The Librarians: The Next Chapter Season 1 Review – Bridging Eras with Spellbinding Charm
Image
The Librarians: The Next Chapter thrusts viewers into the shadowy halls of a centuries-old Annex repurposed as a Belgrade museum, where a fresh ensemble of artifact guardians wrestles with spells and smartphones alike. At its heart is Vikram Chamberlain, a 19th-century custodian abruptly yanked into 2025 by a misfired incantation—his disorientation echoes broader cultural frictions between tradition and innovation.

Under Dean Devlin’s stewardship, this spin-off honors the franchise’s heritage while embracing a monster-of-the-week rhythm that recalls the early comfort-food thrills of 1990s fantasy television.

Here, magic coexists with modernity: arcane relics share shelf space with interactive exhibits, and mathematical theorems serve as an unlikely conduit for sorcery. The tone balances earnest wonder and wry self-awareness, inviting both seasoned fans and curious newcomers to appreciate the mechanics of myth in a digital age.

Devlin’s legacy as a producer of both blockbuster spectacles and the original Librarians films infuses...

The Librarians Was Always a Hit. The Next Chapter Returns Home.
Image
There is great skepticism whenever a reboot or revival of a proven hit series is announced.

Despite being popular, some networks wait and see in the development process before handing out a formal series order.

When The CW confirmed in May 2023 that it had picked up The Librarians: The Next Chapter, it came out of the blue.

(TBS/Screenshot)

For one, the original series was canceled in 2018 by TNT after a four-season run.

There was a big push from the show’s fans and creatives to find it a new home, which sadly didn’t amount to a send-off.

(TBS/Screenshot)

Then, there’s the fact that there was little indication that CW could even afford a sci-fi series, considering it canceled the bulk of its scripted originals around that time.

Despite The Librarians: The Next Chapter being in development for the network’s 2023-2024 schedule, I was stunned when...

Superman & Lois' Final Season Gets New Premiere Date on The CW
Image
The wait for Superman & Lois Season 4 has just been shortened. The CW has rearranged its fall schedule, moving the hotly-anticipated final season of the superhero drama series from Thursday nights to Monday evenings.

Per Deadline, Superman & Lois Season 4 will debut with a two-hour premiere on Monday, Oct. 7, on The CW. The Arrowverse-adjacent series was originally scheduled to premiere on Thursday, Oct. 17. The move is believed to be in response to ABC creating a two-hour game show block on Mondays with fan-favorites Celebrity Wheel of Fortune and Press Your Luck, which would have gone head-to-head with The CW's upcoming game shows Scrabble and Trivial Pursuit. The CW's game shows will now air on Thursdays, beginning Oct. 3.

The Librarians: The Next Chapter is landing on a new home! Find out where the sequel series is heading!

It’s no secret that The CW has had its share of issues in the last few years. The sale to Nexstar has led to a new direction for the network, which involves canceling practically every original series it once had, from the Arrowverse to Walker.

The CW now appears to only want scripted fare from other countries like Canada or the UK such as Wild Cards and the upcoming Joan. Their slate is more focused on reality TV and sports.

Among the shows intended to debut this fall was The Librarians: The Next Chapter. The franchise began in 2004 with a TV movie starring Noah Wyle as a scholar whose new job at the New York Metropolitan Library is a cover for him discovering magical artifacts around the world. It was...

The Librarians: The Next Chapter: Season Two Renewal Set as Spin-off Series Moves to TNT
The Librarians: The Next Chapter has a new home. Less than a week after The CW pulled it from its fall lineup, the sequel series is headed to TNT. At that time, it was unclear if the network planned to air the sequel spin-off at a later date.

The series is a spin-off of The Librarians, which had a four-season run on before it ended in 2018. Callum McGowan, Jessica Green, Olivia Morris, Bluey Robinson, and Caroline Loncq star in the sequel series, with Christian Kane reprising his role from the original series. In the show, The Librarians are an ancient organization that's dedicated to protecting our world from a magical and fantasy-like secret reality.

“The Librarians” Returns to Its Original Network With Spinoff Series
Rebecca Romijn, Lindy Booth, Christian Kane, John Larroquette, and John Kim in The Librarians (2014)
The fantasy series “The Librarians” is making a comeback on its original network TNT. The cable channel will air a new spinoff titled “The Librarians: The Next Chapter.” This comes as a surprise, as the CW network had recently renewed the show.

Dean Devlin, executive producer of the series, got a call from Sam Linsky at TNT. Linsky worked on “The Librarians” since it started on TNT in 2004. He told Devlin that TNT missed the show. This led to talks of bringing it back. Devlin said moving the show required “a little coordination,” but everyone agreed to the change.

The deal between TNT, CW, and Electric Entertainment is unique. TNT will produce original scripted programming again after a break. Also, this makes CW a production studio for the first time. Brad Schwartz, president of CW, said fans will love the next chapter.

“The Librarians: The Next Chapter” will have two 12-episode seasons on TNT.

The Librarians’ journey has become a real page-turner.

One week after The CW confirmed that The Librarians: The Next Chapter — its continuation of the TV-movie franchise that begat a four-season TNT series — had been unceremoniously pulled from its fall schedule, the Wall Street Journal is reporting that the series has been acquired by TNT, as one small part of the cabler’s mission to beef up its depleted drama slate.

How ‘The Librarians: The Next Chapter’ Landed A Two-Season Order At TNT & Turned The CW Into A Studio
Image
The Librarians, which started as a series of three TV movies starring Noah Wyle for TNT in 2004, is heading home, twenty years later.

Earlier this morning, it emerged that The Librarians: The Next Chapter, a spinoff to the series that ran for four seasons through 2018, would air on TNT, rather than The CW, which originally greenlit the show around May 2023.

Deadline can reveal that the show has also been handed a two-season order, which includes a first season of 12 episodes that has already been shot and is currently in post-production, as well as a second season. The first season will premiere in 2025.

The move was a surprise for a number of reasons, most notably that the Warner Bros. Discovery network was returning to original scripted series, after a few years out of the game.

“It all started with a phone call I had with Sam Linsky at TNT. He’s...

Wbd Ramps Up TNT Investment With ‘The Librarians: The Next Chapter,’ CIA Miniseries
Image
After taking a $9.1 billion write-down on its linear networks business, in part due to the company’s loss of NBA rights, Warner Bros. Discovery is ramping up its investment in programming for TNT.

The cable network has greenlit “Debriefing the President” (working title), a four-hour miniseries about CIA analyst John Nixon’s 2003 interrogation of Saddam Hussein, in which he learned about the potential consequences of the invasion, the humanitarian horrors and geopolitical turbulences that would follow Saddam’s deposing.

The series is produced by Ar Content and Big Dreams Entertainment for TNT. Alexander Rodnyansky, Joel Kinnaman, Stuart Manashil, Michael Kupisk, Peter Gerwe, Shelley Browning, and Leslie Greif serve as EPs, while Cristi Bostanescu and Eric Tomosunas serve as producers and Krzysztof Skonieczny directs.

TNT has also acquired “The Librarians: The Next Chapter,” a sequel to supernatural adventure series “The Librarians.” The project was initially set to lead The CW’s 2024-25 fall season.

The spinoff series was originally slated to air on The CW this fall, but it was reported last week that the show had been pulled from the broadcaster’s schedule.

The original series aired for four seasons, while there were three entries in the film series.

No premiere date for “The Next Chapter” has been set at the time of this publishing. As with the original series and films, the show centers on the people responsible for maintaining the mythical Library, which serves as a storehouse for powerful and dangerous artifacts.

It was originally slated to debut on October 24, 2024, in the 9 p.m. slot, following Superman & Lois, but has been replaced by the new docuseries, The Wranglers. This unexpected change in the schedule has left fans wondering about the franchises future.

Noah Wyle's Potential Appearance In The Librarians Spinoff Gets Update From CW Boss
Image
The Librarians: The Next Chapter may not feature Noah Wyle, despite a conversation about potentially bringing him in for one idea. The CW executive affirms that Wyle didn't pass on any opportunity to reprise the role. So far, Christian Kane is the only confirmed original cast member who will appear in the new spinoff.

The CW boss Brad Schwartz addresses any chance of Noah Wyle's appearance in the upcoming show The Librarians: The Next Chapter. The Librarians franchise started in 2004 with three TV movies starring Wyle as the titular character, Flynn Carsen, before the direct spinoff TV show debuted on TNT in 2014. Also starring Christian Kane, Rebecca Romijn, and Lindy Booth, the show followed a secret organization that protects the world from a magical alternate reality. More than five years after the show ended, the CW announced that spinoff show The Librarians: The Next Chapter was in development with a new main cast.
