British delegation set for Colombia
The British film industry is to send its biggest ever delegation to the Bogota Audiovisual Market (Bam).

Producers, distributors and festival execs are among a 29-strong British delegation that will arrive in Colombia on Monday for the fifth Bogota Audiovisual Market (Bam) (July 14-18).

The UK is the guest country at this year’s Bam, attended by more than 1,000 delegates including 250 buyers from 20 countries, as Colombia aims to increase collaboration with the British film industry.

The ambition follows rapid growth within the Colombian film sector as a result of increased government support and incentives, with the country positioning itself as a production centre in the region that is keen to attract foreign shoots.

One of the delegation is Isabel Davis, head of international at the BFI, who said: “As Colombia steps up support for its local film industry, I’m looking forward to finding out what makes Colombian filmmakers and audiences tick, and what the...

Director Jesus Franco on the set of Killer Barbys vs. Dracula (2002)
It's Bigfoot Vs. Werewolves In Savage
Director Jesus Franco on the set of Killer Barbys vs. Dracula (2002)
While monster mash-ups have a long, if not always proud, tradition (hellooo, The Asylum), someone always seems to want to reinvent the wheel. The graphic novel Savage, which features Bigfoot battling werewolves has been snapped up for a film version.Production companies Outlier and Pathbender have grabbed the rights to the Images Comics title, which was created by Jeff Frank and written by him, alongside Dan Wickline and Steve Niles (with art by Mike Mayhew). The plot for the film version focuses on a mysterious killer who targets supernatural creatures. While looking for someone with enough smarts and skills to take over his work, he lands smack dab in the middle of a battle between the crypto-zoological world’s favourite hairy beast and those legendarily hirsute menaces. They can feel free to use “The fur will fly!” as the tagline.James Cotton is set to direct the film, but The...

Exclusive: Actress Bianca Saad Talks Hansel & Gretel Get Baked
This writer hit Gower Studios in Hollywood, CA, on January 30th last year to pay a visit to the set of director Duane Journey’s Hansel & Gretel Get Baked and while there chatted with one of the feature’s players, actress Bianca Saad. Read on for her take on the project and a new still.

Written by first-time feature screenwriter David Tillman and starring Twilight actor Michael Welch as “Hansel,” Molly C. Quinn as “Gretel” (see our previous interview with Molly here) and Lara Flynn Boyle (Men in Black II, “Twin Peaks”) as “Agnes” the witch, the film (formerly known as Black Forest: Hansel and Gretel & The 420 Witch) revolves around the latter character, a centuries old crone who lives in Pasadena, California, and lures teens into her house with a special blend of marijuana in order to eat the adolescents in an effort to maintain her own youth and beauty.

Exclusive Interview: Eric England and Ace Marrero talk Madison County
Madison County was released this week on DVD and I had a chance to speak with director/writer Eric England and co-star/producer Ace Marrero. During our talk, I learned about the inspiration for the film, the difficulties of financing an indie horror film, and their next project:

How did this project come together and what was your inspiration?

Eric: I grew up in Arkansas and visited Madison County because my grandfather lived there. Based on my experiences and little encounters with people, I decided to embellish them for a horror film. The more I wrote, the more people identified with it. Ace was the first person I sent the script to in early 2009. From there we just tried to get it made and it came together in 2010.

Ace, what was your relationship with Eric before you worked on the project together?

Ace: I auditioned for Eric’s thesis film...

At this point, perhaps we can officially declare Eminem's comeback to be complete. He's already got the year's best-selling album (and a pair of the biggest singles), and now, well, he's the most-nominated artist of the 53rd annual Grammy Awards.

On Wednesday night (December 1), Em picked up a staggering 10 Grammy nods, including Song and Record of the Year (for "Love the Way You Lie") and Album of the Year (for Recovery, which is also up for Rap Album of the Year). He also scored noms for Best Rap Solo Performance (for "Not Afraid"), Pop Collaboration With Vocals (for his turn on B.o.B's "Airplanes Part II") and Best Rap Song (for "Lie").

Following (not so) closely behind him is Bruno Mars, who landed seven nominations, followed by Jay-z,...
