While he is currently causing Havoc on Netflix, director Gareth Evans has given a surprisingly positive outlook for fans on another of his blood-drenched action movie franchises after more than ten years. In 2014, Evans unleashed The Raid 2, an incredible symphony of violence starring Iko Uwais, Arifin Putra, Oka Antara, Tio Pakusadewo, Alex Abbad, Julie Estelle, Ryuhei Matsuda, Kenichi Endō, and Kazuki Kitamura. Regarded as one of the best action movies ever made, word about another sequel has been deathly quiet – until now.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly to promote the Tom Hardy-led Havoc, Evans addressed the chances of fans ever getting to see The Raid 3, and he initially dashed hopes by detailing how he scrapped the idea of a third movie due to the time that had passed. He said:
"I'll see when it can happen, if it can happen, is my really sort of non-committal answer to that question.

Farishad I. Latjuba’s “Wanita Ahli Neraka” (2025) is yet another addition to the ever-mounting slump of tripe-y Indonesian horror that’s inconsistent, uninspired, and relentlessly done to death. One shouldn’t expect any twinge of logic, plausibility, or emotional conviction in the film; instead, it’s hammering in its insistent dullness. The character threads are loose, scenes dangle without a shred of solid reasoning and circumstances hurtle increasingly towards wild extremes.
There are riffs here on a woman’s duty in the domestic sphere, which gets cushioned for a passage to heaven. Obeisance to her husband is the only way forward. But of course, complications soon arise. The road isn’t as clear-cut. It’s riddled with the ugliest of realizations and the need to affirm one’s agency which gets steamrolled in a patriarchally designed marriage meant more as an exercise of positive public image.

One of the greatest action movies, not just of the modern era but of all time, is now available to stream for free. That's right, you can now bear witness to martial arts and action movie mastery without spending a single cent as 2014s The Raid 2 lands on Tubi TV this month. Directed by Gareth Evans and starring Iko Uwais, Arifin Putra, Oka Antara, Tio Pakusadewo, Alex Abbad, Julie Estelle, Ryuhei Matsuda, Kenichi End, and Kazuki Kitamura, it is not hyperbolic to say that The Raid 2 is a blood-drenched symphony of violence and action movie artistry that makes most other movies of the genre look like easily defeated henchmen.
A sequel to 2011s The Raid, the Indonesian action thriller that tells the simple, isolated story of an elite squad tasked with infiltrating a high-rise building run by a ruthless drug lord, The Raid 2 picks up with Iko Uwais character,...

Whenever I talk to people from Malaysia or Indonesia, they do not fail to mention that the mainstream cinema of their countries, and essentially the most popular movies, consist mostly of horror and romantic movies. These titles are very rarely exported, to festivals for example, but it seems that in recent years, Netflix, in its constant search for context, has decided to pick up a number, thus allowing them to reach an international audience. Perhaps the reason is the success of directors like Joko Anwar, who has managed to raise the horror genre to rather high levels. Ruben Adrian attempts to do something similar with “Spirited”, by mixing horror with fantasy, in a combination that is quite popular nowadays.

Richie Mehta’s harrowing Netflix series “Delhi Crime” was the big winner at the 2nd annual Asian Academy Creative Awards in Singapore on Friday.
Representing the show, lead actress Shefali Shah was rushed off her feet as she repeatedly had to return to the stage. “Delhi Crime” earned her best actress in a leading role, best drama series and best direction, and fiction, for Mehta. Earlier, the series also won best original program by a streamer/Ott on the first night of the two-day awards.
Shah was also on stage, at Singapore’s beautifully restored historical Victoria theatre to present the inaugural award for best feature film, that went to her compatriot Zoya Akhtar’s Indian Oscar submission “Gully Boy.” Indian animated show, “Lamput,” produced for Cartoon Network was also among the winners.

Mo Brothers took a radical turn in their career after their first film, “Macabre,” which was a low-budget slasher, with “Killers,” an Indonesian-Japanese co-production with a big budget that resulted in a stylized thriller.
The story takes place at two places at the same time. In Japan, Nomura Shohei is a seemingly charming executive with a very dark side. His “hobby” is to capture, torture, and record women in his house, on videos he later uploads on the Internet. As he roams the streets in his car one night, he witnesses a young woman, Hisae, trying to kill her autistic brother by throwing him in front of a passing car, regretting the last moment. The Killers Inside Me: The Mo Bros’ International Serial Spree
Directing duo Kimo Stamboel and Timo Tjahjanto, better known as the Mo Brothers, team for the slice and dice serial killer thriller Killers, which should at least get credit for being a bit more psychologically advanced than one might otherwise assume. Produced by a variety of notables, including Gareth Evans and Sion Sono (you’d be forgiven if the hyper-choreographed bits of bloody violence didn’t remind you several times of either of those more infamous, stylized directors) and with its two leads hailing from The Raid 2, there’s certainly a core audience for this type of material from which the Mo Brothers do not deviate, though its violence as mindset motif seems to prize subtexts we often find swimming in the carnage of Sono’s films. Blood-soaked Indonesian horror-thriller hybrid Killers apes the worst aspect of serial-killer dramas like Dexter and Hannibal by pretending that elaborately repulsive acts of violence are a form of psychoanalysis of murderers' behavior. Grueling scenes of torture only overstate the obvious ties that bind Nomura (Kazuki Kitamura), a slick Japanese yuppy and self-described killer, and Bayu (Oka Antara), a disgraced journalist and accidental slayer. The movie insists it's their powerlessness that makes them murder. Nomura, a Patrick Bateman–esque psycho who slaughters defenseless women with mallets and baseball bats, attacks Bayu's friends and enemies because he's lonely and is convinced Bayu is a kindred spirit. And Bayu clumsily dons a ski mas...

Somewhere around the hour-and-ten minute mark of Killers, I recapped what had transpired and thought, “Sweet baby Jesus, what else could these maniac “Mo brothers” possibly bash me over the head with?” Violent murders, perverse lawyers, grotesque torture, acidic erasures – then I realized there was still over an hour of carnage left. Expecting more of the same serial-slashing antics, Killers happily breaks from more generic torture-porn mentalities and engages in thoughtful depictions of a “good versus evil” battle that demands blood be spilled on both fronts. All two-hours-and-seventeen minutes are utilized by the Mo brothers, with a little scripting help from Takuji Ushiyama, as their film explores the minds of mass-murderers from a visually relentless, competitive, and unsettling new light.

When Gareth Evans' The Raid: Redemption burst on to cinema screens in 2011, action movie fans rejoiced. Here was a film that relied on pure, scintillating fight choreography and inventive direction to produce one of the finest action films in years. A sequel surely beckoned, and in 2014, The Raid 2 arrived; bigger, badder and with a considerable amount of attitude.
The tower block of The Raid was merely a microcosm for the wider fight against corruption and organised crime in Jakarta and, picking up from where the first film left off, Rama (Iko Uwais) finds himself going undercover.

The Raid 2 - Sony Pictures Classics - Blu-ray and DVD Director: Gareth Evans Cast: Iko Uwais, Yayan Ruhian, Arifin Putra, Oka Antara, Tio Pakusadewo. Full cast + crew Everything you've heard about The Raid 2 is true. The action is absolutely insane, taking things to a level of ridiculous practicality that is flat-out missing from Hollywood action movies. The scope of the story is surprisingly large and dense, which in turn elevates the stakes of the action. There plenty of martial arts movies that have great action and silly plots. The Raid 2 eats those movies for breakfast. It is also quite long, the plot is possibly a bit too dense for its own good, and the violence is just insane. But complaining about those elements in this scenario is...

If you haven't yet taken the time to see The Raid: Redemption, you're missing out on one of the greatest action films of the past decade. And if you haven't seen that film, then there's a good chance you're currently missing out on the incredible sequel The Raid 2: Berandal, which is playing in theaters everywhere now (though it might have left some theaters after only a week of playing). Director Gareth Evans has plenty of things he needs to teach American action filmmakers, and now he gives us some insight into the action he likes by counting down his five favorite actions scenes, complete with footage and explanations of each. Here's director Gareth Evans counting down his five favorite action scenes with SlashFilm: The Raid 2: Berandal, the sequel to The Raid, is written and directed by Welsh born filmmaker Gareth Evans who also directed the first film. In 2012 Gareth Evans burst onto the scene with The Raid: Redemption. He took a simple concept and filled it with some of the most engaging and inventive action seen in years. Now two years later he is back at again to prove it was not a fluke. The Raid 2 shows Evans has a knack for pushing the boundaries of cinematic action. With a larger budget behind him, he ups the scale of each set-piece without hindering his cleverness. Breaking away from the simple concept of the original does lead to an overly plotting story that gets lost in its own elaborate setup. Still, any fan of the original or any fan of action would be doing themselves a huge disservice if they do not experience what...

Director Gareth Evans revolutionized the action genre in 2012 with the bone-crunching thriller The Raid: Redemption, which centered on Rama (Iko Uwais), a rookie cop who takes part in the raid of a 30-story building that houses Jakarta's most dangerous criminals. Somehow, the Indonesian filmmaker found a way to top that massive spectacle with The Raid 2, which expands nationwide April 11 following a successful limited release. Iko Uwais is back as Rama in this sequel, set just a few hours after The Raid: Redemption, as he goes deep undercover to root out the crooked cops and expose the corrupt politicians pulling the strings, to put his family out of harm's way. I recently had the chance to speak with Gareth Evans via satellite, where he revealed that he actually wrote this sequel long before he made The Raid: Redemption, while discussing how these actors actually throw real punches and kicks in this action-thriller,...

In an age where the spectacle of an action film can be purchased with CGI, the one element that pushes the evolution of action, and separates the orderly from the delightfully insane, is a sense of ambition. In multiplex context, it is the component that fueled Justin Lin in his Fast & Furious movies to elevate the significance of the entire franchise, by turning it into a showcase of stunt work and dedicated pre-planning. Chicago – Two years ago, the Indonesian film, “The Raid: Redemption”, smacked action movie fans upside the head. To briefly sum it up, it was nuts. The straight-forward plot took a backseat to some amazing stunt work, an insane amount of creative choreography and in-your-face violence. There’s no need to worry about the sequel, “The Raid 2,” not living up to the original.
..since the highly-anticipated follow up is bigger and faster and even offers an in depth story to wrap your brain around – while getting hit upside the head once again.
Rating: 4.5/5.0
Taking place a mere two hours after the previous film, we catch up with battered rookie Swat member, Rama (Iko Uwais), who’s brought in corrupt cop, Wahyu (Pierre Gruno), and is now being taken in by a mysterious group within the police force that has a specific focus. Chicago – In 2011, a new kind of martial arts film hit the screens, and wowed audiences with outrageous fight scenes, stunts and violence. “The Raid: Redemption” put Welsh filmmaker Gareth Evans – working from Indonesia – on the map, and he is back with fight choreographer and lead actor Iko Uwais in “The Raid 2.”
Expanding on the concept of the heroic Indonesian cop from the first Raid film, “The Raid 2” places him undercover in the seamy world of organized crime syndicates. Without confining itself to one location, as the first Raid did, “The Raid 2” is even more viscerally exciting and audacious, with bigger and better fights, action sequences and weird characters.
The story of Welsh Englishman Gareth Evans reinventing the Martial Arts genre was mostly by an accident of timing and place. He was hired to make a documentary in the country of Indonesia about their style of martial arts fighting,...
