The psychedelic Folk Horror features The Other Side Of The Forest and Beyond The Speed Of Life are to be released on physical media and streaming this summer.

The Other Side Of The Forest

“The Other Side Of The Forest” is a fantasy Pop-Art Fairytale directed by Grant McPhee and starring Lori Stott (BBC’s The Demon Headmaster) and Ashley Sutherland (Night Kaleidoscope).

It is the story of a shy young woman seeking her fame in the dark world of the 1960s folk-music underground. Lori’s journey to stardom takes her on an adventure far beyond the music world she is trying to break into, and instead she travels far beyond her reality to a forgotten past of rural landscapes, magic, myth, dead Gods and mysterious fallen angels.

Maniff 2019: ‘Far From The Apple Tree’ Review
Stars: Sorcha Groundsell, Victoria Liddelle, Lynsey-Anne Moffat, Margaret Fraser, Adrienne-Marie Zitt, Scarlett Mack | Written by Ben Soper | Directed by Grant McPhee

Directed by Grant McPhee (Night Kaleidoscope), low budget horror Far From The Apple Tree stars Sorcha Groundsell as Judith, a young artist who takes a job as the live-in assistant to acclaimed visual artist Roberta Roslyn (Victoria Liddelle), with the promise of her own show at some point in the future. Moving into Roberta’s spacious rural mansion, Judith begins cataloguing her idol’s work, which is closely linked to the occult. However, she becomes increasingly unsettled after encountering images of Roberta’s missing daughter, Maddy, who appears to be Judith’s exact double.

There are plenty of creepy ideas in Ben Soper’s screenplay, and the film toys with intriguing themes such as artistic obsession, usurpation and possession. However, the script only ends up scratching the surface of those ideas,...

Edinburgh 2015: 'Big Gold Dream' review
★★★☆☆ All set to find an appreciative audience on BBC Four's long-running Storyville strand, Big Gold Dream: Scottish Post-Punk and Infiltrating the Mainstream (2015) - which premièred at this year's Edinburgh International Film Festival - takes a pleasant and interesting trip down memory lane, specifically to the late 1970s where punk and post-punk where making a name for themselves in Edinburgh. Spearheaded by director Grant McPhee, who spent over ten years collecting reviews with different bands and figureheads from that particular time period, this is well-knitted together documentary that's deserving of an audience who can reminisce about a time past.

2010 Boston Underground Film Festival: Official Lineup
The teasing is over! This here is the real deal. The moment we wait all year for: The lineup for the powerful, the mighty Boston Underground Film Festival, which is set to run March 25 to April 1. Now in its 12th year, Buff shows no sign of slowing down or taking it easy. In fact, this might be their most demented and transgressive edition yet.

There are homages to Giallo horror, tributes to the grand grindhouse tradition of sleaze and exploitation, sex and violence galore — both separately and together — plus, a resurrected ’80s slasher classic that all combine into an epic celebration of everything that is vicious and twisted in this world. But, in a fun way, ya know.

Alas, I haven’t seen any of the feature films that are playing this year, so I can’t offer any special recommendations of those. Although, there are many (most) that I...
