Prime Video Grows Nordic Slate With Mystery Crime Series ‘Blind Spot,’ Dystopian Show ‘Vaka’ From ‘The Bridge’ Director (Exclusive)

Prime Video is diving into genre in the Nordics with a new slate of shows, including the Swedish mystery crime series “Blind Spot” starring Ida Engvoll (“Love & Anarchy”) and Pål Sverre Hagen (“Furia”), and Henrik Georgsson (“The Bridge”)’s dystopian thriller “Vaka,” starring Emmy-award nominated Jonas Karlsson and Aliette Opheim.

Based on Anne Holt’s best-selling novel “1222” which revolves around the character of Hanne Wilhelmsen, a sharp and dark-minded police officer. The series, penned by celebrated author Sara Heldt (“Sandhamn Murders”) together with Erik Skjoldberg (“Occupied”), follows Hanne who finds herself sheltered in an isolated mountain hotel after a train crash and starts investigating on mysterious murders even though she’s been temporarily suspended from the police.

“Blind Spot” is co-produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Nordic Drama Queens, in association with Fifth Season which represents the show outside of the Nordic region. Skjoldberg is directing all four episodes of the series.

Klown Writer Goes Undercover With New Danish Comedy
A huge star in his native Denmark and well known around the world for his work on the Klown films and television series, Danish comic Casper Christensen serves as the screenwriter of Nikolaj Peyk's Undercover - a new crime comedy designed to show off the talents of comedienne Linda P. Rikke, allegedly Denmark’s worst police officer, is looking forward to Christmas with roast duck and rice pudding. But on Christmas Eve, she is assigned to her first undercover mission: she must follow petty criminal and crown witness Mick to the island of Funen, before an infamous gangster boss and his minions get their hands on him and the 120,000 euros he has stolen. The involvement of Christensen makes this immediately of interest in these parts...

Scandinavian distributor Scanbox has acquired several new hot Cannes titles: Paolo Virzì’s Like Crazy [pictured] from Bac Films, Mohamed Diab’s Clash from Pyramide, and Ken Loach’s I, Daniel Blake from Wild Bunch.

At Cannes 2016, Scanbox has set a new personal best with its number of titles in the festival – it boasts Scandinavian rights to Woody Allen’s Café Society, Xavier Dolan’s It’s Only The End of the World, Asghar Farhadi’s The Salesman, Nicolas Winding Refn’s The Neon Demon, Matt Ross’ Captain Fantastic and David Mackenzie’s Hell or High Water.

Exclusive: Film about Danish journalist and her Syrian fixer will start shooting in February 2017 in Turkey and Morocco.

Danish writer/director Kasper Barfoed and producer Michel Schonnemann are launching production company The Lot by developing a feature film based on Danish journalist Puk Damsgaard’s bestseller Under A Crying Sun.

The journalistic autobiography is about the relationship between Danish journalist Damsgaard and her local fixer Nour during the start of the Syrian war.

The shoot for the $3m feature is planned for February 2017 in Turkey and Morocco. Casting has started in Denmark and Los Angeles, and the Danish Film Institute is supporting development.

The project marks Barfoed’s sixth feature; he had a huge hit in Denmark in 2015 with football story Summer of ’92 and past credits include The Numbers Station starring John Cusack.
