Producers on lookout for fresh homegrown talent as Carry On Doctors kicks off a revival of the long-running comedy series
The first Carry On movie in 25 years, Carry On Doctors, is to be released in cinemas as part of a revival of the long-running British comedy series, according to Variety.
The new instalment will be the first in a slate of new films, with producers hoping to recruit a fresh ensemble of homegrown talent to star in them. The debut instalment, not to be confused with 1968’s Carry On Doctor, will be written by Tim Dawson and Susan Nickson, best known as the writers of the BBC sitcom Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps.

Carry On Columbus was, to date, the swansong of the series, released in 1992 to little fanfare and even less acclaim. Even the box office didn’t measure up, pretty much killing the series stone dead.
Well, until now. Production is due to start later this year on a pair of new Carry On films. There’s Carry On Doctors and Carry On Campus, neither of which will feature any of the original stars of the movies (Jim Dale and Barbara Windsor are amongst the surviving names).
Tim Dawson and Susan Nickson, the pair behind Two Pints Of Lager, are penning the screenplays. The idea is to give the series a fresh start, but to keep “the old cheekiness of the past films”. A Carry On Cinematic Universe (Cocu), perhaps?...

Coming Of Age creator Tim Dawson has revealed details of the show's upcoming third series. Writing on the BBC Three blog, Dawson explained that the returning characters will be joined by someone new.
