“The Daily Show” takes on Joe Rogan in a new installment of its “Daily Showography” series, exploring the podcaster and comedian’s rise to becoming a leading figure of the manosphere.
The segment, titled “The Path to Roganlightenment,” playfully skewers Rogan’s television career, health and fitness regimen and conspiracy theories. The seven-minute clip will play during Wednesday night’s episode of “The Daily Show,” hosted by Desi Lydic at 11 p.m. Et on Comedy Central.
“For millennia, the great philosophers have sought to answer life’s most profound questions. And today, a new thinker has emerged to grapple with the mysteries of our universe,” the video opens, just before cutting to Rogan asking, “Why do Black people like menthols so much? What’s that about?” In another clip, Rogan, clad in an elf costume, says, “Everything has a consciousness. Literally everything — even tables.”

What a difference a week — and a shocking cancellation — makes.
When the 2025 Emmy nominations were announced on July 15, the Best Variety Talk Series race appeared to be a slam dunk for The Daily Show. However, following CBS' so-called "purely financial decision" to end The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on July 17, the forecast has become clouded.
The Late Show has a 26 percent chance of winning the Emmy, according to the Gold Derby predictions. That's a 19-point surge from the 7 percent chance the show had on the day it was canceled. Stephen Colbert's ascension is the direct result of Gold Derby's experts, editors, and users updating their picks, no doubt believing Television Academy members might want to reward The Late Show for what many see as a political decision, and provide a platform for a charged acceptance Emmy speech from Colbert.
Meanwhile, The Daily Show has seen its hopes drop significantly over that same time period.

Late-night television is struggling. We see it with Stephen Colbert’s Late Show, where CBS’ latest financial disclosures lead me to believe that someone on staff is setting money on fire every day as a pre-taping ritual. Whether Colbert is actually losing $40 million a year is really besides the point, in general late night is suffering a viewership crisis. The Daily Show’s Jon Stewart admitted as much earlier this week, calling the format the equivalent of a “Blockbuster kiosk inside of a Tower Records.”
But ironically, The Daily Show might be the first late-night program that actually hacked something that feels miraculous in a time when TikTok and short-form video content is frying Gen Z brain cells like electric mosquito traps in Florida. In fact, The Daily Show brought in new viewers this week in the 18-49 demographic.
How? They brought in a host under 40 years old who has a large internet following.

CBS has officially canceled The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, paving the way for their late-night programming block to be taken over by the TV equivalent of a Spirit Halloween come next May.
And while the network has claimed that the decision was made purely for financial reasons, it’s hard not to interpret the surprise move as an effort to please President Donald Trump, thus ensuring a smooth merger between CBS’ parent company Paramount and Skydance Media — especially because Trump seems so pleased about it.
But all of this does beg the question: How does Jon Stewart still have a job?
The Daily Show’s Monday host recently stated that he isn’t going anywhere any time soon (probably), despite the fact he, too, works for a show owned by Paramount and doesn’t refrain from joking about, say, Trump’s “chronic penis insufficiency.”

The Daily Show has appointed a brand-new host for the Tuesday through Thursday slot, despite Jon Stewart hinting at a possible cancellation for the show. The hugely successful talk show has run on Comedy Central since 1996, and Stewart had a long-term tenure as host from 1999 to 2015, after which he departed, before returning in 2024.
Despite the growth in viewership following Stewart's return, the host has intimated recently that The Daily Show could face the same cancellation fate as The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. However, despite the uncertainty surrounding the future of the show, a new host of The Daily Show has just been appointed.
Per THR, Josh Johnson will take over the hosting gig for The Daily Show in the coming days. He previously worked as a writer for NBC's Tonight Show before becoming a correspondent on the Comedy Central series. He will join a host rotation of Ronny Chieng,...

Amid the changing tides of late-night TV, one thing remains constant: Jon Stewart delivers. The Daily Show saw its best ratings in 10 years, and it's all thanks to Stewart's return.
According to Nielsen data, The Daily Show's second quarter of 2025 returned the best quarterly share since 2015's third quarter. The numbers reflect viewers in the 18-49 demo in live-plus-three numbers, a key share of the audience for networks. The last time numbers were this good, Jon Stewart was saying goodbye to The Daily Show for what we believed was the last time.
Now, Stewart has turned Monday nights into must-see TV. The lone night Stewart is behind the desk has become The Daily Show’s biggest winner. Ratings for Mondays are up 43% compared to when he returned in the first quarter of 2024.
That's not to completely dismiss the rotating cast of correspondents that fill in the rest of the week behind Stewart.

The Daily Show’s Jon Stewart, who recently called Paramount Global’s settlement with President Donald Trump “shameful”, has weighed in on the future of the late-night show.
Asked whether Skydance, which is in the process of buying Paramount Global, parent company of his network Comedy Central, would cancel the irascible talk show, Stewart essentially shrugged his shoulders.
But he did reveal that he has not had any contact with David Ellison or others at Skydance and joked that he’s been “kicked out of shittier establishments than that” and the company may “sell the whole fucking place for parts”.
He also compared Comedy Central to muzak.
“Unfortunately, we haven’t heard anything from them,” he said on his podcast The Weekly Show with Jon Stewart. “They haven’t called me and said like ‘Don’t get too comfortable in that office, Stewart.’ But let me tell you something, I...

When Jon Stewart left The Daily Show in August 2015, his final episode and its lead-up helped Comedy Central to some pretty decent numbers for the man who arguably changed the state of late-night.
Stewart’s return to ratings success has been well documented but what might be surprising is that The Daily Show just scored its biggest quarterly share in ten years – since Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band sent him off to the Land of Hope and Dreams.
Nielsen data shows that the second quarter of 2025 was the show’s best quarterly share since the third quarter of 2015 when it comes to viewers in the 18-49 demo in live-plus-three numbers.
It’s somewhat of a surprise given that his first show back in February 2024 was the most-watched episode of the show in five years and the period in question – April, May and June – scored higher ratings than the...

Now this is something to talk about.
There's outrage in Hollywood over the expected number of nomination slots for the Best Talk Series Emmy. With only 13 submissions this year, the category is dropping from four nominees to a historic low of three. In this era of Peak TV, that simply doesn't seem like enough representation.
In 2023, buoyed by industry complaints that Last Week Tonight With John Oliver kept winning the talk-show category despite not exactly being one, the Television Academy reimagined the variety races as Best Talk Series and Best Scripted Variety Series. The former is for programs that rely on unscripted moments such as interviewing guests, while the latter is for variety fare, essentially scripted from start to finish. That solved the John Oliver problem, but it also limited the number of submissions for each category. Last year, there were 14 entries for Best Talk Series, which yielded four nominees,...

On May 8, the day before she popped on a Zoom for this conversation, Desi Lydic was wrapping up prep for that evening’s The Daily Show when the 4:30 curse struck again. White smoke was billowing in Vatican City, and now the staff of the Comedy Central institution needed to reshape the first half of the episode around the announcement of an American pope. “We’ll have an entire show written and then some time between 4 and 5 o’clock, something will happen,” says Lydic, who shares the hosting carousel with Ronny Chieng, Jordan Klepper, Michael Kosta and Jon Stewart. “Then we have just enough time to scrap it and start from scratch.”

While reporting about the upcoming protests set to take place in Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. this weekend, “The Daily Show’s” Michael Kosta and Jordan Klepper argued over which “Les Misérables” character Donald Trump is most like between Jean Valjean and Javert.
“These detention raids are a cruel display of Trump’s villainy. He’s definitely the Javert of our time,” Kosta chimed in first.
His opinion on the subject stemmed from recent interview Trump did while walking the red carpet for the Kennedy Center’s showing of the “Les Misérables” musical. While there, a reporter asked Trump if he identified more with Javert, the main antagonist in the story, or main protagonist Jean Valjean. His response? “I don’t know.”
Klepper chimed in, shutting down Kosta’s judgement and throwing some shade at his fellow “Daily Show” colleague while he was at it.

Michael Kosta, one of the hosts of The Daily Show, is currently in the Everglades hunting pythons.
However, while Desi Lydic hosts the show this week, Kosta is not just taking a break from the bleak political situation with a good ol’ snake hunt. He’s in the field, one of The Daily Show’s signature segments.

Since its debut in 1996, The Daily Show has been a cornerstone of political satire and late-night comedy. Under Jon Stewart’s iconic leadership from 1999 to 2015, it evolved into a cultural phenomenon that reshaped how America engages with the news. After Stewart stepped down from his daily hosting duties, Trevor Noah took over the news desk. Following Noah’s departure, Stewart made a return in 2024 as a weekly guest host on Mondays, joining a dynamic team of rotating hosts — Jordan Klepper, Desi Lydic, Ronny Chieng, Michael Kosta — and correspondents Troy Iwata, Josh Johnson and Grace Kuhlenschmidt. Each brings their own sharp perspective to the desk and in the field, continuing the show’s tradition of blending humor with hard-hitting commentary. The Daily Show won two 2024 Emmy Awards for Best Talk Series and Best Picture Editing for Variety Programming from seven nominations, as well as the 2023 Emmy Award for Best Talk Series.

Jon Stewart gave a stirring defense of writers as tech companies increasingly dominate the entertainment business.
The Daily Show host said the loss of opportunities for writers as technology companies, such as Apple, Netflix and Amazon move further into the business, would be a “tragic thing to lose”.

Well, well, well. The entirely predictable yet explosive end to Donald Trump’s relationship with oligarch Elon Musk was catnip for late night hosts Thursday evening, with the likes of Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel, Seth Meyers, Jimmy Fallon and Michael Kosta fully leaning into their glee at the billionaire breakup.
Trump and Musk’s previously mutually beneficial bromance has ended in a messy and very public divorce, after growing tensions over the Tesla and SpaceX boss’ declining influence at the White House, failures at Doge and Trump’s hugely controversial “Big Beautiful Bill” that Musk feels will explode the U.S. deficit. Musk has spent the last few days posting his displeasure about the “debt slavery bill” that was “a disgusting abomination.” Things came to a head Thursday, when Trump fired back at Musk, suggesting the Tesla CEO was salty and went “crazy” over the removal of Ev credits in the spending bill.

Jordan Klepper will once again “finger the pulse” in a new Comedy Central special focused on young Donald Trump voters.
Presented by “The Daily Show,” the special, titled “Maga: The Next Generation,” will premiere immediately following “The Daily Show” on May 19 at 11:30 p.m. It will stream on Paramount+ and be available on “The Daily Show’s” YouTube channel starting May 20.
Klepper, the “Daily Show” host known for his man-on-the-street interviews at Trump rallies, will meet young Republicans where they are, visiting everywhere from college campuses to Mma octagons. He’ll seek to answer the following questions: “In 2024, Donald Trump did better with voters under 30 than any Republican candidate since 2008. Was it because of economic anxiety or were they drawn to the rizz of a 78-year-old fist dancing to Ymca? Is the Maga vibe shift permanent, or are young voters just rebelling against a Constitution that’s been bossing America around for 250 years?...

The rhythm of late-night television changed back in 2017 when Donald Trump became President, forcing all of the talk shows to prepare for the dreaded 4 p.m. rewrite.
So, when Trump was reelected for a second term, it’s a challenge that all of the late-night shows know how to face.
The team behind The Daily Show says they’re already in “game shape” to handle it.
Desi Lydic, one of the show’s hosts alongside Jon Stewart, Ronny Chieng, Jordan Klepper and Michael Kosta, was behind the desk earlier this month during “tariff week,” which saw the news change almost hourly. How do you handle a situation like that?

“Oh my god, with a lot of help from a lot of staff members and some opiates,” Lydic joked during Deadline’s Contenders Television: Documentary, Unscripted & Variety event. “[That] was a bit of a roller-coaster news week.

With Jon Stewart back in the saddle Monday nights and the “Best F**king News Team” sharing anchor duties the rest of the week, 'The Daily Show' has once again hit its stride, but as Michael Kosta recalls, the show was in a very different place a couple of years ago as it muddled through an uneven guest host period that had some on the show's staff shaking their heads.

Scott Glenn almost never played Jim Hollinger in season three of HBO’s The White Lotus, dismissing the role he was offered as just another old guy part until he sat down and watched the show.
Appearing on Thursday’s episode of The Daily Show, Glenn revealed that when he was first offered the part of Hollinger, he turned it down. “I just finished a film called Eugene the Marine that was tons of martial arts and dancing and shit like that, and it was basically about ageism and how you deal with it when you’re old and still have a life left in the tank,” the actor said. “And [The White Lotus producers] sent me a description of this old guy with a cane, and I thought fuck that.”

Michael Kosta is not a journalist. That’s the first thing the Daily Show host says when someone asks him a big, important news question meant for Diane Sawyer or Wolf Blitzer. But when I met with Kosta via Zoom to discuss The Daily Show’s role in Trump 2.0 and how it differs from Trump’s first go-around, he was happy to get into it. We also discussed his new memoir, Lucky Loser: Adventures in Tennis and Comedy, in which Kosta writes about the field he actually dreamed of being in: tennis — and how failing at that helped him to eventually excel in comedy.
Kosta has been with The Daily Show since 2017 — going from correspondent to fill-in host to now one of the show’s rotating hosts — so he’s seen the impact the show can have on its audience. “The number one thing people say to me when they...

John Oliver returned to Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” to “welcome America to its monarchy era.” He had no real words of wisdom for us. No, no, no. Oliver showed up to “gloat.”
“America had it’s little fun, didn’t you? Experimenting with democracy. You fought so hard to get away from us — acting up, throwing all of that tea into the harbor,” the HBO “Last Week Tonight” host said while standing behind Jon Stewart, his former boss. “You told everybody that you were gonna be different. You weren’t going to turn out like your mean old dad, who was so horrible to you growing up. So we stepped back. We let you spend your wild teen years experimenting with your ridiculous ideas of checks and balances because deep down we knew that once you got that nonsense out of your system that you’d be back.

Tonight’s installment of The Daily Show had Jon Stewart tackling a number of topics — from president Donald Trump’s “war on Dei” to his aggression toward nations like Panama (he wants to “take back” the canal) and Denmark (he wants to buy Greenland).
“Denmark, Panama and Canada,” the host remarked, “we’re America, we used to fight the Nazis. Now we’re scouring the globe for easy marks? What are we, the Jake Paul of nations?”
Moving on to Trump’s tariffs, Stewart played a clip of Democratic Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer, who gave a press briefing to address the fallout of such actions, holding up a beer and an avocado as examples of items that could become more expensive as a result of the trade war.

“The Daily Show” didn’t hold back when it came to Donald Trump’s recent executive order banning the service of transgender military officers. Host Michael Kosta dug into what he really thought of the decision in a monologue that was practically dripping with his signature brand of sarcasm.
On Monday, Trump determined that the “adoption of a gender identity inconsistent with an individual’s sex conflicts with a soldier’s commitment to an honorable, truthful and disciplined lifestyle, even in one’s personal life.” Though the word “transgender” was never used, many have dubbed the order a trans ban, and Kosta had a field day with those three adjectives.
“It makes sense that the military has to be honorable, truthful and disciplined,” Kosta said on Tuesday’s episode before flashing a picture of a drunk Pete Hegseth. “Sure, this is your Secretary of Defense. But that’s all the...

Walking into the 11th Avenue studio of “The Daily Show” on Tuesday night was instantly an odd experience. Typically, recordings for the Comedy Central staple are crackling with energy. People talk and laugh, quoting late night jokes or comparing their list of favorite correspondents. But on election night, the queue crowd wasn’t excited so much as tense as it filed in around 10:15 p.m. Et, when the first results were showing a lean in Donald Trump’s direction.
It was a feeling that continued throughout the hourlong live special. What started as a fun way to spend the evening morphed into something akin to taking a sick dog to the park for one last game of fetch as the results came in. But the mounting dread permeating the studio audience highlighted one key insight: we still need Jon Stewart, perhaps now more than ever.

Jon Stewart isn’t quite ready to let go of his weekly Daily Show gig.
Comedy Central announced Monday that Stewart has signed an extension that will keep him as a once-a-week host and full-time executive producer of The Daily Show through December 2025. The news comes just over nine months after Stewart made a deal to return to the show he hosted from 1998-2015.
That initial deal had Stewart hosting the show once a week (usually Monday nights) through the presidential election. With Election Day looming (and Stewart set to host a live, hour-long special on Nov. 5), the extension will keep Stewart on The Daily Show through the first year of the next president’s term.

Jon Stewart is sticking around.
The comedian has extended his deal to remain as host of The Daily Show through the end of 2025. It means that Stewart will be behind the desk to poke fun at the next President either Kamala Harris or Donald Trump.
The move is not a huge surprise given how popular Stewart’s run has been, giving the Comedy Central show a shot in the arm in terms of ratings as well as cultural capital. Stewart had previously said he would host through the election.

Last October, Roy Wood Jr. surprisingly announced he was leaving The Daily Show after eight years.
The main reason it was a surprise was that the Comedy Central series was still looking for a permanent host to replace Trevor Noah and no decision had been made at that point, meaning that Wood Jr. was at least in the frame to take the role.
However, the comedian, who is now hosting the U.S. remake of Have I Got News For You for CNN, told Gayle King why he decided to leave the storied late-night franchise.
Last night Roy Wood, Jr. was a guest on Gayle King’s SiriusXM program, where he spoke frankly about fear being behind his reasoning for leaving “The Daily Show,” and why he brought his son with him to clean out his office.

Presidential nominees, they’re just like us … sort of. That’s what “The Daily Show” occasional host and senior correspondent Michael Kosta discovered when Republican nominee Donald Trump posted on Truth Social rather than paying attention to his own vice president pick’s debate.
“The Great Pete Rose just died. He was one of the most magnificent baseball players ever to play the game,” Trump posted on Truth Social during Jd Vance’s debate with Tim Walz. “He paid the price! Major League Baseball should have allowed him into the Hall of Fame many years ago. Do it now, before his funeral!”
“Look, I want to rag on Trump, but this is why he’s so relatable. Even when it’s his vice president, he can’t watch the VP debate without looking at his phone like, ‘Let me see what’s on ESPN,'” Kosta said during Wednesday’s opening monologue.

The vice presidential debate left “The Daily Show” host Michal Kosta shocked, and it had nothing to do with either candidate’s policies. The senior correspondent expressed his surprise over Democrat nominee Tim Walz in Comedy Central’s live show following Tuesday night’s debate.
“Walz quotes a book I didn’t think Democrats had ever read. I guess it’s called the Bibble?” Kosta joked before cutting to a clip of Walz.
“I don’t talk about my faith a lot, but Matthew 25:40 talks about ‘To the least amongst us you do unto me,'” Walz said during the debate.
“Wow. Tim Walz has really stolen every Republican schtick. He’s folksy, he’s into cars, hunts, quotes the Bible,” Kosta said. “What’s next? We’re going to find out he’s the webmaster of Nude Africa dot com?”
That last zinger was a nod to North...

On Tuesday night, both The Late Show With Stephen Colbert and The Daily Show will feature live shows following the VP debate. While Stephen Colbert himself will be on hand to emcee The Late Show‘s coverage, Jon Stewart will not be on for The Daily Show. Instead, rotating guest host Michael Kosta will take the reins of Tuesday’s live show, with Stewart hosting in his usual Monday evening episode timeslot instead. The news of Stewart’s absence may serve as a surprise to some, as he previously hosted the live Daily Show episodes that took place after the debates between Donald Trump and Joe Biden, the Democratic National Convention, and Trump’s debate with Kamala Harris.
