The Young and the Restless is continuing to celebrate the show’s golden anniversary (the show turned 50 in March) with a special episode honoring the late Jerry Douglas’ character John Abbott. Even though Douglas appeared in scenes as Jack’s (Peter Bergman) conscience up until 2016, the show was never the same after John was killed off a decade earlier. Coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the long-running soap, The Young and the Restless will honor the legacy of the late Jerry Douglas with a special episode featuring his actress wife, Kym Douglas, as a brand new character. In this special episode, slated to air June 22, there will be classic flashbacks of Douglas’ John Abbott, the wealthy chairman of Jabot Cosmetics and patriarch of the Abbott family. According to CBS, the late actor’s wife will portray Zelda Wilford, someone who shares a special connection to the Abbott family. When John Abbott first joined the series, he was a single father helping his children, Jack, Ashley, and Traci, navigate adulthood. In later years, his character married Jill Foster, had another son, Billy, and was involved in many romantic entanglements with his estranged ex-wife, Dina Mergeron. Great American Community, the free direct-to-consumer app from Great American Media, has set its slate for next month’s launch with 15 original shortform series featuring well-known TV hosts, presenters and actors. The app debuts Monday, September 26, with multiple episodes of all series available on day one and new episodes premiering on regularly scheduled days throughout the year.

Series headliners include Danica McKellar, Cameron Mathison, Jill Wagner, Trevor Donovan, Debbie Matenopoulos, Lauren Makk, Kym Douglas, Larissa Wohl, Emily Hutchinson, Lawrence Zarian, Shirley Bovshow, Maria Provenzano, Jamie Tarence, Mahaila McKellar, and Lizzy Mathis. When Great American Media’s free app, Great American Community, launches on Sept. 26, it will introduce viewers to 15 original short-form series, each headlined by well-known lifestyle experts and TV stars.

On launch day, multiple episodes of all series will be available. New episodes will premiere on regularly scheduled days throughout the year, with no offseason.

“Echo,” a new MCU series starring Alaqua Cox, has begun production, Disney has announced.

The series is a spinoff of last year’s Disney+ Marvel show “Hawkeye,” which featured the debut of Cox as Maya Lopez. Created by David Mack and Joe Quesada in 1999 as a supporting character for the superhero Daredevil, Maya Lopez, aka Echo, is a deaf Cheyenne woman with Olympic level athletic skills and the ability to perfectly copy people’s movement. In “Hawkeye,” the character was depicted as the leader of the Tracksuit Mafia, a gang of criminals working under Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio). The series will see Maya leave New York for her hometown, where she reconnects with her roots and ends up at the center of a new crisis.

Jerry Douglas, the actor best known for playing patriarch John Abbott on the long-running soap opera “The Young and the Restless,” died Nov. 9 in Los Angeles after a brief illness. He was 88.

Douglas was a mainstay of CBS’ top-rated daytime serial for more than 30 years in the role of the square-jawed cosmetics magnate and pillar of “Y&r’s” fictional Genoa City. He also racked up dozens of TV guests shots and supporting roles in movies over his long career, ranging from “The Bionic Woman,” “Barnaby Jones” and “The Streets of San Francisco” to “Arrested Development,” “Cold Case” and “Melrose Place.”

Douglas was a regular on “Y&r” from 1982 to 2006. Even after his character died, Abbott appeared in flashbacks from time to time, most recently in 2006 when he returned as a ghost to guide his children from the afterlife.. “Y&r” has been a mainstay of CBS’ daytime lineup since 1973. The serial topped the 20,000-episode mark last year.

Jerry Douglas, who played patriarch John Abbott on CBS’ The Young and the Restless for more than 30 years, died November 9 after a brief illness, his family announced Wednesday. He was 88.

Born Jerry Rubenstein on November 12, 1932, in Chelsea, Ma, Douglas launched his acting career upon graduating from Brandeis University, studying acting with Uta Hagen in New York and Jeff Corey in Los Angeles.

He joined the cast of The Young and the Restless in March 1982 as John Abbott, patriarch of the Abbott family and wealthy chairman of Jabot Cosmetics. When viewers first met him, he was a single father helping children Jack, Ashley and Traci navigate adulthood.

In later years, John Abbott wed Jill Foster and they had a son, Billy. John also had several romantic reunions with estranged ex-wife, Dina Mergeron.

After almost a decade, “Home & Family” is signing off of the Hallmark Channel.

The morning show, which paused production twice amid the Covid-19 pandemic, is set to resume filming at the end of March. Now Variety has learned exclusively that that batch of episodes will be its last.

Sept 18, 2011 was decidedly not the night of the little black dress; Emmy fashions were split between sparkle and color.

Maria Bello, Elisabeth Moss, Cat Deeley, and Christina Hendricks were probably the strongest representatives of "white and sparkly." Meanwhile Lea Michele, Kate Winslet, and Kerry Washington were all wearing red, while Melissa McCarthy, Olivia Munn, and Jennifer Westfeldt looked fantastic in purple, green, and yellow, respectively. Rico Rodriguez and Laurnce Fishburne were two surprising male color additions, sporting a peacock-colored and a lilac shirt, respectively, under their suits. LL Cool J seemed to be a white and sparkly sympathizer in a very shiny white satin bow-tie and pocket square with his otherwise sedate black tux.

Mayim Bialik, Laura Linney, and Kristen Wiig went with neutrals and all but faded away amidst the sparkles and colors on the red carpet. After careful consideration we have to say that sparkle won this year's Emmy red carpet showdown.
