Sailor Moon: 15 Most Questionable Storylines, Ranked
Image
For more than three decades, the Sailor Moonfranchise has captivated audiences with its stellar cast of Pretty Guardians and their spectacularly bright, shining adventures. In that time, fans watched as the Sailor Scouts fought against the forces of Evil on Earth, among the stars and even across time itself on more than one occasion.

Unsurprisingly, this has led to more than a few Sailor Moon storylines that haven't aged particularly well, not to mention those that were questionable from the very start. Several of the franchise's most indelible tales are prime examples of ideas they could have executed better with a little more forethought. Whether it be unsettling relationships, uncharacteristically cruel heroes or unexpected dinosaur friends, some Sailor Moon stories simply don't stand up to the rest of the franchise, even at its blandest.

Updated on March 19th, 2025, by Chelsea Steele: As one of anime's most iconic franchises, Sailor Moon...

“Frankenstein” – The Failed TV Movie from Dean Koontz and Producer Martin Scorsese [TV Terrors]
Image
For this month’s installment of “TV Terrors” we revisit USA Network’s “Frankenstein,” which was produced by Lions Gate Films and originally aired on October 10, 2004.

After “The X-Files” (originally) came to an end, other genre properties popped up in an effort to fill the hole it left behind. One of them was the USA Network’s “Frankenstein.”

This TV movie wasn’t so much about Frankenstein as it was an attempt at a murky cop procedural that so happens to involve undead monsters and mutants lurking in Louisiana.

From executive producer Martin Scorsese, “Frankenstein” originally aired as a means of setting the stage for an elaborate horror thriller with a monster-of-the-week approach, following two cynical detectives on the hunt for the mythical mad doctor.

Engineered by famed author Dean Koontz, the movie was a twist on the Mary Shelly story for a more contemporary setting that, at the very least,...

Goku Vs. Kratos – Who's Stronger?
Image
Dragon Ball's Goku and God of War's Kratos couldn’t seem like two more different characters. However, one thing connects them between the gaming and anime fandoms: power. Both Kratos and Goku are two of the strongest protagonists in popular fiction, and that being the case, it was only a matter of time before they fought it out to test the limits of one another’s strength.

However, unlike many battles that both of these warriors get into, a match between Goku and Kratos doesn’t have a clear victor at the outset. Both of these characters have matched, and even surpassed, the strength of the gods in their respect universes, so perhaps there's no better match up for each of them than another warrior that has dared to test the limits of the gods.

15 References To Ancient Greek Mythology In Sailor Moon
Image
Sailor Moon took the world by storm for several reasons, but one factor was how the setting incorporated myths from various cultures. Characters, settings, and storylines in both the manga and anime borrow from Roman, Japanese, and Greek legends. Some of these are more obvious, featured in the main storylines, while others are more obscure, hidden in the names and plotlines of characters that make up the detailed background and lore.

Sailor Moon's main storyline and protagonist are based largely on Greek myths. There are other callbacks to ancient Greek culture in the form of architecture and language, some of which are intertwined with Roman legends. It's easy to get some of the Greek and Roman references in Sailor Moon confused, as some are repetitive or call back to niche trivia that only the real Moonies can remember.
