Penn Badgley promises at least some of the many loose ends from Joe’s past will be tied up with You‘s much-anticipated fifth and final season. Netflix unveiled a short teaser during the Tudum Global Fan Event that included some of those loose ends – season one’s Dr. Nicky (John Stamos), season two’s Ellie (Jenna Ortega), and season three’s The Conrads (Shalita Grant and Travis Van Winkle) – but didn’t reveal exactly which of Joe’s victims will show up in the final season.

Reaching into Inspector Morse’s past for a prequel series was a gamble that paid off handsomely. Endeavour, which followed the young detective over a seven-year period from constable to detective sergeant in the 1960s and early 1970s, just concluded after nine series. It was an exemplary prequel, beloved by newcomers and by fans of the original Inspector Morse, which it referenced playfully and with imagination.
Endeavour’s success was not a given, nor should it be laid at the feet of simple IP recognition. Prime Suspect 1973, which attempted the same trick by following a younger version of Helen Mirren’s celebrated Dci Jane Tennison, lasted only one series. Young Wallander on Netflix made it to two, but the response has been lukewarm. [Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for You Season 4 Part 1 (Episodes 1-5).] The tables have turned on Penn Badgley‘s Joe Goldberg in You Season 4 Part 1, streaming now on Netflix. After murdering his wife, Love (Victoria Pedretti), and leaving their baby, Henry, behind, Joe is living in London disguised as Jonathan Moore, an American literature professor at a university in the city. Externally, he’s keeping up appearances. Internally, he’s convincing himself he’s a good person and that all of his killings were necessary last resorts. The delusion is strong with this one. But there’s a new threat to Joe’s pursuit of peace: the Eat the Rich Killer. This anonymous villain knows Jonathan’s real name and his deadly past. They text Joe threatening notes through an encrypted app where messages (conveniently) disappear upon reading. The killer murders Malcolm (Stephen Hagan), Joe’s colleague and Kate’s (Charlotte Ritchie) live-in partner (their windows are seen from ...

There's no shortage of crime and murder in "You" season four. But the first part of this season has been a surprising turn of events compared to the first three seasons. So who is this anonymous Eat the Rich Killer? Why did he take such an interest in Joe?
Who Is the Eat the Rich Killer?

The new you of “You” has been unmasked, and it spells a very sticky situation for Joe (Penn Badgley). The finale of “You” Season 4, Part 1 reveals that Rhys (Ed Speleers) is the notorious Eat the Rich Killer, murdering Joe’s glamorous new associates one-by-one because he too hates their guts.
The killer reveal sets the stage for Part 2 (premiering March 9), because identifying the murderer doesn’t protect Joe or anyone else from being his next victim. No one is safe — some are in even more danger now — and the next five episodes could be a total bloodbath.
Here’s what to expect for all the major characters in “You” Season 4 after that midseason cliffhanger.
Joe
How does a group of people make up for condoning the extrajudicial execution of their homely new American friend? Joe suggests that maybe they can’t, and that his dalliance with London’s privileged elite is over.

[This story includes major spoilers for You season four, Part 1.]
You showrunner Sera Gamble flipped the script for season four, Part 1, of the popular Netflix drama.
The fourth installment of the series — which is broken into two parts, with the first five episodes now streaming — sees Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley) go from the hunter to the hunted, as someone in his new circle of privileged London friends sets him up to go down for the murder of Malcolm Harding (Stephen Hagan).
Over the course of Part 1, Joe and his new pals are the key characters in their own little whodunnit, trying to discover who is plucking them off one by one. When three of London’s elite are stabbed to death, the public labels the murderer the “Eat the Rich killer” — and all signs point to Joe, who actually isn’t the one holding the knife this time around.

Warning! Spoilers ahead for You season 4.You star, Penn Badgley, reveals that he believes Joe Goldberg will never find redemption. The first half of You season 4 shows that Joe was successful in tracking Marienne (Tati Gabrielle) down, but to prove that she was wrong about him being a murderer, he lets her walk away. Enjoying his new identity as a professor named Jonathan Moore, Joe attempts to avoid any new relationships but suddenly finds himself thrown into a murder mystery, stalked and eventually confronted by the "Eat the Rich" killer.
After seeking to protect people he detested, and confessing to Kate (Charlotte Ritchie) about what happened to Malcolm (Stephen Hagan) and how he had been threatened by the killer, it appears that Joe might be different now. However, in a recent interview with E! News, Badgley touched on the idea of being redeemable, and shared that he does not think Joe will change.

You Season 4 picks up in the aftermath of Joe Goldberg faking his death. The last fans saw of Joe, he was living in Paris, searching for Marienne. However, season 4 takes place in London, with Joe working as a professor. Luckily the new season explained Joe’s move and how he got hired to teach.

You Season 4 Part 1 picks up with Joe Goldberg working in London as a professor under the name Jonathan Moore. Joe’s new look and career path suit him. Though he never went to college himself, Joe is incredibly well-read and smart enough to know when to let his students carry the class discussion.
He also assigns literature that is different than the “usual canonical, vaguely racist men that drink,” as his student Nadia puts it.

(Spoiler alert: The following article discusses the entirety of “You” Season 4, Part 1).
For “You” showrunner Sera Gamble, the core conceit of the thriller-drama’s subsequent seasons is ensuring fresh blood: in terms of cast members, sure, but more importantly with embarking on fresh ground.
Now in its senior season and across the pond in London, “You” Season 4, Part 1 depicts Penn Badgley’s return as the ever-sociopathic, ever-apologetic killer, rebranded as an American émigré teaching at a posh university as Professor Jonathan Moore. In a format switch, the series takes on a whodunit approach — much to Joe’s chagrin at being caught in the lowest tier of literature tropes — as the main character finds himself unwittingly embroiled with a new killer targeting an elite group of aristocratic friends, a group rife with socialites, scions and nepo babies.

This article contains spoilers for You Season 4 Part 1 and Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.
Murder mysteries involving toxic, obscenely wealthy friend groups are all the rage right now. The fourth season of You continues this trend as Joe (Penn Badgley) finds himself enmeshed with a group of London’s insufferable elites who happen to have a mystery killer in their midst. However, Joe Goldberg is no follower. In fact, since Season 1 he’s always been lurking in the gilded shadows, fulfilling our collective desire for deadly schadenfreude involving the uber-wealthy. Given his utter disdain for the one percent, it’s odd that Joe continues to find himself surrounded by trust fund babies, tech billionaires, and Instagram influencers, but it’s always fun to hear his innermost thoughts as he takes clever digs at the excess he sees around him.
This season picks up a few months after the events of the Season 3 finale.

Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley) has been around the block and, from the streets of Brooklyn to the suburbs of Northern California, he has left a trail of bodies in his wake. In You season 3, Joe may have been cleaning up his wife's messes, but they were still bloody messes. Now, in You season 4, Netflix's favorite stalker has hopped across the pond and entrenched himself in the high society of London. Fortunately, the snobbery still leaves room for absurdity, and You season 4 part 1 has plenty of it, crafting a murder mystery that is as comical as it is nail-biting while putting Joe in more danger than ever before.

Why Joe is done killing in You season 4 has been revealed by showrunner Sera Gamble. Netflix's You is a crime drama that was first streamed on the platform in 2018. Starring Penn Badgley as Joe Goldberg, You follows the dangerously charming character as he goes to unusually dangerous measures to connect with those he takes a keen interest in. The show was created by Gamble and prolific producer Greg Berlanti, and also features Tati Gabrielle, Charlotte Ritchie, Stephen Hagan, and Lukas Gage among its large ensemble cast.
In an interview shared by Netflix, Gamble reveals why Joe is done murdering in You season 4. After the end of You season 3, Joe set off to Europe under a new name to get a fresh start and create a better future for himself. When things pick up in season 4, Joe is teaching American Literature in London, which is a fitting profession for the articulate menace.

Where to go next after you fake your own death, chop off two of your own toes and leave your wife’s body to burn in a house fire? According to You, the answer is London. Silky-voiced serial killer Joe (Penn Badgley) is back for a fourth run of the psychological thriller series, having escaped the woes of his unfulfilling life in the Californian suburbs. Again, with a new season comes a new home and a new identity for our problematic protagonist: Joe Quinn-Goldberg is now Jonathan Moore, an American professor at an illustrious London university, replete with thick beard, scruffy hair and a brown suede blazer. This change of scenery is one of a few big swings made in this series. For the most part, the British interventions feel fun and fresh. But as the body count continues to rocket upwards without much consequence, credulity is again stretched to breaking point.

Joe Goldberg is out of his element in the official trailer for You Season 4.
Netflix unveiled the trailer on Monday morning, and the series embraces change as Joe moves to London.
Unfortunately, he finds himself caught up in a murder mystery in which it looks like he's being stalked.
We've witnessed Joe stalk his way through three seasons of the juggernaut, but now, the show is on the other foot.
"After his previous life went up in flames, Joe Goldberg has fled to Europe to escape his "messy" past, adopt a new identity, and, of course, to pursue true love," Netflix teases.
"But Joe soon finds himself in the strange new role of reluctant detective as he discovers he may not be the only killer in London."
"Now, his future depends on identifying and stopping whoever's targeting his new friend group of uber-wealthy socialites…"
It's a compelling hook and one that helps reinvigorate the series.

You season 4 gets an earlier premiere date on Netflix. In a fashion that's become expected by viewers, You season 3 ended with a shocking death that leads Penn Badgley's Joe Goldberg to make drastic changes to his life and move to a different location. At the end of the third installment, Joe finds himself in Paris — it's both an effort to blend in and look for Marienne (played by Tati Gabriel). But with new episodes just a few short months away, Joe will once again have to acclimate to fresh surroundings.
In a surprise announcement, Netflix has confirmed that You season 4, part 1, will debut on Thursday, February 9. Part 2 will release exactly a month later on March 9. This is a change from the earlier release plan, which saw the romantic thriller arriving on February 10. The upcoming installment of You was previously teased with a poster of Joe looking ominous.

Netflix’s You season four premiere date announcement video spotlights each of the new key characters – and potential victims – who’ll be interacting with Joe. The upcoming season finds Joe moving to England, and in the video’s voiceover Joe (Penn Badgley) confirms he’s “gone through a bit of refinement” with his move across the pond.
“I’m not the lovable book store manager in New York, or the shop clerk in LA, or the doting husband in the suburbs,” says Joe, adding, “I’m focusing on academia and instruction while keeping my typical extracurricular activities strictly professional.”
Joe also makes the claim that gone are the days of unrequited love and longing. Do we believe him? No.

When will the women of the world finally be free from Joe Goldberg's reign of terror? Though we have more than enough evidence to officially declare the man a psychopath, Netflix is delving back into the psyche of Penn Badgley's Joe, the lovestruck serial killer at the center of their addictively binge-able series, "You."

Netflix gifted fans of You with some big news during its Tudum Global Fan event on Saturday.
The streaming service revealed that You Season 4 will get underway on February 10, 2023.
But there's a catch -- and a pretty big one at that.
The series will be adopting the split-season strategy.
The fourth season's second half will hit the air on March 10, 2023.
Netflix's Stranger Things adopted the split-season strategy with Stranger Things Season 4, and the excitement was off the charts.
Netflix also unveiled a teaser trailer during Tudum that introduces viewers to Professor Joe.

Season 4 of Netflix’s “You” officially has a release date. The first part will debut on Feb. 10 and Part 2 will be available on March 10, the streaming service announced on Saturday as part of their Tudum presentation.
The series, led by Penn Badgley, added more than a dozen new additions to the cast for the upcoming season. Tati Gabrielle will return, with Charlotte Ritchie, Lukas Gage, Tilly Keeper, Amy Leigh Hickman and Ed Speleers joining as series regulars. Niccy Lin, Aidan Cheng, Stephen Hagan, Ben Wiggins, Eve Austin, Ozioma Whenu, Dario Coates, Sean Pertwee, Brad Alexander, Alison Pargeter and Adam James will all have recurring roles.
Ritchie will seemingly be Joe’s (Badgley) new leading lady, Kate, described as someone incredibly smart but also suspicious and completely closed off to those who aren’t her friends. According to Netflix, Kate is always “the adult in the room,” but also embraces the “icy bitch” moniker.

Penn Badgley revealed on the latest episode of his “Podcrushed” podcast that he’s been given a director’s note every time he’s filmed a masturbation scene for “You” to make the scene “less creepy.” The note always leaves the actor baffled considering he stars on the series as a serial killer. “You” started its run on Lifetime before it exploded in popularity with its Season 2 debut on Netflix.
“Every time I’ve done a masturbation scene…I’ve always gotten the note to make it less creepy,” Badgley told co-hosts Sophie Ansari and Nava Kavelin and the episode’s guest, his former “Gossip Girl” co-star Chace Crawford (via Insider). “They say like, ‘Close your eyes or go faster or go slower.’ I’m like, ‘What? This man is fucking murdering people, and he’s masturbating in the street. You’re saying I’m making it creepy? How is...

You is moving ahead with its fourth season on Netflix.
The streaming service confirmed the rumors... the action will be moving to London, and that can only mean one thing:
Plenty of new faces.
What's more, Netflix also dropped the above photo to show that production is underway.
Given that You Season 3 left things on a somewhat open-ended note, it makes sense that Penn Badgley's Joe would be in a new location on You Season 4.
But, who will be in this new location with him, you ask?
Netflix shared a wealth of new cast members with fans Friday.
Tilly Keeper as Lady Phoebe
“As sweet and kind as she is rich, famous, and chaotic, Phoebe’s every bikini wax has been documented by the tabloids since she was 15 years old."
"An aristocratic socialite with an avid fan base, Phoebe’s true colors show when she’s alone with her friends.

“Outlander” Season 5 alum Ed Speleers is among the actors who’ve joined the cast of “You” for Season 4 in a series regular role, Netflix announced Friday.
Speleers, also well-known for his work in “Downton Abbey” and “Eragon,” will play Rhys.
According to a character description from Netflix: “Dry, irreverent Rhys is an author whose memoir garnered him acclaim and pressure to launch a political career. Born into poverty, Rhys lived a traumatic early life before he came into money, going to Oxford and making all the right friends. Now, he moves easily in any social circle, while also seeing through those around him. He doesn’t have much time for partying, though he enjoys staying in touch with his eccentric circle of friends. After all, they were there for him in his troubled youth.”
