From Season 4 Has A Worsening Problem To Fix With One Of The Show’s Best Original Characters
Image
Warning: There are spoilers ahead for From season 3.

From season 4 needs to give a larger role to one of the series' original characters. Since season 1, From's cast of characters has been extensive. Boyd Stevens (Harold Perrineau) is arguably the show's most prominent character, but From has always been and continues to be an ensemble series. The cast only expanded further in season 2 when a bus became trapped in the Town, and several of its passengers became important characters, including Elgin (Nathan D. Simmons), Marielle (Kaelen Ohm), Randall (A.J. Simmons), and Tillie (Deborah Grover).

From season 3, episode 1 featured a major addition to the cast with the unexpected introduction of Victor's father, Henry Kavanaugh (Robert Joy), and Acosta (Samantha Brown) also became an important character following her debut later in season 3. Between the deaths of Tillie, Tian-Chen Liu (Elizabeth Moy), and especially with Jim Matthews in From season 3's ending, the ensemble is shrinking slightly.

Why Randall Tried To Use The Defibrillator On Himself In From’s Season 3 Finale
Image
Warning: There are spoilers ahead for From season 3, episode 10, "Revelations: Chapter Two."

From season 3 has been torturous for Randall (A.J. Simmons), which culminates in using a defibrillator on himself in the finale. Even though Boyd Stevens (Harold Perrineau) smashed the music box during From season 2's ending, Randall continued to see and hear cicadas in season 3. Life in the Town became even worse for Randall in From season 3, episode 4, when Boyd leaves him to the monsters. The monsters let Randall live, but only after brutally mauling him.

After being left for dead, having a horrific gash across his face, and continuing to experience cicada hallucinations, Randall continues to struggle throughout the rest of the season. Kristi (Chloe Van Landschoot) and Marielle (Kaelen Ohm) try to help Randall feel less alone by letting him move into the medical clinic instead of having to live on the bus. Julie Matthews (Hannah Cheramy) also becomes friendly with Randall.

What Julie Being A Story Walker Means For From Season 4
Image
Warning: There are spoilers ahead for From season 3, episode 10, "Revelations: Chapter Two."

The From season 3 finale reveals that Julie Matthews (Hannah Cheramy) is a "story walker," which has major implications for season 4. Julie's story took an unexpected turn in From season 3, episode 8 when she returned to the dungeon ruins and began to time travel. She first saw herself, Randall (A.J. Simmons), and Marielle (Kaelen Ohm) being tormented by the Music Box Monster during From season 2's ending. She then traveled back to the season 2 premiere as it became clear that Julie was always the one who threw the rope to Boyd Stevens (Harold Perrineau).

Before Julie was pulled out of the ruins, she also traveled back to the night her mother, Tabitha Matthews (Catalina Sandino Moreno), and Victor Kavanaugh (Scott McCord) escaped the tunnels where From's monsters reside when it is daytime. The last thing Julie heard before returning to...

"I Didn't See This Coming": From Star Reacts To Massive Season 3 Finale Twist
Image
Warning: Major Spoilers ahead for the From season 3 finale! From star David Alpay, who portrays Jade, has reacted to the show's massive season 3 finale twist, explaining his thoughts on a major question that's finally been answered. During the end of From season 3, Jade, Tabitha (Catalina Sandino Moreno) and Jim (Eion Bailey) discover the numbers in the Bottle Tree are actually musical notes. The former software developer plays them on Victor's (Scott McCord) violin, causing the children who say "Anghkooey" to appear. Jade realizes the word means "remember," and that he and Tabitha are Christopher (Thom Payne) and Miranda (Sarah Booth) reincarnated.

Speaking with Fangirlish, Alpay explained he had no idea From season 3 would feature the twist that Jade is Christopher reincarnated. Boasting his ability to see where most TV show stories are going, he praised creator Jeff Griffin and showrunner Josh Pinker for crafting an unpredictable storyline. He also breaks...

‘From’ Season 3 Finale Ending Explained: Smiley Is Back
Image
“From” Season 3 ended just as wildly as the entire show is. A major character died, Tabitha (Catalina Sandino Moreno) and Jade (David Alplay) share a past and Sara finally makes Elgin see straight …. You’ll get the joke later.

Episode 10: “Revelations: Chapter Two” kicks off with Fatima (Pegah Ghafoori) having strong contractions, showing that the birth of what’s growing inside her is near. While this is going on, Tabitha explains that Victor’s mother, Miranda (Sarah Boothe), was previously murdered by Smiley, and Ellis (Corteon Moor) tells Boyd (Harold Perrineau) that he thinks Elgin (Nathan D. Simmons) has something to do with Fatima’s disappearance. Oh, and the cicadas’ chirps pushed Randall (A.J. Simmons) to the point that he tried to shock himself in the head with a defibrillator.

There’s a lot going on. Here’s your break down of everything that happened in the “From” Season 3 finale.

“From has been a sensation for MGM+, capturing the attention of millions of viewers and helping us to shine a bright light on our MGM+ brand,” said Michael Wright, head of MGM+. “Our talented show creators and cast have brilliantly and carefully crafted this wonderful show, and we look forward to providing the answers the From audience so enthusiastically craves in season 4!”

From has been a hit out of the gate for MGM+. The sci-fi drama is the most viewed series in the history of the premium network, and has a 96 percent Rotten Tomatoes score.

“We are thrilled by the support of our fans and our partners at MGM+ and are so excited to share the next chapter of our story with our FROMily. By the end of season 3, our characters will begin to understand why they are trapped in From Town… but will understanding help them to escape? And if so, how?” said Pinkner.

Perrineau plays Boyd Stevens, the sheriff whose Draconian rules have held the fragile town together, even as he searches for a way to escape this seemingly inescapable nightmare.

“With the culmination of Season Three we have, in many ways, reached the end of the beginning. In Season Four, a new journey begins. The question is whether it will lead our characters home, or deeper into this unrelenting nightmare,” said Griffin. “We are so grateful to our partners at MGM+ to be able to continue this tale and beyond excited to share the news with our amazing FROMily.”

Added Bender: “Congratulations and gratitude to Michael Wright and MGM+ for the incredible support. And to our brilliant family of actors and our gifted team in Nova Scotia. We’re looking forward to telling more of the tale.”

From is an Amazon MGM Studios production. Jeff Pinkner, John Griffin and Jack Bender serve as executive producers alongside Perrineau, Josh Appelbaum, André Nemec and Scott Rosenberg from Midnight Radio, Anthony and Joe Russo and Mike Larocca from Agbo, and Lindsay Dunn. Midnight Radio’s Adrienne Erickson serves as co-executive producer. The series is distributed internationally by Paramount Global Content Distribution.

Jim Has Become the Worst Character in 'From' Season 3
Image
Editor's Note: The following contains spoilers for From Season 3.Jim Matthews (Eion Bailey) had his issues and problems during Season 2 of From. Unfortunately, it appears they are growing worse in the show's current season. The patriarch of the Matthews family has gradually become the worst, most frustrating character among the survivors of the Town. Earlier, Randall Kirkland (A.J. Simmons) held the crown, but more recently, Randall is undergoing a redemptive arc in Season 3. Meanwhile, Jim has generally showcased mainly negative qualities for almost the entirety of the third season. Jims presence merely serves as a constant detractor from everyone else, and he fails to support and help his own family. It's time to discuss how Jim Matthews is reaching a tipping point in From Season 3.

From Season 3 Officially Repeats The Lost Twist From 17 Years Ago That We All Should Have Seen Coming
Image
Warning: There are spoilers ahead for From season 3, episode 8, "Thresholds."From is providing its own take on a major twist from Lost. The two series already share a great deal in common between the creative talent involved and the stories themselves. Harold Perrineau, who leads From's cast of characters as Boyd Stevens, played Lost's Oceanic 815 survivor Michael Dawson. Jack Bender, who is a From executive producer and a director of numerous episodes, was also an executive producer and frequent director for Lost, including his direction of the acclaimed "Walkabout," "Through the Looking Glass," and "The Constant" episodes.

From and Lost's stories also contain many literal and thematic parallels. Both From and Lost revolve around an ensemble cast of characters who are stranded and looking to escape a mysterious, isolated location that is revealed to be increasingly supernatural. A mystery box storytelling approach is used in which many overarching and complex mysteries are introduced,...

From Finally Solves Boyd's Rope Mystery From The Season 2 Premiere, Almost 2 Years Later
Image
Warning: There are spoilers ahead for From season 3, episode 8, "Thresholds."

Nearly two years after being introduced, From has answered a major Boyd Stevens (Harold Perrineau) mystery. After climbing through one of From's faraway trees, Boyd found himself trapped at the bottom of a well, and only found a way out when a rope was thrown down to him during the season 2 premiere. When Boyd used the rope to climb up, the only person up there was a man named Martin (Robert Verlaque), who was chained to the wall. The problem with this is that if Martin was chained to the wall, he could not have thrown the rope down to Boyd.

Who threw the rope became another mystery, and with the threat of the Music Box Monster being unleashed, the mystery faded into the background, as From's characters had more important and deadly matters on their hands. Since Boyd smashed...

It Looks Like From Season 3 Just Officially Debunked A Popular Character Theory After 17 Episodes
Image
Warning: There are spoilers ahead for From season 3, episode 8, "These Fragile Lives."

From season 3, episode 7, "These Fragile Lives" debunked the popular theory that Tillie (Deborah Grover) is a secretly nefarious character. Tillie first joined From's cast of characters at the beginning of season 2. Along with Randall (A.J. Simmons), Marielle (Kaelen Ohm), and Elgin (Nathan D. Simmons), Tillie was among the many bus passengers who found themselves trapped in the Town. She was a kindly, free-spirited woman who adapted to her new circumstances better than many of her peers did.

It was also revealed that prior to finding herself in the Town, Tillie received a terminal cancer diagnosis. Despite this sympathetic backstory and her compassionate nature, many theories formed about Tillie being suspicious in From. These theories ranged from her secretly being one of the monsters to being a spy for them, especially as Tillie became increasingly connected to the supernatural...

Why Julie & Randall Return To The Dungeon In From Season 3 Episode 7 & What Their "Feelings" Mean
Image
Warning: There are spoilers ahead for From season 3, episode 7, "These Fragile Lives."

From season 3, episode 7, "These Fragile Lives" largely focuses on Julie Matthews (Hannah Cheramy) and Randall (A.J. Simmons) as they return to an ominous location. Julie and Randall were previously possessed by the Music Box Monster, causing them to experience horrific visions that nearly killed them. They were only freed from this when Boyd Stevens (Harold Perrineau) smashed the music box during From's season 2 ending.

This victory may not be as permanent as it seemed to be, as Julie revealed to Elgin (Nathan D. Simmons) in From season 3, episode 5 that she still hears screaming in her head sometimes and Randall has continued to see visions of cicadas. As Randall moves into the clinic and Julie prepares to stay there for the night, the two characters cross paths again. When Julie reveals that she never learned to drive, Randall takes...

From Has Now Completely Ignored A Huge Part Of Boyd's Original Story For 2 Seasons
Image
From's Boyd Stevens (Harold Perrineau) experiencing Parkinson's disease symptoms was a significant part of his season 1 story, but it has been overlooked in From seasons 2 and 3. As defined by the World Health Organization, "Parkinson's disease is a brain condition that causes problems with movement, mental health, sleep, pain and other health issues." Common Parkinson's disease symptoms include involuntary movements and tremors known as dyskinesias. The severity of symptoms varies between individuals, but cognitive impairment can also occur.

Back to the Future actor Michael J. Fox is one of the most well-known individuals who have Parkinson's disease, with his diagnosis being publicly shared in 1991. He went on to create the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, which is a non-profit organization that funds scientific research to find a cure. There are medicines that can help control symptoms, but a cure has yet to be discovered. As From's cast of characters face new challenges,...

Look for the 10-episode third season to arrive this Fall on MGM+.

If the below clip is any indication, season 3 is going to be absolutely insane and suspenseful for its characters.

The series tells “of a nightmarish town that traps all those who enter. As the unwilling residents fight to keep a sense of normalcy and search for a way out, they must also survive the threats of the surrounding forest – including the terrifying creatures that come out when the sun goes down. Season Two explores just how far the residents of this nightmarish place are willing to go to find answers, even as chilling new threats to their safety – and their sanity – begin to emerge.”

The series stars Harold Perrineau (Lost) and...

Reacher Becoming A Slasher Villain Shows His Biggest Live-Action Change In Season 2
Image
Warning: Major spoilers for Reacher season 2 episode "New York's Finest" below!

Reacher season 2 has turned the main character into a slasher, which includes drowning a hitman in wet cement. The lack of human contact and the murder of his friends by New Age have made Reacher even less civilized and quicker to anger in this season. The latest episode, "New York's Finest," showcases Reacher as a full-on slasher, luring his enemies into a trap before picking them off one by one.

Reacher just completed his transformation into a slasher villain with season 2's latest episode "New York's Finest." Jack Reacher might be the closest a human being can be to The Incredible Hulk's proportions, but that doesn't mean he goes looking for fights either. On the contrary, Reacher avoids fights or gun battles as much as possible, and when he gets involved in one, he's looking to end them quickly.

A.J. Simmons
From's A.J. Simmons on Randall's Clashes With Donna & Joining Series in Season 2
A.J. Simmons
When From Season 2 began, the town and the audience were thrown for a loop when a bus full of people entered the picture.

One of those bus goers was the easily agitated Randall, who quickly made an enemy out of Donna and was banished to the bus after he failed to play nice with the others at Colony House.

It's been a rough go for Randall since From Season 2 Episode 1, and we have to wonder how much worse things will get for him and his enemy (frenemy?) Donna, who found herself in a horrifying situation in the closing seconds of From Season 2 Episode 8.

We got to speak with Randall's portrayer, the wonderful and affable A.J. Simmons, who explained Randall's thought process in taking Donna, why the two clashed so much, and why Randall struggled to fall in line when he arrived in town.

Everyone will be talking about that final moment,...

1 Reacher Fight Proves He's Not Invincible After All
Image
One brutal fight from Reacher proved the titular character isn't invulnerable after all. The creation of author Lee Child, Jack Reacher is a hulking avenger who roams America righting various wrongs. In essence, he's Sherlock Holmes with the body of Dolph Lundgren, a combination that made finding the right actor for the 2012 movie adaptation a long process. The eventual casting of Tom Cruise caused howls of derision from longtime readers, and it's a call that remains controversial. Amazon's Reacher stayed true to the source by casting Alan Ritchson, who was a much better fit for Child's literary creation.

While having a tall, muscle-bound hero who wins every bout might sound dull to some, part of the enjoyment of the Reacher books and its TV counterpart is that power fantasy. He confronts bullies, criminals and killers alike and - almost always - wins every fight. In one novel, Reacher even bearhugs a villain to death.
