The Cosby Show alumna Keisha Knight Pulliam has paid a heartfelt tribute to her former The Cosby Show co-star Malcolm-Jamal Warner.

In an Instagram post Sunday, Knight Pulliam wrote

“A week ago I lost my big brother, but I gained an angel…I love you… I miss you… We got our girls, ❤️” (a reference to Warner’s wife and daughter).

She wrote her caption alongside a clip of the Emmy-nominated and Grammy-winning Warner playing bass guitar onstage in front of a crowd at the City Winery in Atlanta.

Pulliam and Warner played siblings Theo and Rudy Huxtable on The Cosby Show throughout the show’s run from 1984 to 1992.

Warner died July 20 in a drowning accident while on vacation with his family in Costa Rica. He was 54.

In addition to The Cosby Show, his prolific acting career included series regular roles on The Resident and Malcolm & Eddie, along with dozens of other acting and directing credits.

Warner drowned in Costa Rica during a family vacation on Sunday (July 20), after he was caught in a high tide. His official cause of death has been listed as asphyxiation.

Warner rose to fame playing Theo Huxtable on NBC’s The Cosby Show, a role that made him a household name in the 1980s and earned him an Emmy nomination at just 16.

“He’s devastated and it’s a sad day,” Bill Cosby spokesperson Andrew Wyatt said in a statement.

Wyatt said the impact of Warner’s death on Bill Cosby was similar to when he got the news that his own son, Ennis Cosby Cosby, was killed in a failed robbery attempt.

Costa Rica National Police told ABC News that the actor died of asphyxia after swimming near Cocles in Limon, Costa Rica. Police told the outlet he was caught by a high current in the water. His body was discovered and identified by his family Sunday afternoon.

Newport Jazz Festival has unveiled a star-studded lineup for its summer weekend. Janelle Monáe, the Roots, and Jacob Collier will headline the three-day event, which will take place Aug. 1-3 at Fort Adams State Park in Rhode Island.

The Writers Guild of America went on strike on May 2, and work on all television and film projects was stopped immediately by guild members. Production was able to continue on some projects that already had completed scripts, but since the nature of late-night talk shows requires timely jokes, they have all been off the air for exactly five months.

But, thanks to last week’s deal between the WGA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), all of the late-night shows will return to the air on Monday, Oct. 2 with brand new episodes. As The Streamable noted last week, because these types of shows are generally day-to-day operations, they are able to get back to airing new episodes almost immediately.

After 22 weeks without late night, the biggest hosts on television have returned. Late night shows are back following the conclusion of the WGA strike.

After the announcement on Tuesday night that writers were allowed to return to work, HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher” became the first late night show to return Friday with guest Ron DeSantis. But Maher isn’t the only one jumping back on the air with a splashy big name. From Neil deGrasse Tyson to Matthew McConaughey, the kings of the 11:35 p.m. and 12:35 p.m. blocks aren’t holding back when it comes to their returns.

LA3C, the Los Angeles music and food festival that launched last year, will return in November for a second edition that includes headliners Erykah Badu, Herbie Hancock and Oscar winner Questlove.

The three-day festival focusing on the best of L.A.’s music, food and film scenes, will take place November 10-12 in the downtown historic core across four venues: the Theatre at the Ace Hotel, the Los Angeles Theatre, the Orpheum Theatre and the Palace Theatre.

Badu will play at the Orpheum, while Hancock will jam at the Ace. They top a music lineup that includes Flying Lotus, Robert Glasper and Terrace Martin, Nick Hakim, Julie Byrne and John Carroll Kirby.

Additional performers include Kamasi Washington, Marc Rebillet, Sudan Archives, Fred Armisen, Lonnie Holley, Aja Monet, Pauli the Psm, Novena Carmel, Shabazz Palaces, Yrsa Daley-Ward, The Josh Craig, Acyde, Siobhan Bell, Kilo Kish, Salami Rose Joe Louis, Def Rain and Feels Like Floating.

The best in hip-hop are being celebrated.

On Thursday, the nominations were announced for the 2023 BET Hip-Hop Awards, with Cardi B and 21 Savage leading the pack with 12 nods apiece.

Both artists will be facing off against each other in major categories like Hip-Hop Artist of the Year, Lyricist of the Year, Hustler of the Year and Best Hip-Hop Video.

Coming in second place is Drake, who landed nine nominations, including Hip-Hop Artist of the Year.

Burna Boy and DJ Khaled each received sevn nods, while J. Cole came in at five.

Dinner Party — the jazz/hip-hop supergroup composed of Robert Glasper, Terrace Martin, Kamasi Washington, and 9th Wonder — brought the whole family to Jimmy Kimmel Live! for a performance of their single “Insane” with guest vocalist Ant Clemons.

Following an introduction by the host that misidentified the track as coming from their “self-titled EP” rather than their new sophomore LP, Enigmatic Society, the scene opened to the quartet and Clemons huddled on couches for a casual, impromptu hangout that was immediately inviting and effortlessly cool. The laidback and intimate setting perfectly fit the song’s vibey tone and lovelorn lyrics, while the band’s close proximity only added to the intense and intricate interplay between Glasper’s keys, Martin’s synth and vocoder acrobatics, Clemons’ vocals, and Washington’s saxophone flourishes. Robert Glasper, Terrace Martin, and Kamasi Washington have joined together once again as the jazz/hip-hop collective Dinner Party to unveil their second album, Enigmatic Society. The full-length follow-up to their 2020 self-titled debut with 9th Wonder, and its subsequent, Grammy-nominated reimagining Dessert, is out today, April 14th.

The nine-track LP boasts contributions from Ant Clemons and Tank (of Tank and the Bangas) as well as vocalists Phoelix and Arin Ray on three songs apiece. The latter three artists are returning collaborators from the group’s previous oeuvre, while Clemons made his Dinner Party debut on the Sounwave-produced single “Insane” in March. Celebrated singer-songwriter Meshell Ndegeocello is back with a new song, “Virgo.” The single will appear on her first album of all new material in nearly a decade, The Omnichord Real Book, out June 16 via Blue Note.

“Virgo” is a slinky, eight-minute jazz-soul epic that blends everything from disco guitar and plucky synths to atmospheric washes of sound and a bit of ethereal harp: “They’re calling me back to the stars,” Ndegeocello sings. “Deep outer space, they’re calling me.”

During one of the “Freaky Friday” singer’s recent concerts, a woman received a lap dance onstage from Brown, which left her boyfriend, whom she attended the show with, infuriated.

Following the concert, the angry boyfriend took to TikTok to share a video of the erotic dance, in which his girlfriend appears to be enjoying the performance as she ran her hands down Brown’s body. She even fanned herself with her hand.

“Insane” boosts a sampled drum loop from Mtume’s “Juicy Fruit” with fuzzed out bass, layering Glasper’s famous piano and Clemons’ vocals on top of the 1983 track’s syncopated rhythms. The result is what Dinner Party does best, blending the soul of R&b with hip-hop production.

Dinner Party formed back in 2020, when the group released a self-titled album that they quickly refreshed with Dessert, a new version of the LP that featured Snoop Dogg, Herbie Hancock, Alex Isley, and more. One such song, “Freeze Tag,” was one of the best releases of the year.
