2025 Emmy Awards Nominations by Streaming Platform: HBO & Max Tops the List With 142 Nominations
Image
The 77th Primetime Emmy nominations are finally here, and let’s just say—it’s been a wild shuffle in the streaming world. HBO and Max walked in like total bosses, scooping up a jaw-dropping 142 Emmy nominations and leaving the rest of the competition in a cloud of sparkly dust. It’s the kind of flex that shows the streaming service’s commitment to quality content.

Some streamers managed to hold their ground, and a few even climbed a notch or two, but plenty are nursing a wound or two from their sudden drop. And then there are the ones just floating somewhere in between.

This year’s nomination list? It’s a buffet. A bit of everything—capes, chaos, complicated feelings, confessions, and the occasional dance number. Prestige dramas are rubbing shoulders with messy reality TV, and superhero shows are still elbowing their way to the spotlight. It’s loud,...

Bela Bajaria Is Cheerleading Netflix’s “Breadth” Of Emmy Noms & First-Time Emmy Nominees
Image
Netflix’s 120 Emmy nominations Tuesday came from 44 titles across 14 genres and includes series as divergent as Adolescence and America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.

The streamer also helped 11 stars land their first Emmy nominations.

Chief content officer Bela Bajaria says she is pleased with both of these things as she celebrates her company’s achievements out of this morning’s reveals.

“We’re very pleased because they come from 44 titles and 14 different program categories,” she told Deadline. “I’ll tell you why that’s important and there’s a lot of happy people in and outside the building is because we’re always aiming for excellence in television but across a lot of different [genres]. We know that audiences love drama and comedy but they also love unscripted and docs and animation and limited series, stand-up and TV movies so to be recognized in all of those different categories is really rewarding.

Tom Segura Goes Full Filmmaker With ‘Bad Thoughts’ And R-Rated Comedy ‘El Tigre’ – Comedy Means Business Podcast
Image
Any fan of Tom Segura’s work knows that he loves to push boundaries. And recently, with projects in front of and behind the camera including Bad Thoughts and the just-announced El Tigre, he’s moved to do just that with his own career. While fulfilling his desire to explore filmmaking, he’s showing how well his brand of sharp, dark, deadpan comedy can translate in the narrative space.

Between five Netflix specials and a podcasting empire through his Ymh Studios — Your Mom’s House being the flagship series — Segura and wife/fellow comic Christina Pazsitzky have cultivated one of today’s most diehard comedy fandoms. It’s a world unto itself, with its own inside-joke terminology — a world of “horrible or hilarious” segments and “cool guys,” of invisalign struggles, and TikTok curations casting a light on the most dark, strange, profane and hilarious corners of the internet.

Bert Kreischer to Topline Netflix Sitcom
Image
Bert Kreischer has made five stand-up specials for Netflix, and now he’s taking the time-honored path trod by many comedians: starring in a sitcom.

Kreischer will play the title role in and is a co-creator of Free Bert, a six-episode comedy the streamer has ordered. Jarrad Paul and Andrew Mogel (The Grinder, Huge in France) co-created the show with Kreischer and will serve as showrunners, writers and directors. The cast also includes Arden Myrin, Lilou Lang and Ava Ryan.

In Free Bert, Kreischer will play a version of himself — a “shirtless comedian, party legend, perpetual wildcard,” as the show’s logline puts it. He finds himself in unfamiliar territory when his daughters (Lang and Ryan) are accepted at an elite private school in Beverly Hills. When his antics turn the family into outcasts, he decides to put a shirt on and stifle his true self in order to fit in.

If you haven’t heard about it, that’s okay. The unusual comedy has flown under the radar for most and hasn’t exactly been met with glowing reviews.

Netflix Just Renewed a New Comedy With Only 54% on Rotten Tomatoes
Image
Funnyman Tom Segura's new comedy series, Bad Thoughts, didn't have the warmest of receptions when it debuted on Netflix in May. While many critics seemingly didn't "get" the humor, Netflix still sees high potential in the future of the show, resulting in a renewal deal anyway.

Per Variety, Bad Thoughts has officially been renewed by Netflix for Season 2. The news follows the series garnering an approval rating of 54% on Rotten Tomatoes, though the audience score was considerably higher at 70%. The show features different vignettes with dark comedy elements, though some critics said that the series often goes too far into shock value territory. Others were particularly fond of Bad Thoughts, however, with one critic claiming that it surpassed the high bar for comedy specials previously set by Bo Burnham.

Officially, Netflix describes Bad Thoughts as a "collection of hilariously disturbing stories that push the boundaries of decency in ways only Tom Segura could imagine.

Netflix Renews Dark Comedy For Season 2 After First Season Divided Critics & Audiences
Image
Netflix has renewed Tom Segura's dark comedy sketch series Bad Thoughts for a second season despite receiving a critic score of just 54% on Rotten Tomatoes. Segura led the cast of Bad Thoughts, playing various characters in concept-themed episodes ranging from "Success" and "Family" to "Love" and Health." Bad Thoughts can feel like a twisted TV-ma version of Saturday Night Live, featuring multiple sketches throughout that each have unique and often vulgar twists. Season 1 of the dark comedy series premiered on May 13, 2025 and can be streamed exclusively on Netflix.

Variety exclusively reported the news of Bad Thoughts season 2 renewal. The announcement came along with a statement from Segura that reads, "We’re all so excited to push things further with Season 2. I promise your family will not approve of what we do." Although Bad Thoughts season 2 currently has no set release date on Netflix, it could be released sometime later this year,...

Tom Segura’s Bad Thoughts gets renewed for a second season at Netflix
Tom Segura in Tom Segura: Disgraceful (2018)
Tom Segura navigates unthinkable situations and fantasies within a cinematic world in his dark and twisted comedy series, Bad Thoughts. Our Alex Maidy had a ball with the first season as he said in his review, “I laughed from the opening short in the first episode and did not stop laughing through the sixth and final episode. My biggest complaint about the series is how short it is, with most episodes barely cracking the half-hour mark. Any sketch-format series is bound to have some duds or unfunny material, but Bad Thoughts is a winner throughout and has the potential to become a perennial hit for Netflix. Whether or not we get a second season, Tom Segura has proven his skills as a writer and filmmaker of cinematic caliber projects.”

Fans of the series can rejoice as more Bad Thoughts are coming after Netflix picked up the show for another season.

Netflix Renews Tom Segura’s ‘Bad Thoughts’ for Season 2 (Exclusive)
Image
Tom Segura has more “Bad Thoughts” to share.

Variety has learned exclusively that Netflix has officially picked up a second season of “Bad Thoughts,” the six-episode dark comedy created by and starring comedian Segura.

The series, which premiered in May, blends cinematic storytelling with Segura’s signature warped sense of humor, taking audiences through a series of unsettling and often outrageous scenarios. Described as a “dark and twisted” exploration of unthinkable fantasies, the show gained a substantial following for its boundary-pushing tone and sharp comedic lens.

The first season cast included Shea Whigham, Dan Stevens, Rachel Bloom and Rob Iler in his first role since “The Sopranos.” Segura’s mother had a visceral reaction when he screened the first few episodes for her, which the streaming giant leaned into for its marketing campaign. “We had her watch a few episodes in a private screening room with hidden cameras,” Segura told Variety in April,...

WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle sees big things ahead for Chad Gable, and honestly, who better to make that call? In WWE, wrestlers come from all sorts of backgrounds, but only a select few have deep roots in actual wrestling before stepping into the squared circle. Gable and Angle are two of those rare talents who put in the work long before their WWE days.

Maybe that shared journey is why Angle has a soft spot for Gable. In a recent interview, he opened up about his thoughts on “El Grande Americano” and whether Gable might just be the next Kurt Angle in the making.

I have been following her trajectory as a lifelong wrestling fan, and the excitement as she is about to turn a new chapter is getting to me.

May has been on the rise in Aew as a competing talent, but she might be a free agent now, and the rumor mill is saying she is potentially heading over to WWE. The fact that she tweeted about Triple H so long ago is such a nice personal touch that shows she is a true fan, just like the rest of us. Fans can’t wait to see her thrive on the biggest stage in the world.

Netflix has dropped a wild new comedy series, and it’s turning heads fast. Each episode of Bad Thoughts combines bizarre and often disturbing sketches that tread a fine line. Segura’s mind is clearly the playground, filled with ideas ranging from outrageous to flat-out uncomfortable. The series leans heavily into offbeat scenarios that test social norms.

Tom Segura Said Wrestling Is for Idiots in This Old Clip and Triple H Brought Him Into WWE

Professional wrestling has long been the subject of criticism, with critics voicing their concerns about its perceived lack of authenticity and the alleged scripted nature of every match and feud. This was evident when renowned comedian Tom Segura called out wrestling stans for being obsessed with the ‘fake sport’ and how they can’t think straight.

Hence, it resulted in some backstage conversation when the biggest wrestling hater was present in this week’s Raw segment, where he was having the time of his life. However, wrestling fans have not taken this lightly because of his comments on entertainment wrestling, and they hated his guts for attempting redemption.

The feeling of hostility was evident among the fans present at the show and the ones streaming the show, who lashed out on social media, calling him a hypocrite.

Country Music Fans Really Hate Tom Segura’s New Comedy Series
Image
After so many years of one-sided mockery, “Where are the bodies, Garth?” has given way to “Where are the jokes, Tom?”

Netflix deliberately marketed Tom Segura’s comedy series Bad Thoughts as a show that wouldn’t be for everyone — not even for Segura’s mother, who delivered the worst review of the series in a crowded field. However, as the general response to Bad Thought since its May 13th premiere has demonstrated, the audience for the show is pretty much reserved to the part of Segura’s fanbase that enjoys watching him regurgitate his old bits in between half-baked blue humor sketches.

One of the most prominently featured vignettes in Bad Thoughts is Segura’s extended parody of embattled country music singer Garth Brooks, a continuation of one of his longest-running Your Mom's House podcast jokes that Brooks is secretly a serial killer. But as the country music world...

Streaming shockers: The most viewed Netflix titles turning stomachs and heads
Image
The latest top five lists of the most viewed movies and shows on Netflix, as listed by Tudum, contain some shockers. It's not that they are bad to watch, though. Some are hard to watch, especially if you have a delicate stomach.

There is just one new entry to last week's top five movies list. And what an entry when it comes to stomach churning. Given that it also uncovers a phony health scam, it won’t leave you feeling good. Three of the other movies cover a variety of crime and violence, too. Thankfully, there's also a heartwarming film that’s an antidote to the others, which will leave you hungry for more

It’s quite a change around on the top five shows, with three new entries this week. But the balance is still towards the tough-to-watch, uncomfortable viewing, a murder, and a major manhunt. This time, though,...

Interview: Tom Segura talks comedy, movie aspirations, Jason Momoa and his new Netflix series Bad Thoughts
Tom Segura in Tom Segura: Disgraceful (2018)
Tom Segura has become a popular podcast host in addition to his work as a stand-up comedian. With multiple comedy specials and tons of friends in the industry including Bert Kreischer and Bill Burr, Segura has a lot of connections. But, as big as he is on stage, Segura has long had the ambition to make movies. Some of his ideas came together as the beginning of what became his new Netflix series, Bad Thoughts.

Bad Thoughts is a six-episode series of interconnected short films that tackle the intrusive thoughts we all have, but cross the line of what we think in our imaginations, but would never act upon. Some shorts are multi-part stories that cross episodes, while others are brief, standalone films that work. Segura’s series has mock trailers, celebrity spoofs, and original ideas while featuring recognizable actors including Shea Whigham, Daniella Pineda, and Dan Stevens. Each episode...

Texas Incentives Draw More Productions as Lawmakers Mull a Big Increase: ‘We Want to Make Sure We’re the Ones Telling Our Stories’
Image
When the largest state in the country with a production incentive program does anything, it’s supersized. Texas has been enticing productions to film within its borders for about a century and isn’t letting up on its commitment anytime soon.

Last year, the Texas legislature approved a statewide filming grant of $200 million, up from $45 million. This session, Senate Bill 22 proposes a $500 million program that automatically renews every two years, for 10 years total. Aside from the funding, another key benefit would mean long-term productions coming to Texas wouldn’t have to worry each year that their incentives might disappear with a flick of a pen. Sb 22 is about security as much as funding. (The vote on Sb 22 has not occurred as of deadline.)

Fred Poston, executive director of the Texas Media Production Alliance (Txmpa), says, “With a state that’s as proud as Texas is, we want to make sure...

‘Bad Thoughts’ Episodes 1-6 Recap And Ending
Image
Tom Segura and Jeremy Konner, making the most of their imagination, really try to justify the title of the latest Netflix series, Bad Thoughts. I wouldn’t deny that at first I thought that each episode of the series was going to deal with a particular theme or subject, and by mocking the established status quo and making use of satire and other literary devices, it was going to talk about some deep philosophical aspects of life. But Bad Thoughts wasn’t about that. Tom Segura and his team have chosen themes, like health, communication, love, etc., and then just let their imagination run wild. Through their weird and at times utterly disgusting scenarios, they have tried to push the limits. It is as if they are constantly checking what the breaking point of a person is; what is that point beyond which they’ll get offended? The makers walk on thin ice,...

Bad Thoughts TV Review: Tom Segura’s hilarious series combines Black Mirror with a sense of dark humor
Image
Plot: In this six-episode dark comedic series, Tom Segura navigates unthinkable situations and fantasies within a cinematic world.

Review: Tom Segura likes messed-up humor. The comedian and podcaster has made a career by telling relatable yet slightly intrusive jokes. Along with his contemporaries Bill Burr and Bert Kreischer, Tom Segura’s brand of comedy is shockingly honest and shockingly blunt yet delivered in a way that makes you think as hard as you are laughing. Segura also loves the scope and scale of cinema and has channeled that into his new series, Bad Thoughts. A collection of loosely connected short films unified by episodic themes, Bad Thoughts is for fans of ambitious comedic series like Key & Peele, Louie, Better Things, and Dave, but through a twisted lens reminiscent of The Twilight Zone and Black Mirror. Hilarious and deeply disturbing at the same time, Bad Thoughts will have you laughing...

‘Bad Thoughts’ Netflix Review: Tom Segura’s Comedy Series Is Traumatizing And Funny
Image
Up to 2020 I used to watch a lot of stand-up comedy. I guess my introduction to the genre was through Seinfeld. After that, I used to actively seek out old videos of Eddie Murphy, Chris Rock, Jim Carrey, George Carlin, and every other comic who built the bedrock of this profession. And I used to keep track of the newcomers, especially from India, because it was so interesting to get fresh and hilarious perspectives on things I encountered in my daily life. But then the pandemic happened, live shows were shut down, and all those Zoom sessions didn’t really cut it anymore. Then Bo Burnham released Inside and changed everything. Crowdwork didn’t seem funny anymore. Observations about urinals and, I don’t know, sliced bread fell flat. Jokes about the transgender community and sexist humor, which weren’t amusing to me to begin with, felt all the more crass.

Bad Thoughts Season 1 Review: When Shock Comedy Meets Streamlined Sketches
Image
Bad Thoughts arrived on Netflix on May 13, 2025, as a six-episode anthology sketch show totaling 114 minutes. Each installment unfolds through two or three discrete vignettes, some extending into two-part arcs that coax viewers into binge mode via cliffhanger endings. Creator and lead performer Tom Segura anchors the program with monologues delivered against a blank backdrop, setting up each episode’s thematic focus before launching into surreal comedic scenarios.

While the series carries a “dark comedy” label, its true identity lies in relentless gross-out humor and graphic sexual absurdity, leaning more toward brazen provocation than existential dread. Segura wears multiple hats—showrunner, writer, director and chameleon actor—shifting between characters with athletic physicality and deliberate vocal quirks.

Through taboo sketches involving bodily functions, humiliating desires and grotesque violence, the show seeks to elicit a blend of revulsion and laughter. That strategy isn’t designed for safe comfort; it operates as a social experiment in taste thresholds,...

‘Bad Thoughts’ Review: Tom Segura’s Proudly Disgusting, Occasionally Amusing Netflix Comedy
Image
In the first minutes of Netflix’s Bad Thoughts, creator and star Tom Segura explains what it’s like being a comedian. “You know that dumb shit you get sent to Hr for saying?” he smirks. “I get paid for that.”

He’s elucidating the broad theme of the episode — “jobs” — but really, he could be explaining his series as a whole. And his promise (or threat) is not an idle one. Bad Thoughts’ entire raison d’être is pushing past the boundaries of good taste, in hopes of provoking delighted horror or disgust. How successful you think Segura is at it, and whether you think it’s a worthy goal to begin with, is a matter of personal sensibility. I will say this: You can’t accuse the guy of not committing to a bit.

In interviews, Segura has compared Bad Thoughts to Twilight Zone or a “dark, comedic version of Black Mirror.

‘I Am Beyond Vomit’: Tom Segura’s Mom Told Him That His New Show Is ‘An Insult to Humanity’ On Camera
Image
Stand-up and podcasting star Tom Segura’s new dark comedy series Bad Thoughts will premiere on Netflix tomorrow, May 13th, just 48 hours after he used it to ruin Mother’s Day.

Segura’s relationship with (and impression of) his mother, Rosario “Charo” Lazarte, is one of the foundational elements of his indulgently offensive brand of comedy. From torturing her with morbid hypotheticals to “treating” her to a macrodose of marijuana edibles, Segura’s playfully mean-spirited sense of humor has always found a target in his poor mother, and on the eve of the Your Mom’s House host taking a big next step in his comedy career, Segura shared in the “joy” of his first self-starred TV series by subjecting his dear mom to a dose of disgusting comedy that she found less digestible than four gummies.

To celebrate and promote tomorrow’s premiere of Bad Thoughts, Netflix helped Segura to...

Bad Thoughts Review — Tom Segura’s Dark Comedy Anthology Falls Flat
Image
Bad Thoughts is the latest of many attempts by Netflix to team up with a popular comedian and leverage their appeal into mediums beyond the traditional stand-up special that the streamer has more or less cornered the market on. In this case, giving frequent collaborator Tom Segura a chance to explore the darker impulses of humanity via the anthology format.

I’ll be honest, despite generally enjoying stand-up comedy, I’m not really familiar with Segura’s work and thus didn’t really know what to expect going in. And while the end result is enjoyable enough for what it is, I don’t see myself seeking out more of his material based on my experience here.

Bad Thoughts Plot Tom Segura in Bad Thoughts

Given that Bad Thoughts is an anthology series, there isn’t really a traditional plot to be summarized. Each episode consists of about two or three standalone sketches,...

Tom Segura’s Mom Roasts His Netflix Comedy ‘Bad Thoughts’: ‘It’s an Insult to Humanity’ (Exclusive)
Image
Netflix has gifted fans a truly unhinged Mother’s Day treat: Tom Segura’s Peruvian mom Charo, absolutely eviscerating his new sketch comedy series, “Bad Thoughts.”

In a riotous promo released to Variety exclusively, the “Your Mom’s House” comedian invites his actual mother to a private screening — equipped with a reaction device to track her feedback. What follows is pure comedy gold.In the video, Segura gently instructs his mother to use a three-button device: a plus sign for approval, a thumbs down for disapproval, and a red button if something is so offensive she’d turn it off completely. By the end of the screening, she’s ready to disown him.

“No, Tommy. That’s not funny. This is so disgusting. I am beyond vomit,” she says, wincing as one sketch dives into jaw-dropping inappropriate territory. And that’s just the start.

“You can be a good comedian without being that disgusting,...

Golden Globes’ New Best Podcast Category Draws Applause — and Anxiety — From Creators and Industry
Image
The Golden Globes are tuning into the podcast boom.

In a bid to recognize a rapidly rising medium amid an even more quickly shifting media landscape, the Globes announced the addition of a best podcast of the year category at the 2026 Golden Globe Awards. The new honor marks the Globes’ first major expansion since introducing the box office and cinematic achievement category in 2023 — and it’s being met with a potent mix of excitement, skepticism and uncertainty from the podcasting world.

“This is what the industry needs — recognition that podcasting is storytelling,” says comedian Bert Kreischer, host of “Bertcast” and “2 Bears, 1 Cave,” which he co-hosts with his friend Tom Segura. “It’s not just noise. It’s a craft.”

Craft, however, is notoriously hard to define in a medium where a 90-minute unscripted conversation can top the charts next to a tightly edited news brief or a crime docuseries. According to preliminary guidelines,...

Tom Brady Still Regrets Netflix Roast Hurting His Kids: “Felt Like A Stake Through The Heart”
Image
A year later, Tom Brady is still trying to live down his roast and its adverse effect on his family.

Reflecting on Netflix‘s The Greatest Roast of All Time, the 7x Super Bowl champ said he doesn’t want to see his “kids hurt” the way they did after hearing some of the jokes on the live-streamed event.

“When you were in that moment, in that theater that night at the Forum, it was electric. It was crazy. We got done, everybody was on cloud nine. That moment, I’ll never forget. And then I’ll never forget when I talked to my kids the next day,” he said on the Impaulsive podcast. “I felt like a stake through the heart.”

Brady noted that he was fine with the jokes that took a shot at him, but he wasn’t as prepared for those at the expense of ex-wife Gisele Bündchen and their children.

Armie Hammer Shares Poster for a Safdie Bros. Movie That Isn't Happening
Image
Armie Hammer has stirred up some confusion on social media after sharing a poster for a new movie directed by the Safdie brothers, the filmmaking duo behind Uncut Gems and Good Time, with an important (but not publicized) catch: the project is not real. The Man from U.N.C.L.E. actor posted a cryptic image on his Instagram account teasing a collaboration with Benny and Josh Safdie for an upcoming film titled Persona Non Grata, in which he appears to have a starring role, and hinted at a Fall 2026 release in the caption.

The comments section of the Instagram post (seen below), which Hammer shared on his grid and further promoted via his stories, was immediately flooded with messages from his followers celebrating the news and congratulating the actor on his next role after a three-year absence from feature films. However, reps for both Benny and Josh Safdie...

Once starring in films like “Call Me By Your Name” opposite Timotheé Chalamet and David Fincher’s “The Social Network,” Hammer’s career derailed in 2021 following sexual assault allegations and apparent cannibalistic fantasies. He spent some time selling timeshares in the Cayman Islands before returning to the big screen in 2024 western “Frontier Crucible” opposite William H. Macy. Since then he’s spoken up about getting choosier with roles as his return to Hollywood heats up.

Despite dozens of comments hyping up Hammer, Variety is told by reps for both Benny and Josh Safdie that the project is not real.

Hammer, who previously starred in films like “The Social Network” and “Call Me By Your Name,” saw his career derailed four years ago following allegations of sexual assault.
