Horror Favourites – Terry Bird
Image
Veteran actor and producer Terry Bird has had a long and varied career across film, TV, and theatre, with credits spanning from In Fabric and Iron Ivan to Jeepers Creepers: Reborn and Call the Midwife. But now he takes on his grisliest role yet: the iconic barber with a vendetta in Sweeney Todd: Slice & Dice, arriving on Blu-ray, DVD and digital from 2 June 2025.

Set in the slums of Victorian London, Slice & Dice offers a savage new spin on the legendary tale, with themes that feel disturbingly modern — corruption, exploitation, and the hunger for justice — all wrapped in blood-soaked melodrama. Bird not only plays the lead but also produced the film under his New Town Films banner, with the production dedicated to his late friend, actor Darren Kent (Game of Thrones), whose spirit, he says, inspired the entire project.

As the release date looms, Terry reflects on the horror films...

Kiefer Sutherland's 15% Rotten Tomatoes Horror Movie Finds New Streaming Home
Image
Kiefer Sutherland, best known for starring in various action-thriller projects like 24 and Rabbit Hole, has showcased his versatility across different genres since the start of his acting career. He also ventured into supernatural territory, with a few credits in horror features, including the often-overlooked horror mystery Mirrors. Released in 2008, the supernatural horror movie sadly didn't receive widespread critical acclaim, holding only a 15% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes. Some critics criticized the movie for its weak plot, while some audiences appreciated the atmospheric appeal of the film. Although Mirrors received mixed reviews upon its release, it might receive a new lease on life (and a newfound following), as it will be heading to its new streaming home this June.

According to Cbr, the Alexandre Aja-helmed horror feature will be available for streaming on Hulu starting June 1, 2025. It will be joining the streamer's extensive horror catalog, which includes titles, like The Curse of La Llorona,...

Blood and Revenge Fuel ‘Sweeney Todd: Slice & Dice’
Image
Victorian vengeance is set to return this summer as Sweeney Todd: Slice & Dice prepares to take a swing at the UK’s horror scene. Released on 2 June via Kaleidoscope Film Distribution, the latest retelling of the infamous demon barber stars actor-producer Terry Bird in the title role, bringing a personal and contemporary edge to the classic tale.

Written and directed by Steven M. Smith, the film blends period horror with modern resonance, using its 1846 London setting to explore themes that remain deeply relevant today. From class oppression to corruption, Smith’s vision for Slice & Dice leans into the injustices of the past to reflect on those still present. Bird leads the charge not just on screen but behind the scenes as producer, marking the project as a labour of both artistry and compassion.

Best known for his work in In Fabric, Community, and Jeepers Creepers: Reborn, Bird steps into...

Game of Thrones Came Out 10 Years Too Early
Image
When HBO’s Game of Thrones finished its sixth season in 2016, the showrunners, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss were suddenly facing the problem that had always been in the back of the minds of fans. The road so far had been smooth, as the writers on the show had been able to follow the source material from the book series, A Song of Ice and Fire, by George Rr Martin. They had done so expertly until that point - and faithfully, and the show had been a remarkable success.

In fact - Game of Thrones had become a juggernaut that had exceeded HBO’s wildest expectations. It had become a show of cultural significance, with each episode and shocking event - of which there were many - invading popular culture as few shows had before. The memes and parodies were abundant, as were the weekly discussions around the proverbial water...

David Jacobs, ‘Dallas’ And ‘Knots Landing’ Creator, Dead At 84
Image
David Jacobs, the celebrated creator of hit ’80s TV series “Dallas” and “Knots Landing”, has died. He was 84.

Jacob’s son confirmed to multiple outlets on Tuesday that his father died on Aug. 20, at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, California, from complications due to Alzheimer’s.

Jacobs is also known for co-creating the Western drama series “Paradise”, alongside Robert Porter, which ran from 1988-1991.

Apart from his work as a TV writer, he also served as an executive producer on a number of shows, including “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman” and “Homefront” — the latter of which earned Jacobs two back-to-back Emmy nominations in 1992 and 1993.

In the wake of Jacobs’ death,...

Blood Drive's Colin Cunningham Details the Evolution of Slink — Plus: How He Asked for (And Got) Full Frontal Nudity

Blood Drive‘s titular race for years had been a subversive affair sneaked to lookie-loos via closed-circuit TV. But as the gauntlet gained a following, evil overlord Heart Enterprises stepped forward with a national broadcast and (gasp/ugh) “notes.”

Julian Slink — the race’s Master of Mayhem — at first waved off the input, steadfastly “trying to retain his integrity as an artist, to come up with something of worth that is meaningful,” says portrayer Colin Cunningham. Or at least “something of worth” as pertains a contest where the cars are fueled by ill-gotten human blood. But in this Wednesday’s...

Community Brings Hoodie Horror and Violent Youth in this Second Trailer
28Dla's friends over at Quiet Earth have debuted a second trailer for Community courtesy of High Point Media. In the second clip there is more horror as a hybrid brand of marijuana changes parents into the lackadaisical and their children into killers. The latest movies from the United Kingdom that involve horror have tackled themes of youth run rampant. Eden Lake (2008), Harry Brown (2009) and the recent Attack the Block (2011) show the ills of urban living and the difficult choices therein.

Also, Community stars Elliott Jordan who set Cinemas in Bolton ablaze with another horror effort titled The Toybox. The Toybox was also shot in the United Kingdom and instead of drug dealing hoodies this film dealt with witches and ancient myths. Jordan continues to be one of the standouts in modern British horror with Darren Kent (The Incident) and Terry Bird also starring in Community. Enjoy the second trailer for the film inside.
