‘Shetland’ Season 10 Gets a Huge Update After Divisive Season 9
Image
Based on the novels by Ann Cleeves, the beloved BBC crime series Shetland may have stumbled in fan opinion following the recent Season 9, but let that take nothing away from what the show has achieved across 12 years to date. Following the crime drama being renewed for two more seasons back in March 2024, all eyes were firmly on Season 9, which saw a new engaging mystery challenge the minds of Di Ruth Calder (Ashley Jensen) and Alison "Tosh" McIntosh (Alison O'Donnell).

However, the response to the ninth season has been mixed, with some declaring it the worst of the bunch. This can be seen via the season's Rotten Tomatoes audience score of 53%, which pales in comparison to the overall series score of 79%. In fact, when compared to the perfect critical rating of 100% handed to Season 4, it's clear that the series might have lost some of its spark. Nevertheless, Shetland still proves popular,...

Shetland Cast & Character Guide: Who Plays Who In The Scottish Crime Drama
Image
Shetland is a gripping Scottish crime drama set in the eponymous Scottish archipelago, known for its darker and more sinister edge. The Shetland cast has seen changes over the years, but the performances continue to impress, with the show remaining a critical darling. The show reinvents the small-town crime genre with each passing year, making it one of the best shows set in Scotland.

Even though the Shetland cast has grown and changed over the course of its near-decade on the air, the featured players never fail to deliver in the gripping Scottish crime drama. Debuting in 2013 on BBC One, Shetland is set on the eponymous Scottish archipelago and follows the men and women of the local police force who investigate crimes that disrupt the sleepy community. Shetland: Ashley Jensen To Replace Douglas Henshall as New Lead Detective
Image
Tosh, Sandy and Billy’s new guvnor has been confirmed by the BBC: Agatha Raisin star Ashley Jensen will head up the Shetland investigatory team as new character Di Ruth Calder in series eight of the Scottish crime drama. Calder is “a native Shetlander who returns to the isles after 20 years working for the Met in London.” She’s a fish out of water back in water then, and will presumably come with her own share of personal complications, grudges and history with the rest of the locals.

Jensen’s casting follows Douglas Henshall’s exit in the series seven finale, after the actor decided to leave the role of Di Jimmy Perez behind. Perez wasn’t – as some had predicted – blown up in an eco-terrorism plot, but allowed to walk away intact with love interest Meg on his arm. The Detective Inspector nobly sacrificed his career to save...
