The romantic drama, based on Sherryl Woods' novels of the same name, premiered on Netflix in 2020. The series released its most recent season on Feb. 6, 2025, and Netflix renewed Sweet Magnolias for Season 5. The new season is currently in production, and Tudum officially revealed that Season 5 will welcome new additions, including The Sopranos' Jamie-Lynn Sigler.

In the hit HBO series, which aired from 1999 to 2007, Sigler played Meadow Soprano, Tony's firstborn child. Since then, she starred in several other series, most recently in Big Sky. Now, she has lined up a new role in Sweet Magnolias.

Fox announced late Tuesday that it had canceled Fantasy Island.

The news broke less than 24 hours after the Fantasy Island Season 2 finale.

"We were very pleased with Fantasy Island's fun and escapist creative, which we had hoped would gain strong traction among viewers," the network said in a statement, adding:

"We'd also like to thank Fantasy Island's cast, led by Roselyn Sánchez, Kiara Barnes and John Gabriel Rodriquez, crew and executive producers Liz Craft, Sarah Fain and Anne Clements for their partnership on the series."

Fantasy Island averaged 2.8 million viewers and a 0.3 rating in its final season with Live + 7 playback included.

The numbers were very soft for Fox, but the fact that the show had a small group of series regulars meant there was a chance the show could survive.

Fox greenlit the contemporary version of the classic drama series in 2021. The series, which takes place at a luxury resort, starred Roselyn Sanchez stars as Elena Roarke, a descendant of the original series’ enigmatic Mr. Roarke.

The series was done under a low-cost business model, so its threshold for success was lower. But Fox still decided to have the sun set on its summer series.

Fox’s reboot of Fantasy Island kicks off its second season on Monday, January 2, 2023 at 8pm Et/Pt with Roselyn Sanchez back as Elena Roarke. Elena is a descendant of the iconic Mr. Roarke played by Ricardo Montalban in the original ’70s series. Kiara Barnes (The Bold and the Beautiful) is also returning as Ruby Akuda and John Gabriel Rodriguez (Rosewood) is back as Javier.

Two Desperate Housewives alums are headed to Fox's Fantasy Island.

Teri Hatcher and James Denton have both landed guest-starring roles on the third episode of Fantasy Island Season 2, according to The Futon Critic.

"Empty nesters Dolly (Hatcher) and Dutch (Denton) seek clarity on how to spend their next chapter," reads the official logline for the episode.

"Meanwhile, Helene (recurring Alexa Mansour) helps Ruby (Barnes) tap into her newfound youth. Javier (Rodriquez) opens up to Roarke (Sánchez) as he wrestles with his new role," it continues.

Hatcher played Susan Mayer on all eight seasons of Desperate Housewives, starring opposite Denton, who played her love interest, Mike Delfino.

Desperate Housewives wrapped its run in 2012.

However, the two stars reunited on Hallmark last year for A Kiss Before Christmas as part of the cabler's annual Countdown to Christmas Event.

It was their first on-screen reunion since wrapping on the beloved ABC primetime soap.

AMC released the trailer for its upcoming original series, “Dark Winds.” Based on the “Leaphorn & Chee” books by Tony Hillerman, the noir thriller premieres June 12 on AMC and AMC+ with its first two episodes and a new episode each Sunday thereafter.

“Dark Winds” takes place in 1971, on a secluded outpost of the Navajo Nation near Monument Valley, Ariz. The series follows Tribal Police Lieutenant Joe Leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon) as he is overcome by a string of what seem to be completely unrelated crimes. But, as he gets closer to the truth, the more he is visited by the wounds of his past. His new deputy, Jim Chee (Kiowa Gordon), joins him on the journey, and he, too, has scores to settle from his years on the reservation as a young man. The two men join forces in the battle against evil, themselves and their demons as they travel the path to salvation.

Fox will ring in the summer with a lineup filled with dance, music, tasty dishes and more. On Tuesday the network revealed the premiere dates for Duncanville (May 1)So You Think You Can Dance (May 18), Don’t Forget The Lyrics! (May 23), Beat Shazam (May 23), MasterChef (May 25), Lego Masters (May 31) and Fantasy Island (May 31).

So You Think You Can Dance will return after nearly three years on Wednesday, May 18 at 9 p.m Et/Pt to feature a new class of talented performers. The dance competition series, which will follow the Season 7 finale of the Masked Singer, will welcome back host Cat Deeley and touts a judging panel featuring Stephen “tWitch’” Boss, JoJo Siwa and Matthew Morrison.

Fantasy Island briefly returned to Fox on Thursday with a two-part Christmas special, much of which focused on Elena’s golden retriever Mr. Jones. In his previous life as a human, “Nathan” was apparently big in the medical world, working alongside his wife and best friend to develop life-saving technologies. But when his faulty designs were blamed for several deaths in a trial, Nathan ran away to Fantasy Island, where he… you know… turned into a dog.

Fantasy Island fans will see more of Javier during season two of the series. John Gabriel Rodriquez is now a series regular on the drama, reports Deadline.

His character is in charge of getting the guests to and from the island. "Rugged, handsome, and charismatic, Javier (Rodriquez) is Fantasy Island’s head of transport – a pilot, mechanic, and jack of all trades. Fox is keeping Fantasy Island open for business. Not only has the reboot been renewed for a second season in 2022, but fans will also return to the iconic locale even earlier with a two-hour holiday special next month, TVLine has learned.

Titled “Welcome to the Snow Globe,” the festive episode (Dec. 21, 8/7c) guest-stars Lindsey Kraft (Grace and Frankie) as a busineswoman whose “fantasy of a perfect Christmas and meeting ‘Mr. Right’ tests Roarke in unexpected ways. Meanwhile, Mr. Jones faces his past, while a new Secret Santa tradition has Ruby and Javier looking to the future,” according to the official logline.

Fox is hot on Fantasy Island.

The network is considering a second season of the summer drama series, which is a reboot of the 1977 original.

Fox Entertainment President Michael Thorn told Deadline that as its “first real, recent attempt at a cost effective” drama series, the network and producers Sony Pictures Television are “really proud of it”.

Thorn said that the series, which premiered to a 0.4 in 18-49 and 1.97M viewers, “held its own this summer”. “We’re really high on it and it’s been exciting for us to cross pollinate some of the stars that we have in other series and do other exciting turns on Fantasy Island. We definitely see a potential second season and it’s something that we’re talking about now. We’re very pleased with the show and Liz [Craft] and Sarah [Fain] did a very good job,” he said,
