David Krumholtz, Caleb Alexander Smith’s ‘Forelock’ Lands at Mise En Scene for Worldwide Sales (Exclusive)
Image
The Mise En Scene Company has boarded worldwide sales on “Forelock,” a dark comedy toplined by David Krumholtz and Caleb Alexander Smith, with Smith making his solo directorial debut on the project.

Smith wrote and helmed the Los Angeles-set film, in which he stars as a wannabe fitness trainer whose resemblance to a major movie star attracts the attention of Krumholtz’s Hollywood Boulevard con artist character. The duo’s partnership spirals into criminal territory in what’s being billed as a satirical take on Hollywood dreams gone wrong.

For Krumholtz, the project represents his first starring vehicle following his acclaimed supporting turn in Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer.” The versatile actor has built a reputation through collaborations with auteur filmmakers including the Coen Brothers and Seth Rogen, most recently earning praise for Rogen’s Emmy-nominated Apple TV+ series “The Studio.”

The actor’s upcoming slate includes a role as Zor-El in DC Studios’ 2026 tentpole “Supergirl,...

Mandalorian: Over 2 years later, these 10 things still bother me about Season 3
Image
The Mandalorian Season 3 was hotly anticipated by fans of the show's first two seasons, and after a long wait of over two years, the series premiered to mixed reviews. Mando Season 3 is undoubtedly the show's most divisive season, with many fans unhappy with the creative decisions taken by Jon Favreau, Rick Famuyiwa, and Dave Filoni. After all this time, I'm one of those people who still have some gripes about the season too.

Here are 10 things that still bother me about Season 3 of The Mandalorian.

1. The lack of a Satine Kryze mention

As a massive fan of The Clone Wars, the lack of a Duchess Satine Kryze mention still bothers me. During the first few episodes of the season, I thought Favreau was saving a Satine namedrop for later, but I was proven wrong. The season ended without a single Satine Kryze namedrop, and I still fail to see why.

The Mandalorian Pulled a Bait-and-Switch on Star Wars Fans (& There's Only 1 Way to Fix It)
Image
Quick LinksThe Mandalorian Seasons 1 and 2 Revolved Around GroguThe Book of Boba Fett Marked A Decided Split From the Original DirectionFocus Needs To Shift Back To The Mandalorian's Established Mystery

While Star Wars is still a beloved series by many, it’s also safe to acknowledge it has gone far off the rails for others. One show that many fans claim to be a victim of this loss of direction is the first Disney+ Star Wars offering, The Mandalorian. While it's always interesting to visit a galaxy far, far away and see the corners of the Star Wars world that otherwise wouldn't have been explored, there is certainly some truth to the belief that The Mandalorian has strayed from its initial direction.

Early episodes of The Mandalorian teased a much larger importance for "the child," Grogu, who seems to have been entirely abandoned at this point. Mysteries that were set...

'Castlevania: Nocturne' Is Already Hinting at One of the Franchise's Most Problematic Ships
Image
Editor's note: The below contains spoilers for Castlevania: Nocturne Season 2 and the Castlevania games. If you watch any supernaturally themed series for long enough, the betting chances are strong that a romantic subplot will develop between a mortal human character and an immortal creature. In most cases, the scenario's bittersweet drama — love prevailing despite one party vastly outliving the other — is too delicious to deny, especially since themes like loneliness and isolation are as eternal as the vampire's staying power. The entire premise of Netflix's Castlevania franchise revolves around the tragic love story between Vlad Dracula (Graham McTavish) and his human wife, Lisa (Emily Swallow), and other vampire-human dalliances are peppered throughout its follow-up series, Castlevania: Nocturne.

The Best Action TV Shows Ever, Ranked
Image
Action shows have been one of the most popular sources of entertainment for decades. Action TV series have been produced on a regular basis — some focusing on long-term, serialized stories of heroes while others have taken a shorter approach more suitable for a binging session. All things considered, however, the genre is almost as popular on TV as it is in the movies.

The action genre has produced incredibly memorable shows that can hold their own with blockbuster counterparts like Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible franchise. The genre has also proven to be incredibly versatile and has experimented with a range of formats, including real-time seasons, anthologies, and merging with other genres. All of these have combined to create brilliant shows that have thriving fandoms years if not decades later.

Updated on January 18, 2024, by Ajay Aravind: The oldest action TV shows were largely Westerns and police procedurals, but the recent...

"That's A Good Question": The Mandalorian Stars Address Season 4, Revealing Just How Secretive Lucasfilm Really Is
Image
Katee Sackhoff and Emily Swallow, who play Bo-Katan Kryze and the Armorer respectively in The Mandalorian, have addressed questions about season 4 of the Star Wars TV show in reference to Lucasfilm's intense secrecy. Swallow has been a part of The Mandalorian ever since season 1, and with Sackhoff officially debuting as Bo-Katan in season 2, both actors have long since been a part of The Mandalorian's cast. As such, they have become quite familiar with both the secrecy surrounding Star Wars projects and the questions that they're often asked about them - something they have since reflected on.

On Sackhoff's podcast, The Sackhoff Show, Swallow discussing her audition experience for The Mandalorian inspires a conversation about the overall secrecy that has always been attached to The Mandalorian. Sackhoff begins by saying that she often has to tell people, "I can't tell you," but that "oftentimes, I don't know." Sackhoff continues,...

'I Didn't Have to Audition': Ming-Na Wen Reveals How She Joined The Mandalorian as Fennec Shand

Personal and Pennsylvania connections helped Ming-Na Wen achieve a lifelong fangirl dream with The Mandalorian.

Appearing on co-star Katee Sackhoff's podcast, Wen revealed how she won the part of bounty hunter Fennec Shand and, despite initial plans to kill her character off, persuaded Dave Filoni to keep her in the Star Wars universe. "Him and Jon Favreau, they wrote this character and you know, again, it's one of those... I want to manifest winning lotto because somehow, I've been wanting to be in Star Wars for four decades," she said. It was through her The Joy Luck Club co-star Tamlyn Tomita that Wen met Mandalorian episode director Deborah Chow, revealing "we were talking and you know, I love Deborah so much, and she's like 'You know what? I'm going to mention you to Jon and Dave.' And she did and then I'm sure at the same time my...

10 Quirkiest Male Anime Love Interests, Ranked
Image
Not all anime love interests are dramatic tsunderes or stoic knights in shining armor. Sometimes a male character's unique sense of humor sets him apart to his love interest and to the audience. These characters are creative individuals with eccentric ways of thinking and conducting themselves.

Sometimes, on paper, a character seems like a terrible love interest, but there's something about them and the way they're written that makes them special. Conventional beauty and charm can be nice in a well-written character, but the more eccentric and goofy characters are truly engaging. Quirky love interests go against the grain, they are flawed, and that's what makes them refreshing and endearing.

7 Disney+ shows that definitely won't be back in 2025
Image
As we look ahead to the new year, Disney+ is gearing up to release exciting new content for its global audience. We're talking about shows such as Goosebumps: The Vanishing, Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2, Ironheart, Daredevil: Born Again and Andor season 2. However, for various reasons, there are some Disney+ shows that won't be returning with additional installments in the new year.

It could be because they were billed as miniseries, meaning that they were designed to conclude after only one season, which wrapped up this year. Another reason for them not returning could be that they won't be finished with the filmmaking process in time to make a 2025 release. There are also some Disney+ shows that won't be back next year because they ended or were canceled this year. Whatever the reason for them not returning, we're definitely going to miss them!

The character, simply known as Swordsman (Aleks Le), is dropped from a tube and is greeted by a yellow floating orb named Puck (Emily Swallow) who says, “You must be hungry.” The warrior has one sole purpose: to eat or be eaten. The basic ground rules from the classic video game are prevalent—our main character is stuck in a vast maze on the run from ghosts and creatures, and you eat to progress and hopefully escape. Except in this interpretation, Pac-Man is set in a dystopian hellscape, fighting Lovecraftian monsters, brutally devouring them.

Image
Your browser does not support the video tag.

Tim Miller and Dave Wilson have brought their video game expertise and experience to Secret Level. While most audiences today know Miller for directing Deadpool (2016), the filmmaker's first couple of decades in the entertainment industry existed almost exclusively in the world of video games. Miller co-founded Blur Studio, a visual effects production company that developed cinematic trailers for hot gaming franchises like Batman: Arkham and Halo. Wilson has been working with Miller under the Blur Studio banner for over 20 years, having served as a cinematic director on the likes of BioShock Infinite and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II.

Secret Level serves as a cinematic love letter to the various video game franchises that Miller and Wilson have worked on or admired as fans. Comprised of 15 anthology episodes, the show offers original takes on a large range of iconic titles, including a...

Every Supernatural Season Finale, Ranked
Image
Supernatural chronicles the adventures of brothers Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) Winchester as they roam the United States protecting people from things that go bump in the night. Throughout the show's fifteen seasons, the hunters clash with vampires, ghouls, and sometimes even God Himself. Some of their most memorable and consequential battles take place during the shows' season finales.

A truly amazing finale weaves a season's worth of plot threads into a gripping and emotionally relevant hour of television while also throwing open the door to the next stage of the story. Pulling off such a feat is no easy task, but Supernatural manages, sometimes more successfully than others.

‘Secret Level’ Review: An IP Branding Exercise
Image
The aims of the animated anthology Secret Level, whose 15 shorts are based on video and tabletop games, are clear enough: As production company Blur Studio puts it on their website, “Secret Level is our love letter to gaming.” But despite the tangible earnestness of that claim, the series fails to shake off the cynicism of its commercial function and blinkered politics. Beneath flashes of beauty and fits of inspiration lies an elaborate branding exercise.

Secret Level features a handful of shorts that conjure impressive moods. The bleak industrial landscapes in “Armored Core: Asset Management” all but subsume the episode’s protagonist (Keanu Reeves)—and the formidable mech he pilots—conveying the extent of his alienation and the stakes of his mission; the economical “Warhammer 40,000: And They Shall Know No Fear” spares us unnecessary dialogue, setting its space marines loose with sweltering kineticism; and the martial arts revenge tale of...

Mandalorian: 5 characters Din Djarin should interact with without his helmet
Image
Gladiator II just hit theaters and everyone has been talking about Pedro Pascal's performance as a Roman General in the movie. With The Mandalorian and Grogu scheduled to be released in 2026, fans are anxious to have Pedro back in the Mando suit with the hope that Pascal will get some memorable scenes to enact that showcase his character's growth and development.

In Season 1 of The Mandalorian, we saw a helmetless Din Djarin interact with Ig-11, as he was determined not to show his face to a living thing. In Season 2, he had to reveal his face to Migs Mayfeld and a room full of Imperial Officers. All the officers ended up getting blown up with the Imperial facility on Morak, and in the season finale, Din revealed his face in front of Grogu. In that scene, he briefly interacts with Grogu and Luke Skywalker, but after Season 2, he has...

The Mandalorian: 5 game-changing uses of good storytelling
Image
Five years ago, many Star Wars fans signed up for Disney+ with something specific in mind. A major selling point was the fact that a new series was coming out that featured someone like fan favorite Boba Fett. Whatever fans thought of the first episode, everything was changed by the sight of wrinkles on a green scalp and outsized ears.

Here are 5 highlights of genius storytelling beats in The Mandalorian.

1. The Mythosaur

In the Season 3 episode "The Mines of Mandalore," Din Djarin and Bo-Katan Kryze make a journey to the underworld of Mandalore. For Din, this is a redemption arc and a ritual returning since he grew up on Mandalore's moon, Concordia. He is journeying to the heart of his society while also witnessing the horrific devastation of Mandalore itself. There is so much that is destroyed and desecrated that compassion passes between the two warriors who have often been at odds with each other.
