Casting continues on the upcoming Friday the 13th television series “Crystal Lake,” with filming on the project underway as we speak. The series from Peacock and A24 is set to be an expanded prequel to the original slasher classic from 1980, and that’s been reflected by many of the casting announcements that have been hitting our desk in recent weeks.
Callum Vinson is playing a young Jason Voorhees in the series, with Linda Cardellini starring as Mrs. Voorhees. Cameron Scoggins is playing Dorf, also a character from the original Friday the 13th, with Nick Cordileone as “Crazy Ralph,” Danielle Kotch as Claudette, and Phoenix Parnevik as Barry, all characters from that original movie.
The fan website Friday the 13th Franchise additionally reports today that Nancy Nagrant has joined the cast as Kay Christy, a relative of Steve Christy from Friday the 13th (1980)!

If you’ve ever whispered “Kill her, Mommy” under your breath while chopping vegetables, this one’s for you.
For fans of the original Friday the 13th — especially those of us who worship the first two films — Peacock’s upcoming series Crystal Lake might be the most exciting horror revival on the horizon. And while it’s taken a few machete swings behind the scenes, the project is alive, bloody, and officially filming in New Jersey.
Here’s everything we know so far about the return to the woods that started it all…

2025 marks the 45th anniversary of the release of one of the most popular horror movies ever made, Friday the 13th, the movie that launched my favorite franchise, and one that I feel is underrated, as it’s a great film that often gets overshadowed by its sequels. Last year, the Friday the 13th franchise rights holders at Horror Inc. announced that they were launching the Jason Universe, which would encompass “new Friday the 13th activations that will span a wide range of platforms from entertainment, games, immersive experiences, merchandise and more to be announced @JasonUniverse13 on social media or by visiting the official Jason Universe website.” Now, they’ve shared some information on what’s ahead for the franchise at a San Diego Comic-Con panel, unveiling a teaser trailer for the vignette Sweet Revenge from writer/director Mike P. Nelson (Wrong Turn) and a panel-exclusive message from the set of Crystal Lake,...

On Halloween of 2022, it was announced that original Friday the 13th screenwriter Victor Miller – fresh off winning the U.S. copyright to the 1980 film after a lawsuit that stretched on for years – was teaming up with his lawyer Marc Toberoff, franchise rights holder Rob Barsamian, production company A24, the Peacock streaming service, and showrunner Bryan Fuller (whose credits include Hannibal and Pushing Daisies) to develop a new Friday the 13th streaming series called Crystal Lake. Things were moving ahead at a good pace, filming was expected to begin last July, but then the project hit a speed bump at the end of April with the firing of Fuller and his frequent collaborator Jim Danger Gray. Jason lives…again. Everyone’s favorite sex-hating, machete-wielding, unstoppable supernatural serial killer is coming to the small screen in his first TV series, Crystal Lake, a prequel to the Friday the 13th franchise – but he will not be quite as monstrous as you remember him. After more than a decade in limbo, the franchise that wanted to tap into the slasher vein opened by several 70s movies, including the mostly slash-free Halloween, is finally overcoming its torrid legal battles and actually producing more content. And the A24 series has now secured its new Jason Voorhees actor.
Unlike his nightmare-making sparring partner, Freddy Krueger, Jason has always been interchangeable when it comes to who plays him thanks to his hockey mask and increasingly decomposed face. However, everyone has their favorite Jason, with many citing Kane Hodder as the best person to ever embody the character after playing in four movies and a video game.

Deadline (via FearHQ.com) has revealed that A24's Crystal Lake TV series has found its Jason Voorhees in Chucky and Long Bright River star Callum Vinson. The actor, born in 2014, will play the child version of the terrifying serial killer, as the show shifts the spotlight to his mother, Linda Cardellini's Pamela Voorhees.
It's previously been reported that Pamela will be portrayed as a mother who gave up a singing career to raise a special needs child. Things take a dark turn when Jason drowns at summer camp—the titular "Crystal Lake"—prompting Pamela to go on a killing spree, making the camp counsellors pay for their negligence.
However, when the young Jason witnesses one of the camp counsellors decapitating his mom, he's inspired to go on a murder spree of his own. There's a supernatural element to the character, but it's thought he survived that apparent drowning...

The Friday the 13th prequel series that’s in the works at Peacock with A24, just slashed out of the woods with a major update. Deadline reports that Callum Vinson, best known for his role as Henry Collins in the Chucky franchise, has joined the cast of Crystal Lake as a young Jason Vorhees. Vinson’s role will reportedly be in the guest capacity, featuring only briefly — the project is about Jason’s mother, Pamela Vorhees. Linda Cardellini has been tapped to play the featured role of Pamela in the series. The new show is set in Crystal Lake, and it will follow Pamela as she goes on a violent killing spree after watching her son drown in the lake. Jason watches his mother lose her head to end her killing spree, which is what leads him down his own murderous path.

Crystal Lake, the Friday the 13th prequel series taking shape at Peacock, has cast the actor playing Jason — who will not be fitted with a hockey mask anytime soon.
Callum Vinson (Long Bright River, The Night Agent) will play the young Jason in the show. He’s one of five actors who have joined the cast in recurring roles, along with Nick Cordileone, Joy Suprano, Danielle Kotch and Phoenix Parnevik.
The A24-produced Crystal Lake stars Linda Cardellini as Pamela Voorhees, Jason’s mother, who (45-year-old spoiler alert) is responsible for the killings in the first Friday the 13th movie before her unkillable son Jason takes over. William Catlett, Devin Kessler, Cameron Scoggins and Gwendolyn Sundstrom will also be series regulars, playing characters named Levon Brooks, Briana Brooks, Dorf and Grace. Details about those characters and the show’s plot are being kept quiet.
Cordileone (Warrior) will play a character named Ralph.

The film opens on Jay (Tyler Ivey), frontman of a punk outfit whose last gig feels centuries ago. Their manager, Aj (Darrin Hickok), convenes the crew—John, Menace, Juan—and their partners, Val and Jen, to consider a lifeline: a free music-video shoot funded by a mysterious online suitor. That suitor, Mister Director (Louis Lombardi), awaits them at an isolated Pennsylvania estate draped in peeling elegance.
This isn’t your typical slasher setup; it’s a collision of adolescent ambition and old-world decay. I’m reminded of the outsider spirit in John Carpenter’s early work, where music and menace share the same pulse. Here, the film alternates between rehearsal-room banter and sudden dips into shadow-lit corridors, teasing both camaraderie and threat.

Films like Rock ‘n’ Roll Nightmare, PussyCake, and Blood Tracks have paved the way in this subgenre. Now, writer/director Don Capria brings his own spin to the concept with Director’s Cut – not to be confused with the 2016 Adam Rifkin/Penn Jillette film of the same name.

On tonight's new episode Person of Interest episode, Finch, Reese and especially Shaw will come face-to-face with someone who challenges them in a brand new way.
And that someone is a 10-year old girl.
In “Razgover" - written by David Slack - Samantha Shaw is tasked with watching over Genrika (played by Danielle Kotch), who The Machine has identified as the latest Person of Interest. Turns out, the kid has some mad surveillance skills, which Shaw realizes could be the reason her number has come up.
I was on the New York set this summer during the shooting of this episode and got a preview from Sarah Shahi and Michael Emerson in between shooting scenes.
“This is pretty much my turn at being Jean Reno in The Professional,” Shahi said, referencing the 1994 movie that launched the career of then-child Natalie Portman. “Shaw and this 10-year-old girl are paired up together...

If there ever was a better reason not to do meth other than Breaking Bad, it would be Junction. Not only are you dealing with off the wall meth addicts and their emotions, but you’re subconsciously forced to endure the pain the characters are going through and that’s when you realized just how messed up things are.
Junction is written and directed by Tony Glazer and stars Harris Doran, Summer Crockett Moore, Neal Bledsoe, Anthony Rapp, Bryan Deehring and more. As part of the competition films at the First Time Fest, the film was in the running for a number of awards, and Neal Bledsoe won the Outstanding Achievement in Acting award “for the ferocity of the performance, and...

Chicago – We have forgotten what it’s like to be scared by an actually scary movie. “Sinister” – from producer Jason Blum (“Insidious” and all four “Paranormal Activity” films) – is the first film in 2012 to remind us.
Rating: 4.5/5.0
More terrifying than “Insidious” and any of the “Paranormal Activity” films, “Sinister” is beautifully diabolical even without trickery. Instead of attempting to earn your fear by being very loosely based on a true story (like “The Possession”) and while steering seriously clear of a flop (like “The Apparition”) that’s as scary as George Bush trying to run our country, “Sinister” remembers what makes hair-raising films actually curdle your blood.
Like “The Shining,” “Misery,” “The Exorcist” and “Jaws” played on people’s mental fears without fancy effects as patchwork for weak material, the modern-day “Sinister” captures the most scary element of “The Ring” and “The Cabin in the Woods”: voyeurism.
