Spanish Mart-Meet Iberseries & Platino Industria Looks to Europe, Aims to Boost Spanish-Language International Distribution

Set to deliver a masterclass this Wednesday at Brazil’s mega creativity event Rio2C, Iberseries & Platino Industria co-director Samuel Castro has doubled down on the major new strategic directions this annual conference, forum and market is taking in 2025: Europe and international distribution.

“We remain firmly committed to strengthening cultural identity, boosting commercial exchange, and showcasing Ibero-American talent to the world,” Castro said of the Madrid event, whose fifth edition runs Sept. 30-Oct. 3.

As markets contract, however, for non-English language films and series, Iberseries & Platino Industry is expanding its reach. “The positioning of Iberseries & Platino Industria as a bridge between Latin America and the United States, with a special focus on the Hispanic market, and now with a clear outlook toward Europe, marks a pivotal moment to expand our reach by strengthening the international sale of Spanish-language content,” Castro added.

Muv Capital, Retrato Filmes Set Trailblazing Partnership for Distribution in Brazil, Latin America (Exclusive)

Private equity fund Muv Capital is allying with Brazilian distribution company Retrato Filmes to co-invest in its distribution slate of projects, including acquisition of buzzy titles made for Brazil and Latin America at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.

São Paulo-based, Muv Capital is the entertainment arm of Latin America’s leading alternative asset management company, Hurst Capital.

Muv Capital’s initial investments have been made in the music industry and fine arts. Its alliance with Retrato is its first audiovisual investment in Brazil and first solo project. It comes after Laura Rossi was appointed in November as Muv’s head of investments in audiovisual. A specialist in financing, rights management and positioning projects in the market, Rossi previously served as a former head of international at Gullane, one of Brazil’s biggest independent film-tv production houses.

Philomena, 12 Years A Slave, Gravity, Star Trek Into Darkness Among Scores In Contention For Oscar
One hundred fourteen scores from eligible feature-length motion pictures released in 2013 will be vying for nominations in the Original Score category for the 86th Oscars®, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced today.

A Reminder List of works submitted in the Original Score category will be made available with a nominations ballot to all members of the Music Branch, who shall vote in the order of their preference for not more than five achievements. The five achievements receiving the highest number of votes will become the nominations for final voting for the award.

Nomination voting in all Oscar categories begins Friday, December 27 and ends Wednesday, January 8.

The eligible scores along with their composers are listed below, in alphabetical order by film title:

Academy names 114 scores for Oscars

Senior executives at the Academy announced on Dec 12 that 114 scores have been submitted for the original score Oscar category.Scroll down for full list

A reminder list of works submitted will be made available with a nominations ballot to all members of the music branch, who will vote in the order of their preference for up to five scores.

Those five that receive the highest number of votes will be announced as nominees on January 16 2014.

According to the rules, to be eligible the original score must be a “substantial body of music that serves as original dramatic underscoring, and must be written specifically for the motion picture by the submitting composer.

Scores diluted by the use of tracked themes or other preexisting music, diminished in impact by the predominant use of songs, or assembled from the music of more than one composer shall not be eligible.”
