Ever since its launch in 1996, Fox News has enjoyed a unique history of minting top talk personalities, ranging from Sean Hannity to Megyn Kelly to Greg Gutfeld. Now, the Fox Corp. unit is going to bring an outside entity into its empire.

Fox News Channel wants viewers to think of its hosts and anchors as the type of people you might see while taking in a football game, eating at the local diner, or even on board a military transport.
A new Fox News promo uses digital technology to insert Sean Hannity in a neighborhood eatery; Bill Hemmer and Dana Perino in front of what looks like a field of wheat; Jesse Watters and Laura Ingraham at a football game; and Harris Faulkner on board what appears to be a Navy ship. The hosts talk about a new era “where common sense….” says Martha MacCallum, holding forth at a shopping center, “….meets common ground,” adds Bret Baier, her frequent co-anchor.

Dana Perino has some advice. And so does many of her friends and colleagues.
The co-host of America’s Newsroom and The Five is publishing a new book this week, I Wish Someone Had Told Me: The Best Advice For Building A Great Career And A Meaningful Life, giving her own advice on work and life, and turning to people she knows to share their perspectives as well. The title will be Perino’s fourth book, and her first for Fox News Books, the imprint that the company says has now sold over three million copies.
“If [readers] take anything away from it, it is that being curious is a great quality and a great way to live your life, because the time is short and it goes really fast,” Perino says, speaking with The Hollywood Reporter at Fox News headquarters earlier this month.

According to the latest reports, Fox News host Dana Perino thinks President-elect Trump might be nominating Rfk Jr. for the wrong role.
Perino says that if Rfk Jr. wants to have an impact on food regulations and policy, he belongs at the US Department of Agriculture not Health and Human Services. That certainly makes sense, doesn’t it?
Of course, it goes without saying that the internet certainly has had a lot to say about the matter.

However, Watters said he doesn’t understand the fascination. “I took a poll of my staff for females today and they said he was average,” Watters shared, per Mediaite. “But what’s attractive about him is the vigilantism, and Jeanine [Pirro] touched on it, I touched on it, women like the bad boy.” He continued,...

Election Day is here, and the major news networks are prepared for a long night — and potentially a long week.
With over 50 million people early voting in the 2024 Presidential Election, Tuesday night will offer plenty of results to thumb through even if an ultimate winner isn’t called until later in the week, and most of the news networks will kick off their election night coverage at 6 p.m. Et, with CNN even starting at 12 a.m. Et while NBC News begins at 5 p.m. Et.
MSNBC’s Steve Kornacki will return to the Big Board — and will even be livestreamed on Peacock and other social platforms — while Fox News will see Bill Hemmer steering the “Bill”-board.
Most networks have scheduled eight hours of election night programming from 6 p.m. Et to 2 a.m. Et, with a result for the presidential showdown between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump not expected immediately.

Not many people who work at Fox News Channel get to push back at Sean Hannity. Lawrence Jones is one of them.
When Jones was just getting started at the Fox Corp.-backed conservative-leaning news outlet, Hannity took him under his wing, and offered advice, even the chance to start appearing on his well-watched primetime program. At first, “I told him no,” Jones recalls, “I’m more libertarian. You’re more conservative. I just want to be able to do what I do.” Hannity told him the pair could use their differences to create interesting segments. “We will make it a thing on TV,” Jones remembers being told.
Lawrence Jones continues to do things differently at Fox News Channel. At 31, he is decidedly younger than many of the network’s best-known personalities. He is one of just a handful of people of color who hold regular posts on the Fox News schedule.

The Fox News Channel will offer a live simulcast of CNN’s presidential debate next week, the network announced in a statement.
The debate is scheduled to take place on Thursday, June 27 and will mark the first formal debate between incumbent President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump. Both are the presumed nominees for their respective parties.
The event is the first time two leading presidential candidates have participated in a nationally-televised debate not organized by the Commission on Presidential Debates since the 1980s. The candidates mutually agreed to appear on CNN and ABC News for at least two debates during the election season, and the two networks have offered other TV stations and news outlets the opportunity to simulcast them live.

Now that the upfronts are over, it’s time to hand out much-deserved accolades to those who made this year’s presentations truly unforgettable.
Just remember, everyone’s a winner here. But these folks made the week extra special in New York.
Most Ominous Overture: Kelly Clarkson kicking off a week of upfronts that used to be the sole proprietorship of broadcast networks with tunes like “Whatever Makes You Stronger” and “Since U Been Gone.”
Best Dressed Code Breakers: Men like Bob Iger, Casey Bloys, Mike Hopkins and Rob Wade for appearing without ties. Nothing says we are hemorrhaging money more than a nude neck.
Earworm Award: Beyoncé’s Texas Hold ‘Em and Miley Cyrus’ Flowers that were played on a loop.
Best Joke of the Week: “NBC is launching the new adventure Destination X,” said Seth Meyers at the NBCU upfront. “It was originally titled the Linda Yaccarino story.

Michael Strahan and Gordon Ramsay kicked off the show in the theater-in-the-sound setting, and it took all of 20 seconds before Ramsay dropped his first f-bomb. The 2024 Fox upfront presentation featured an appearance by Jamie Foxx in one of his first public appearances since his health crisis last year.
Foxx took to the stage and did his best to crack up the crowd of advertisers, a tall order considering the bar had yet to open. He gave it his all though, showcasing his trademark wit and charisma, reminding the attendees “You got free alcohol after this. Let’s get f—ed up!”
The host of the Fox competition series “Beat Shazam,” Foxx not only took the chance to plug his own series but also Fox shows like “The Masked Singer,” “Animal Control,” and the MLB’s upcoming Negro Leagues tribute game at Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Alabama, for Fox Sports. South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem embarked this week on one of the more tumultuous book tours in recent memory, as she was peppered with questions about an anecdote about killing her dog Cricket, and another story about meeting North Korean leader Kim Jung Un. Major doubts were raised that the latter story was true.

The book was an obvious was of getting attention as Donald Trump considers potential running mates, but Rob Finnerty of Newsmax went so far as to tell her, directly, “I don’t even think you’re on the list.”

Former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley received over 156,000 votes in the Pennsylvania GOP primary election despite dropping out of the race in March, suggesting a significant protest vote among Republicans.
Haley won 16.5% of Pennsylvania’s primary vote on April 23.
She secured twice the number of votes by which Joe Biden beat Donald Trump in 2020.
Both parties are focusing on Pennsylvania since its 19 electoral votes make it a critical battleground state.
Tens of thousands of Republicans refused to vote for Trump even though he is the likely GOP nominee.
He won the primary race in the critical swing state with 83.5% of the vote, amounting to more than 786,000 votes.
Biden gained 90% of the Democratic vote in this primary election.
If the former South Carolina governor’s GOP supporters decide not to back the former president in November, it could swing Pennsylvania in Biden’s favor. This week, the Biden campaign increased outreach...

Jon Stewart called out Fox News on The Daily Show for their eclipse coverage with an immigration angle.
As North America prepared to witness the solar eclipse, Fox News warned viewers of the threat to the southern border that this represented.
“We are told that officials are bracing for higher traffic than usual and that means a real opportunity for smugglers and cartels and migrants to come right in,” Bill Hemmer said on the cable network after co-host Dana Perino said the eclipse would last about four minutes.
Stewart quipped, “Or they could just wait til nighttime.”
The Comedy Central host then questioned if there was anything Fox News couldn’t tie to immigration, mocking the anchors and saying, “This year’s cicada infestation provides perfect cover for Venezuelans.”
Later on in the show, Stewart had Christiane Amanpour as a guest who called the eclipse “beautiful.”

It’s eclipse day in America, and if you thought Fox News was going to act normal about it, you were wrong.
The right-wing news network wasted no time on Monday attempting to link the moon’s brief blotting out of the sun to migrant crossings at the Mexico border.
“Fox News alert! A rare celestial event collides with a policy failure on the ground. The southern border is directly in the path of totality today when the moon covers the sun,” host Dana Perino said during Monday’s broadcast of America’s Newsroom.

Greg Gutfeld isn’t your typical Fox News personality. But he is turning in to something that is more traditional at the Fox Corp.-backed cable outlet.
Fox News is expected to announce that it recently closed a deal with Gutfeld to extend his contract, a move that spotlights the host’s importance to the network’s operations even if he isn’t in the mold of a Sean Hannity or Laura Ingraham. Under the pact, Gutfeld will continue his co-hosting duties at the roundtable show “The Five” as well as his 10 p.m. program, “Gutfeld!,” a looser take on the issues of the day that marks a bid by Fox News to woo the younger TV viewers who might watch late-night programs such as “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” on CBS or “The Daily Show” on Comedy Central. The third anniversary of the 10 p.m. program arrives Friday.

It was one year ago on Friday that The Wall Street Journal’s Evan Gershkovich was detained in Russia on espionage charges that the U.S. government has called “fiction.”
On Thursday, Gershkovich’s detention was extended by another three months, according to the Journal, as he awaits trial.
The Journal said in a statement, “It’s a ruling that ensures Evan will sit in a Russian prison well past one year. It was also Evan’s 12th court appearance, baseless proceedings that falsely portray him as something other than what he is—a journalist who was doing his job. He should never have been detained. A small contingent of journalists gathered near the Canadian border earlier this morning to watch as Dixville Notch, Nh, continued its tradition of casting the first ballots on an election day.
Nikki Haley cleaned Donald Trump’s clock in this hamlet — 6 votes to none.
As the day goes on, network correspondents are fanning out across the state at precincts to talk to actual voters, after months in which the first-in-the-nation primary was judged and assessed by polls. Commentary and analysis is focusing on whether
Haley and her top surrogate, New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu, blitzed the airwaves on Monday, while Trump held a final rally in Laconia, Nh, where he predicted that Haley would be out of the race after tonight. He was interrupted by climate protesters, who have been a frequent presence at events in recent days.

Media-wise, the 2024 presidential election crosses the official starting line with debate season, and this cycle the contenders on the Republican side, including a multiple-indicted former Potus, are looking to beat Democrat Joe Biden and take over the White House. But first they have to take on one another.
For the candidates, debates are a way to score points against a rival, stand out from the field or define a campaign that’s heretofore been rudderless.

Front-runner Trump has opted out of all the debates so far. In August, he instead decided to hold forth with Tucker Carlson in a more friendly pre-taped interview. Have you heard it’s cold in Des Moines? The subzero temperatures are making Monday’s caucuses in Iowa the coldest on record, a running theme of coverage throughout the day and into this evening. It’s not trivial, as the frigid weather may very well impact turnout.
As Iowa’s first votes of the 2024 presidential race come in, expect a lot of analysis, punditry and prediction, even if the results represent just a sliver of the primary electorate. The Hawkeye state’s primacy as the first-in-the-nation often obscures the peculiarities of the caucus system, unless there is some kind of glitch, which is what happened four years ago with the Democrats.
That said, networks see the caucuses as the kickoff of what is hoped a spike in viewer interest in the presidential contest, as was seen in 2020 and 2016. All of the broadcast networks are planning for ongoing coverage of...

Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said that he had an uneasy feeling about George Santos, facing an expulsion vote this week, before the 2022 election and even predicted to two Fox News anchors that “something is going to come out on this guy.”

The one major political figure who spent more time than any other in the GOP debate Spin Room wasn’t even a Republican: California Gov. Gavin Newsom.
Speaking for Joe Biden’s re-election campaign, Newsom sparred with Sean Hannity on Fox News’ Hannity, spoke with CNN’s Dana Bash and chatted with MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow. He answered questions about his own presidential ambitions, defended the state of California, praised the recent WGA-amptp agreement and even weighed in the Travis Kelce-Taylor Swift situation. “It was the XFL, the Jv team,” Newsom said of the seven candidates who participated in the event.
Some of the actual candidates who appeared onstage did venture into the spin room for lengthy periods, including Vivek Ramaswamy, Tim Scott, Mike Pence and Doug Burghum, but Newsom also did a pre-debate round of Spin Room interviews to a swarm of reporters and camera crews.

The tone of the second Republican primary debate can best be summed up with a slip of the tongue from Vivek Ramaswamy: “Thank you for speaking while I’m interrupting.”
Over two chaotic, loud, and often unintelligible hours, seven candidates appeared onstage for a second round of jabs between presidential hopefuls — who at this point are all still fighting for second place. Fox News once again hosted the debate, tapping Stuart Varney, Dana Perino, and Univision’s Ilia Calderón as moderators. The trio struggled to maintain any semblance of control over the proceedings.

Update: Moderator Dana Perino tried to finish off the debate with a Survivor-style question: Write down their choice on who should drop out of the race, given that none of them would get the nomination over Donald Trump unless the field was thinned.
“Which one of you, tonight, should be voted off the island?” Perino asked.
Ron DeSantis, however, put a stop to it. “I think that is disrespectful to my fellow contenders.”
Chris Christie, however, seized on the question to argue that Donald Trump should be voted off the island.
“This guy has not only divided our party, he has divided families all over the country,” Christie said.
Previously: Ronald Reagan’s 11th Commandment — thou shall not speak ill of another Republican — has been cited during the debate but surely not followed.
As if realizing time was running out to make a mark, candidates came prepared to attack the others.

Former President Donald Trump again is bashing the prospect of another Republican presidential debate, falsely claiming that his absence has translated into low viewership.
In fact, when his rivals gather at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library for the second debate on Wednesday, the question will be whether the event on Fox Business and Univision can match last month’s figures for the first gathering: a higher-than-expected 12.8 million viewers.
Fox News’s Dana Perino, who will moderate the debate with Stuart Varney and Univision’s Ilia Calderón, suggested that the viewership reflected a willingness among voters to look at alternatives.
“I think there’s people who are open minded and they’re paying a lot of attention, and they care about the direction of this country and they’re worried about it,” Perino told Deadline.
“I think that the national level of anxiety is very high, in particular on a couple of issues,...

At Fox Business Network — for one night, at least — it’s all a lot more than the economy.
When the cable outlet televises a Republican primary debate on September 27, many of the strategies it used the last time it did so are going out the window. Gone are moderators Neil Cavuto and Maria Bartiromo, who have experience with such events. In their place: First-timers Stuart Varney and Dana Perino, alongside Univision’s Ilia Calderón. The network will also move away from its efforts to focus largely on business and economic topics, as it has in the past.
Executives at Fox News Media have begun contemplating when to take more momentous news coverage to a broader audience, says Jay Wallace, president and executive editor of Fox News Media, in an interview. “There are very few events out there anymore,” Wallace says. “People do care about politics,” he adds. “It is a...
