In Defense of ‘Twilight’
Ever since it became a major pop culture phenomenon, Twilight has earned a heavy dose of criticism. Critic Mark Kermode has defended the series from the cheap dismissal of older, male reviewers too far removed from the series target (though not exclusive) audience but the criticism is perhaps nowhere greater than a feminist community aghast by Bella’s blank slate personality; the idealization of abusive, controlling or manipulative men; and the infusion of certain socially conservative values. This critique is based largely on one major misreading of the story. Twilight isn’t meant to be considered an expression of an ideal.

Many have focused on the poor quality of writing in the series but reading through Twilight, the first novel, one thing stands out; it is a teenage girl’s diary. Though lacking the “Dear Diary” formatting, the novel takes place inside of Bella’s head and subsequently has this...

Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner, and Robert Pattinson in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 (2011)
This Week's Cover: 'Twilight' Exclusive -- Director Bill Condon on the scandal. Plus: Fall movie preview!
Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner, and Robert Pattinson in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 (2011)
It’s been — let’s just say —an eventful couple of weeks for Team Twilight. Bella and Edward may find eternal, immortal bliss in Breaking Dawn — Part 2 (out Nov. 16), but costars and (only recently confirmed) couple Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson are having a much harder time since incriminating photographs of Stewart and her Snow White and the Huntsman director, Rupert Sanders, surfaced late last month. “The fact is, these are actors playing parts, and maybe it’s not such a bad thing that people be reminded of that,” Bill Condon tells EW. “Both of these actors gave heart and soul to the Twilight movies,...

'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1' Review (2011)
I can't judge the Twilight movies the same way I judge other movies any longer. There is just no way I can give them that kind of respect. They are not movies and this, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1, is even less than half of a movie. This first part of the final chapter in the Twilight Saga is an idea for, at most, 30 minutes of a film. Never before have I seen a movie in which the editing process was ignored to the point we get a dramatic closing of a trash can lid as this sleeping exercise lasts almost two hours.

My screening was packed to the gills with buzzing fangirls, but it quickly became apparent why everyone was there, to laugh, giggle and poke fun at what may be the grandest cinema con job in the history of film. Summit Entertainment has managed to...

Breaking Dawn's Nikki Reed Gives Wedding Details
Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner, and Robert Pattinson in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 (2011)
Breaking Dawn’s Nikki Reed shared some details surrounding her upcoming wedding with American Idol finalist and fiance Paul McDonald, while attending the launch of Ubisoft’s Just Dance 3. Reed, who plays the abrasive vampire Rosalie, who eventually softens towards Kristen Stewart’s Bella, has announced that she has picked out her dress for the big day, but unfortunately she’s keeping tight lipped about who designed it. “I haven’t even told Paul yet, he is super traditional, and wants to be surprised, and all of that.” Nikki Reed also told Hollywood Life that although Breaking Dawn’s Bella and Edward may have had “a beautiful wedding, Paul and I are just not Edward...

Chicago – “Limitless” is a fun, clever riff on the timeless tale of a man who wanted the world but didn’t know the price. Blu-Ray Rating: 4.0/5.0

Robert Pattinson V. Taylor Lautner! Who Should Win The MTV Movie Award For Best Male Performance?
Edward may have won the girl, but should R-Patz also win the golden popcorn? Browse our gallery & vote now!

Because the whole Team Edward / Team Jacob feud isn’t big enough in the Twilight saga, MTV is bringing it to the small screen June 5 as Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner go head-to-head for Best Male Performance at the 2011 MTV Movie Awards. So which guy gets your vote: Rob, who plays brooding vampire Edward Cullen, or Taylor, who played the equally-brooding (but way more shirtless) werewolf Jacob Black?

Of course, Rob and Taylor aren’t the Only guys nominated for the big award. Joining them in the fray are Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Pt. 1), Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network), and Zac Efron (Charlie St. Cloud.)

Isle Esme Brings Romance to 'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn'
Bella and Edward may be spending their honeymoon on a secluded tropical island, but, thanks to a new image of posted online, all Twi-hards are invited. Well, sort of.

In what has become somewhat of an unofficial holiday tradition, a snapshot from the "Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn" set was Tweeted to celebrate Valentine's Day. (Images surfaced last Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve as well.)

The image depicts an overcast and foggy Isle Esme, with orange lanterns illuminating a path down the beach toward a small boat — which happens to be the only sign of life.

There's no Bella (sigh). No Edward (double-sigh). Not even a footprint in the sand.

Romantic? Maybe. Moody? Definitely.

The eerie atmosphere may actually prove to be perfect for this romantic getaway, however. It's here that our young newlyweds consummate their love, and Bella's eternal transformation begins.

Though this Isle Esme image has just come to light,...

Olly Murs replaces Jedward at Cawdor Castle concert
Olly Murs will replace Jedward at a Scottish concert later this month.

The X Factor twins pulled out of the event for ‘personal reasons’ but it is thought that Edward may still be suffering with the ankle injury he incurred at T4′s Party On The Beach last month.

Danyl Johnson, Stacey Solomon, Jamie ‘Afro’ Archer and Ruth Lorenzo will still be performing at ‘The Stars from The X-Factor’ concert at Cawdor Castle on August 27 and now 2009 runner up Olly will use it to help promote his new single ‘Please Don’t Let Me Go’ – released on August 29.

Les Kidger from promoters Ck Events said: “We are delighted to have secured Olly for Friday’s show. Whilst it is obviously disappointing to lose Jedward at this late stage we were determined to give the fans an even better experience.

“Olly was the act we wanted to lead the original line-up...

I will definitely be writing more skin. Do you think you can handle a sexy, skin-baring...

Brian Friedman: ‘John and Edward Grimes aren’t clever enough to be the new Ant and Dec’
X Factor’s creative director Brian Friedman has admitted that John and Edward may enjoy more success than any of the other X Factor contestants this year. However he added that there will be a limit to their fame, because of their lack of intelligence.

Brian told The Mirror:

“John and Edward will easily be the most successful. I wanted them to stay in every week, even if it meant a talented singer went out.”

He added: “They won’t ever be like Ant and Dec because they’re not clever enough.”

Twilight: Eclipse to sparkle in IMAX
If there are two current trends in movies, it’s 3D and IMAX. And while that glint and glimmer from Edward may look downright neat in 3D, that is not the trend the next installment of the Twilight series is following. Instead, Eclipse is set to be in IMAX as it is released on June 30th, 2010.
