John Williams at 93: top tracks to celebrate this Disney Legend
Image
When most people think of classical composers, images of people wearing powdered wigs, sitting at harpsicords, or conducting symphonies often are the first that come to mind. Along with the likes of Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, and Mozart, John Williams is practically a living legend.

Williams began his film career by composing for Daddy-o in 1959, but his abilities only blossomed as he went on to compose for directors like Steven Spielberg, Chris Columbus, and George Lucas. With decades of films under his belt, it's hard to narrow down his absolute best. But that doesn't mean we can't try!

"Main Title" from Jaws (1975)

It's one thing if a composer can work with a minimalist score, but it's another if he can make two notes into something unforgettably chilling. The theme from Jaws is pure suspense, and that's all there is to it.

Similar to the screeching strings from Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho, the...

'Indiana Jones' Star Ke Huy Quan Wants Short Round To Return in New Sequel
Image
Ke Huy Quan's Hollywood comeback is nothing short of remarkable. The actor, who starred in The Goonies and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom in his adolescence, quit acting for several decades after struggling to find work, instead becoming a stunt performer and supervisor. But his chance casting in Everything Everywhere All at Once catapulted his career back into the limelight and led to his first Oscar win. Quan has since starred in the McU's Loki, American Born Chinese, and Kung Fu Panda 4, as well as the new action movie, Love Hurts. Looking ahead to the future, Quan has several major movies he's working on, but he also wants to reprise one of his oldest and most controversial roles.

During an interview with Josh Horowitz for the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Ke Huy Quan addressed a potential Indiana Jones revival with his character, Short Round, coming back.

Gamers can’t help but wonder if Todd Howard’s magnum opus, Elder Scrolls 6, will also see a PlayStation port upon its release. While Microsoft and Bethesda haven’t officially revealed anything yet, one of the biggest success stories of Game Pass in 2024 could be a sign of things to come for the future of Elder Scrolls on other platforms.

Game Pass hit coming to PS5 is good news for Elder Scrolls 6

Let’s be honest, no one could’ve ever predicted the success Indiana Jones and the Great Circle would go on to achieve.

Indiana Jones & The Great Circle Proves How Games Can Avoid A Common Nostalgia Trap
Image
Nostalgia can often be a double-edged sword for long-running franchises, but Indiana Jones and the Great Circle provides a perfect example of how it can be wielded effectively. The most recent entry in the Indiana Jones franchise was the subject of much hype and ballyhoo during its three years in development, and now that the finished product is in players' hands, people have been largely pleased with it. The mass appeal of the game is certainly due in no small part to the recognizable name and image of Dr. Jones himself, as well as the classic movies he's associated with.

For millions of people all over the world, the Indiana Jones movies are the pinnacle of the adventure genre, full of moments that left an indelible mark on the fabric of pop culture. Being able to work with such a recognizable license affords many opportunities to The Great Circle, but...

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Director: ‘We wanted to encourage players who walk in the opposite direction’ on Making Open World Games Great Again
Image
With Indiana Jones and the Great Circle just days away from its highly anticipated release, fans are eagerly awaiting their chance to don the iconic fedora and crack that trusty whip. As the Early Access countdown ticks down to mere hours, MachineGames has been sharing some fascinating insights into their approach to bringing Dr. Jones’ world to life.

Please be good. Please be good! | Image Credit: Bethesda Softworks/YouTube

In a recent interview, design director Jens Andersson—who, in a twist worthy of an Indy adventure itself, was originally hired to work on a different Indiana Jones game back in 2009 that never saw the light of day—revealed a refreshing philosophy about exploration and player freedom that might just change how we think about open-world game design.

And let’s just say, it’s not your typical “climb the tower to reveal the map” approach.

How the New ‘Indiana Jones’ Video Game Got Its Star
Image
Todd Howard always wanted to create an Indiana Jones game. In 2009, the prolific director of titles like Fallout 3 came close, pitching an Indiana Jones game to LucasArts, the video game subsidiary arm of Lucasfilm. However, the collaboration didn’t end up happening. At the time, Howard and the developers at Bethesda Game Studios were riding high on the critical and commercial successes of 2002’s The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and 2006’s The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, but even so, Indy remained out of reach for the team.

Now, 15 years after his first attempt,...

“It becomes an interesting gameplay option”: Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Will Have a Feature That Was Once the Crown Jewel of the Hitman Series
Image
As the release of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle draws near, fans of the iconic archaeologist are eagerly anticipating the opportunity to don the fedora and crack the whip. MachineGames, known for their work on the Wolfenstein series, has been tight-lipped about many aspects of the game, but recent revelations have sparked excitement among both Indiana Jones enthusiasts and gaming aficionados alike.

For some fans, the countdown to release has already begun. | Image Credit: MachineGames

According to a new official revelation, it seems that Dr. Jones will be borrowing a page from Agent 47’s playbook. A feature that once defined the Hitman series is making its way into Indy’s arsenal, and it promises to add a new layer of strategy and immersion to his globe-trotting adventures.

Indiana Jones & The Great Circle May Have Already Made A Big Mistake
Image
Gameplay is lacking substance in trailers for Indiana Jones and The Great Circle. The first-person has been under scrutiny by people online, wondering why a third-person view isn't available. Third-person titles have helped create immersion with iconic characters in the past.

Indiana Jones and The Great Circle was one of many big titles that was shown off at the recent Xbox Games Showcase. However, what was shown within the five-minute trailer raises questions about not only the focus of the game but also whether its developer, MachineGames, is trying to hide one of the more divisive elements in the title by focusing on the better elements.

The recent trailer focused on a set of cutscenes that not only outline the games main plot but also dive into one of the key sections, where Indiana Jones and his new ally, Gina, head to the Himalayas. Once there, they find that one...

Image
Actress Phylicia Rashad will end her role as Dean of Howard University’s Chadwick A. Boseman College of Fine Arts following the 2023-24 school year, Howard University President Wayne A. I. Frederick announced in a press release.

The announcement comes two years after Rashad was named dean of the College of Fine Arts. She was praised by the administration for her efforts, but she made no statement as to the reasons for her departure.

Rashad graduated from Howard with a bachelor’s in fine arts and has served as adjunct faculty and guest lecturer at several other institutions, including New York University, Carnegie Mellon University, Suny Purchase, Vassar College and Fordham University.

Rashad got in hot water in 2021 when she tweeted her support for former costar Bill Cosby, whose sexual assault conviction was overturned. She received a reprimand from the school,

Rashad became a household name when she portrayed Claire Huxtable on The Cosby Show,...

Best New Indiana Jones Actors to Replace Harrison Ford
Image
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny has finally arrived in theaters, and it is being marketed as the final adventure for Indiana Jones. It will be Harrison Ford's last time playing the whip-wielding archeologist and will serve as the conclusion to the five films George Lucas originally wanted to make for the character (even though nothing was ever really planned). Being released 42 years after Raiders of the Lost Ark first hit screens, it is truly the end of an era. It is fair to say that Indy is arguably the greatest action hero in the history of cinema. There is not much doubt about that.

While Lucasfilm has emphasized there will be no more Indiana Jones movies and only Harrison Ford is Indiana Jones, it is hard to imagine a studio like Disney will let a franchise as well-known and recognizable as Indiana Jones just retire. In an...

Leaving The Indiana Jones Franchise Behind Was A Tough Choice For Sean Connery
Image
Following the release of the darker and more intense "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom," Director Steven Spielberg and producer George Lucas would take a step back and go back to basics with the third installment in the series. The end result is "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade," a film reminiscent in its tone and sense of adventure to "Raiders of the Lost Ark." One key difference, though, would be that Indy wouldn't be going it alone. Instead, "Last Crusade" featured the introduction of another Dr. Jones, that being Indy's father, Henry, played by the legendary Sean Connery.

Connery's involvement in the franchise would be a full circle moment for Spielberg, as his decision to direct the "Indiana Jones" movies famously stemmed from his desire to make a James Bond film. The resulting chemistry between Ford and Connery as the two Joneses' would make "Last Crusade" an...

Kevin Feige at an event for Thor: The Dark World (2013)
D23 2022 Schedule and Predictions: Marvel, Star Wars, and More!
Kevin Feige at an event for Thor: The Dark World (2013)
This post contains light spoilers for upcoming Disney projects.

It was pretty big news when Disney came back to San Diego Comic-Con after an absence of several years. And, to be sure, the event didn’t disappoint, with MCU boss Kevin Feige revealing the schedule for the franchise’s next two phases. Heroes from a galaxy far, far away also got attention earlier this year at Star Wars Celebration, which included the announcement of a new series from Spider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts and a trailer for the upcoming show Andor.

But Disney isn’t done hyping up their nerd franchises. A three-day event from Sept. 9-11, the D23 Fan Expo exists to drum up excitement for the Mouse House’s latest offerings. While that includes new animated movies and even theme park attractions, the biggest news from D23 will be during the Marvel and Lucasfilm studio showcase at 10 am Pt on Saturday.
