John Boyega's Torn From the Headlines Thriller Is a Sleeper Hit on Netflix
Image
Star John Boyega has had a tremendous post-Star Wars run. After playing Finn in the sequel trilogy, Boyega headlined a string of well-reviewed genre films, returning to his roots. He broke out with a charming lead role in the British science-fiction film Attack the Block, before being cast in one of the lead roles in Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens. Among his recent films is the drama-thriller Breaking, which was released theatrically in 2022, following a premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. The fact-based movie was compared to the Al Pacino classic Dog Day Afternoon, and earned excellent reviews. Although it didn't make much of a dent at the box office, Breaking is climbing up the streaming charts following its debut on Netflix.

According to FlixPatrol, Breaking was the ninth-most-watched film on Netflix worldwide on August 5. It outperformed An Honest Life, and finished just behind Gladiator II. The...

Must See Trailer for NYC Romance 'Love, Brooklyn' with André Holland
Image
"You have any evening plans?" Greenwich Entertainment has unveiled the official trailer for an indie film titled Love, Brooklyn, which first premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year to many warm reviews. It's now set for release in theaters at the end of August with more screens during September. A writer in Brooklyn navigates complicated relationships with his ex, an art gallery owner, and his current lover, a newly-single mother,, with the support of his best friend. A modern romance set against the rapidly changing landscape of Brooklyn, New York. It's one of my favorite films from Sundance (here's my glowing review) touching upon many aspects of NYC life - from gentrification to relationships and everything else. Starring André Holland, with Nicole Beharie and DeWanda Wise as his two lovers, plus Roy Wood Jr., Cassandra Freeman, and Cadence Reese. Executive produced / mentored by Steven Soderbergh as director Rachael Holder's feature debut.

Love, Brooklyn Trailer: André Holland Navigates Modern Romance
Image
Living up to its title, Rachael Abigail Holder’s Love, Brooklyn is a lovely romance that finds André Holland navigating modern relationships. Also starring Nicole Beharie, DeWanda Wise, Roy Wood Jr., Cassandra Freeman, and Cadence Reese, the Sundance premiere was picked up by Greenwich Entertainment. Ahead of a release at NYC’s Angelika beginning August 29, followed by a nationwide release on September 5, the first trailer has now arrived.

Here’s the synopsis: “A writer navigates complicated relationships with his ex, an art gallery owner, and his current lover, a newly-single mother, with the support of his best friend. A modern romance set against the rapidly changing landscape of Brooklyn, New York. A Sundance premiere.”

Jake Kring-Schreifels said in his Sundance review, “You can feel the warm breeze filtering through Love, Brooklyn, a gentle, dream-like summer movie that often teeters on the edge of reality. Rachael Abigail Holder’s debut feature,...

André Holland Navigates Sex, Life and Romance in ‘Love, Brooklyn’ Trailer | Exclusive
Image
New York City has never looked lovelier in the first trailer for filmmaker Rachael Abigail Holder’s sensual romantic drama “Love, Brooklyn,” which TheWrap can exclusively reveal in the video above.

Written by Paul Zimmerman, the film stars André Holland as a writer navigating his complicated relationships with his gallery owner ex (Nicole Beharie) and his single-mother current lover (DeWanda Wise), all with the support of his best friend (Roy Wood Jr.).

The indie had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year and was scooped up by Greenwich Entertainment, which is releasing “Love, Brooklyn” in New York on Aug. 29 and in theaters nationwide on Sept. 5.

Getting the film made was a challenge, as producer and star Holland told TheWrap at Sundance in January.

“We had this script and were out to all the places that everyone goes to to get financing. People just, I think, didn’t share the vision.

Deep-Fake Dilemmas Await in “The Morning Show” Season 4
Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon in The Morning Show (2019)
Apple TV+ signalled another jolt of newsroom intrigue on Wednesday, releasing the first teaser for season four of its flagship drama “The Morning Show” and pinning a 17 September global premiere on the calendar. The 40-second clip, laced with glitchy deep-fake imagery and ominous headlines, sets up a ten-episode run that will stream weekly until 19 November.

The new season is set in spring 2024, nearly two years after season three’s tumultuous finale. With the long-rumoured merger between Uba and rival cable outlet Nbn now complete, anchors Alex Levy (Jennifer Aniston) and Bradley Jackson (Reese Witherspoon) must navigate fresh corporate alliances, political landmines and an audience increasingly unsure of what to trust. “We get into the world of deep-fakes and AI and the fog of misinformation… Can you trust what you’re seeing?” showrunner Charlotte Stoudt said, hinting that technology itself will become a new antagonist.

‘The Morning Show’ Season 4 Teaser: Aniston and Witherspoon Walk into a Hall of Secrets
Image
“The Morning Show” is back this fall, and from the looks of the new teaser, things are going to get even more intense. Season 4 of the Apple TV+ drama drops on September 17, and this time it’s all about artificial intelligence, deepfakes, and the blurred lines between truth and lies.

The show has always pulled from real-world events, and this season is no different. Past seasons tackled the pandemic and the January 6 insurrection. Now, AI takes the spotlight, raising some big questions about what’s real and who can be trusted. The official logline from Apple says the Uba and Nbn networks have finished their merger, and now the team has to deal with “newfound responsibility, hidden motives and the elusive nature of truth in a polarized America.” It also warns of “deepfakes, conspiracy theories and corporate cover-ups.”

In the teaser, Jennifer Aniston’s Alex walks along a row of windows.

Jennifer Aniston's 67% Rotten Tomatoes Apple TV+ Twisty Drama Returns With Tense Season 4 Trailer
Image
With just two months until the premiere of The Morning Show, it's finally time to start getting hyped up for the newest season of the hit series. Today, Apple TV+ unveiled a teaser trailer for Season 4, and it showcases all the major players of the next installment of the show. The release date is set for September 17, and once again Jennifer Aniston (Friends) and Reese Witherspoon (Big Little Lies) return as two cutthroat journalists who both shape and are impacted by the culture of a fast-moving newsroom.

The teaser trailer doesn't reveal much in terms of story, and also provides no sneak peek of the scenes that we're about to witness in Season 4. Instead, it focuses on the intrigue and how the show will continue to be a war in which the weapons are narratives, manipulation, moral conflict, and bottom lines. The concept is pretty simple: Alex Levy (Aniston) and...

‘Morning Show’ Season 4 Teaser: Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon Juggle Conflicting Opinions Post-Merger
Image
After two years Apple TV+’s flagship series “The Morning Show” will return to the streamer this September, and this time Bradley Jackson (Reese Witherspoon) and Alex Levy (Jennifer Aniston) are facing heightened responsibilities and scrutiny from the public.

The fourth season, which was delayed by SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes in 2023, jumps ahead two years to take place in spring 2024. The Uba-nbn merger was finalized after Alex successfully usurped her tech billionaire love interest, Paul Marks (Jon Hamm), and blocked his potential acquisition of the network. Now, the newsroom faces a new challenge in appealing to the public as truth is constantly in question and the country is more polarized than ever.

“We have to question everything we see and we hear now more than ever,” Aniston said in the Season 4 teaser.

Bradley and Alex strut against a reflective office building as their own inner monologues play aloud. Bradley, who...

‘The Morning Show’ Season 4 Promises the Exact Drama You Crave
Image
Television, news, and media are in crisis — and what better vessel to comment on that state of affairs than Apple’s “The Morning Show” Season 4?

In a teaser for the upcoming installment of Jay Carson’s drama series from showrunner Charlotte Stoudt, Alex (Jennifer Aniston) and Bradley (Reese Witherspoon) are back at their daily wars with the audience, the network, their colleagues, and each other. Picking up almost two years after its predecessor, the ten-episode fourth season starts out in spring of 2024, just a few months before a fateful U.S. Presidential election that would change the course of history.

From an Apple press release: “In a world rife with deepfakes, conspiracy theories and corporate cover-ups — who can you trust? And how can you know what’s actually real?” The teaser of Alex and Bradley walking past a reflective wall in slow motion looks deliberately artificial as a result — to...

Everything to know before 'The Morning Show' Season 4 hits Apple TV+
Image
Deepfakes, AI, and a messy merger set the stage for another explosive season.

I’ve been hooked on “The Morning Show” from the word go. I mean, come on, that first season featured Steve Carell teaming up with Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston for a sharp, behind-the-scenes drama about morning news? I was all in before the first episode even aired. And honestly, this is kind of Apple TV+’s whole deal: take massive talent, throw them into big, complicated stories, and let the sparks fly. Every season has been messy in the best way — full of power plays, bad decisions, and people trying (and failing) to do the right thing. Now with Season 4 dropping Wednesday, Sept. 17, we’re in for another wild ride. Let’s break it all down. Here’s everything to know about “The Morning Show” Season 4.

The State of the Race

This year, the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series race is the most brutal acting category. “The White Lotus” Season 3 alone could fill all eight nomination slots, and there is an argument to be made that it’s deserved. Tyler Perry’s Straw (2025) is a raw and emotionally charged Netflix thriller that dives headfirst into the devastating spiral of poverty, systemic neglect, and racial injustice in America. Sundance 2025 Films Sold So Far: Cooper Raiff’s Indie TV Series ‘Hal & Harper’ Goes to Mubi

Sundance didn’t have the plethora of late night bidding wars we used to see in the good old days of the festival, but a number of buzziest titles are actually closing deals late into the spring and into the early summer. 'The Morning Show' Season 4 Finally Sets Release Date With First Images Two Years After Season 3 Finale
Image
It's been a long hiatus, but the wait for Season 4 of The Morning Show is almost over. Today, Apple TV+ finally revealed when the new episodes are coming. Keeping up with its fall tradition, the drama is returning on September 17. Along with the release date, the streamer also unveiled some first-look images that tease the events of the upcoming season. Season 4 of The Morning Showwill be as tense as ever. This time, the series will tackle themes like deepfakes, conspiracy theories, and corporate cover-ups, as well as how all of those concepts converge with journalism. Alex Levy (Jennifer Aniston) and Bradley Jackson (Reese Witherspoon) will also have to deal with two major events: the aftermath of the Uba-Nbn merger — which completely changes the atmosphere of the newsroom into a less transparent environment — and the bigger picture of a polarized America, which makes the concept of "truth" become elusive at best.

Morgan Freeman's Underrated Sci-Fi Anthology Series Is Perfect For Black Mirror Fans
Image
A sci-fi anthology series and a stacked cast might seem like a match made in heaven, as is the case with Charlie Brooker's "Black Mirror." The Netflix series has featured everyone from Peter Capaldi to Miley Cyrus, leveraging a wide range of performances that underline dystopian stories about technology and its hold over humanity. Although not every "Black Mirror" episode comes with a prescient or timely commentary about the state of the world, the series has undoubtedly set a standard for television anthologies that dabble in speculative sci-fi.

However, not every genre offering with a talented A-list cast succeeds in making a mark, as some only manage to convey an abstract sense of scope without any meaning attached to it. David Weil's "Solos" is the perfect example of such hollowness, where its critique of technology comes exclusively in the form of episodic monologues. This isn't a terrible idea on paper,...

All 34 ‘Black Mirror’ episodes ranked, including ‘USS Callister: Into Infinity’ and ‘Eulogy’
Image
Every new season of Black Mirror launches a feverish debate over which episode was the best. Emmy voters gave three consecutive Best TV Movie awards to "San Junipero" (2017), "USS Callister" (2018), and "Bandersnatch" (2019), but how does the entire fandom rate the best and worst installments? We've consulted the cumulative IMDb scores for all seasons and have come up with the definitive ranking of Black Mirror episodes. Can you guess the No. 1 choice?

Season 7 was released in April 2025 and brought the total number of episodes and specials to 34. Created by Charlie Brooker, the sci-fi anthology series began on the U.K.'s Channel 4 in 2011 before moving to Netflix (and becoming a worldwide phenomenon) in 2016. The show took a four-year break after Season 5, thanks in part to the worldwide Covid-19 pandemic, but that just gave people even more time to relive their favorite episodes from the beginning.

Newsflash! The Disposal of Female Leads Doesn’t “Rebrand” Series; It Kills Them
Image
Ah, there’s nothing I love more than when a series up and decides that after so long of promoting a series with dual leads, one of them a woman, they’ll randomly go in another direction and kill the woman off in the process.

And by “love,” obviously, I mean I hate it. It’s such a problematic and frustrating ordeal that I find it insulting to the audience, yet networks dip into this well frequently.

The latest to partake in this particular bad habit is Alert: Mpu.

(David Johnson/Fox, Bettina Strauss/Fox)

Here’s the thing: If there was a narrative reason for a prominent death in a series, then obviously, that’s fine. It devastates viewers, of course, but when it’s instrumental to the story arc and what comes next, most viewers are more than willing to roll with it.

However, that isn’t what happens most of the time.

Sundance 2025 Review: Love, Brooklyn, Performance-Led Romantic Triangle Engages, Enthralls, Entertains
Image
A catch-all phrase popularized over a decade ago by Meta (formerly Facebook), “It’s complicated,” meant to describe romantic relationships that didn’t fall into one particular category or another, finds its clearest, nearest, and obviously it’s most recent application in director Rachael Abigail Holder’s sweetly optimistic, sharply insightful, emotionally resonant feature-length debut, Love, Brooklyn. Love, Brooklyn centers on a trio of 30-something Black Brooklynites, Roger (André Holland), a perpetually procrastinating magazine writer; Casey (Nicole Beharie), an art gallery owner and Roger’s ex; and Nicole (DeWanda Wise), the new woman and possibly long-term partner in Roger’s life. Roger faces an all-important deadline on a major essay on Brooklyn, past, present, and future. Despite the financial success of her art gallery, Casey...

Love, Brooklyn Review: The Subtle Elegance of a City in Flux
Image
In Love, Brooklyn, Rachael Abigail Holder explores hesitation, desire, and stagnation against Brooklyn’s changing landscape. The protagonist, Roger, played by André Holland, exists between his past with Casey and a potential future with Nicole, a single mother sharing his emotional complexity.

Through late-night encounters and bike rides across empty streets, Roger’s relationships reveal his internal conflict: the tension between remembrance and necessary transformation.

The film’s narrative explores the quiet emotional state of a city emerging from isolation, reflecting the characters’ personal challenges. The urban environment becomes a metaphor for personal transition—both challenging and inevitable.

Roger, Casey, and Nicole are connected by unresolved emotions, struggling to progress while clinging to familiar pain. Their journey represents survival in a shifting world that demands adaptation despite deep-rooted hesitations. The city emerges as a dynamic entity, continuously pulling characters toward an uncertain future they resist yet cannot escape.

The Quiet...

‘Love, Brooklyn’ Review: André Holland, Nicole Beharie and DeWanda Wise Carry a Simmering Romantic Drama
Image
A love letter to the the people and places of the New York borough for which it’s named, “Love, Brooklyn” is also a showcase for the talents of its three attractive lead actors. In this entry at Sundance’s US dramatic competition, Andre Holland, Nicole Beharie and DeWanda Wise play upwardly mobile creative New Yorkers in a complicated love triangle. First-time filmmakers, director Rachael Abigail Holder and screenwriter Paul Zimmerman weave a low-key romantic odyssey that simmers with intimate heat while acting as a loving character study of the beloved, always evolving neighborhood.

Casey (Beharie) and Roger (Holland) used to be an item but are now just friends. Or are they? They seem to still carry a torch for each other and treasure the time they spend together. At the same time, Roger’s casual fling with grieving widow Nicole (Wise) takes a turn for the serious when her...

Sundance Review: Love, Brooklyn Traces a Tender Romance Through a Vague Borough
Image
You can feel the warm breeze filtering through Love, Brooklyn, a gentle, dream-like summer movie that often teeters on the edge of reality. Rachael Abigail Holder’s debut feature, written by Paul Zimmerman, doesn’t necessarily drift in and out of abstract fantasy, but her vision of this rapidly evolving borough sometimes looks like it belongs to an alternate dimension. The night streets, the parks, and the bars are all practically empty. The Fort Greene and Bed-Stuy neighborhoods look pristine, uncluttered, undefined. And everyone involved in this triangular romantic drama has a vague vocation that allows them an altogether luxurious lifestyle. Everything is a little too good to be true.

That starts with Roger (André Holland), a writer struggling to type out an essay he’s been assigned about the gentrification and evolution of Brooklyn. It’s a ripe subject, and Zimmerman uses the idea as a thematic backdrop for his script.
