BioPunk is an intense short film that is set in the year 2054. It's explained that this is thirty years after a virus has devastated half the world’s population and "transformed them into something other than human." London has become an unsettling wasteland full of junk peddlers and crazy zealots. The story revolves around a hardass determined woman who is doing the best she can at taking care of her younger brother in this nightmarish world.

The short was directed by Liam Garvo and it's a great proof-of-concept short that introduces us to a world that I'd be curious to learn more about. I also want to point out that the short stars Game of Thrones actor Kristian Nairn, who played Hodor. Check it out!

Biopunk is a crowd-funded proof of concept short directed by Liam Garvo and written by Andrew Harmer (The Fitzroy). It's set in a dystopian London in 2054, where the world has been ravaged by a virus that has killed billions and caused part of the remaining population to mutate into something other than human. The film's stars include Game of Thrones' Kristian Nairn, Katie Sheridan, and Benjamin Tuttlebee, but the real stars of the piece seem to be the art department and production crew, who have meticulously created a lived-in future world brimming with bric-à-brac. Biopunk is a crowfunded dystopian thriller that stars Kristian Nairn who you may recognise Kristian from his role as Hodor in HBO's Game of Thrones. It is directed by Liam Garvo.

Set in a world devastated by a mysterious virus, the human race no longer finds itself the dominant species. Decades of infection have transformed swathes of the population. These new breeds have become known as Altereds. Corralled into ghettos and treated as second-class citizens, a fragile new world has emerged.

Dresden Pictures has acquired the UK rights to Japanese war story "Grave of the Fireflies" with plans to develop a live-action feature adaptation.

Akiyuki Nosaka's 1967 semi-autobiographical novel is set during and after the firebombing of Kobe, Japan in 1945. It follows the struggle of two orphaned Japanese children – 14 year-old Seita and his four year-old sister, Setsuko – during World War II.

The story is best known to worldwide audiences for Studio Ghibli's 1988 animated feature film adaptation helmed by Isao Takahata, an acclaimed movie that film critics and historians often cite as one of the most powerful and devastating anti-war films ever made. Japanese broadcaster Ntv produced a live action telemovie in 2005.

This however marks the first production company outside of Japan to have optioned development rights to the story. Liam Garvo and James Heath will produce and shooting aims to begin in 2014.

We bring you news of one of my most hotly anticipated projects: The Fitzroy. It's set on a submarine in an alternative, post apocalyptic 1950's and centers around a man trying to keep the submersible livable while hiding the murders committed by the woman he loves. Producer Liam Garvo says its a cross between Delicatessen and Fawlty Towers. While I've never seen Fawlty Towers, I am salivating at the thought of dry British humor confined to a leaky submarine - all in a monochrome palette. The Fitzroy is still in the developmental stages but will start it's crowdfunding in about 7 weeks. If you want to see what Garvo is capable of, just watch his incredible scifi short Breathe which played at the Sci-Fi London Film Festival (among others) in 2010. The original Steve Lisberger classic Tron is screening as part of Sci-Fi London Oktoberfest 2010 and alongside its big screen outing they’ll be an exhibition of props on exhibition. Very cool! As readers may already be aware Tron: Legacy is truly going to knock your socks off when it arrives in December.

FilmShaft has seen some footage and ‘wow’ is all we’ll say at this present time. Tron will be showing in an “exclusive 35mm screening” and they’ll be a supreme treat for fans will as they’ll be a new trailer and 8 minutes of 3D footage from Disney’s upcoming Tron: Legacy which was screened at the 2010 San Diego Comic Con!
