Yu Yu Hakusho: A Complete Timeline
Image
Quick Links Spirit Detective Saga Dark Tournament Saga Chapter Black Saga Three Kings Saga Yu Yu Hakusho is a genre-defining series that combines battle shonen tropes with a heavy implementation of shojo tropes. The series follows Yusuke Urameshi, a delinquent turned Spirit Detective, on his journey to save the world. Yu Yu Hakusho is known for its high-stakes battles, strong character development, and the theme of finding one's place in the world.

Yu Yu Hakusho is a genre-defining series that took the already well-worn tropes of battle shonen like Dragon Ball and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and not only perfected them but created something wholly new with its heavy implementation of shojo tropes. Created by Yoshihiro Togashi, who'd go on to make the equally critically acclaimed and influential Hunter x Hunter, Yu Yu Hakusho tells the story of Yusuke Urameshi. After sacrificing his life to save a child from being hit by a car,...

Sakyo In Netflix’s ‘Yu Yu Hakusho,’ Explained: Is Sakyo Alive or Dead?
Image
Netflix’s latest gift to its loyal binge-watchers was the live-action adaptation of Yu Yu Hakusho, which followed the story of Yusuke Urameshi, a human who was resurrected as a spirit detective to stop evil Yokai from devastating the human world. The anime had no shortage of villains, with the likes of Elder and Younger Toguro, Goki, Bui, and many more. But none of them were more sinister and conniving than Sakyo. Unlike the other villains, Sakyo was a human, but with a sinister motive that posed a tremendous threat to the human world. Sakyo wanted to open a portal and see the end of humanity. If you still haven’t streamed Yu Yu Hakusho, do it now.

Spoilers Ahead

What Did Sakyo Want From The Sinkhole?

Yu Yu Hakusho introduced Sakyo as a man in his mid-thirties sporting a black suit and long hair. He was a casino owner...

Yokai Objects In Netflix’s ‘Yu Yu Hakusho,’ Explained
Image
Yu Yu Hakusho chronicled the story of a high schooler, Yusuke Urameshi (Takumi Kitamura), who sacrificed his own life to save a child being run over by a speeding bus. For this selfless act, Koenma, the one in charge of sending people to hell and heaven, resurrected him and made him a protector of the human world, aka a spirit detective. As we reach Episode 2 of Yu Yu Hakusho, we are introduced to the concept of three Yokai objects that got swiped or, let’s say, borrowed in some cases for different reasons. These objects weren’t the everyday things you’d find at a pawn shop. If these objects were to fall into the wrong hands, they could bring devastation to the human world. In simple terms, they had the power to disrupt the balance of both the spirit and demon worlds. Since Yusuke has taken on the role of protecting the human world,...

10 Biggest Changes Netflix's Yu Yu Hakusho Makes To The Anime
Image
Warning: This article contains Spoilers for Netflix's Yu Yu Hakusho.

The live-action Yu Yu Hakusho makes significant changes to the anime's story. For example, Genkai's tournament and the Beasts of Maze Castle arc are not adapted in the live-action series. Sakyo acts as the main villain in the live-action adaptation, and the Dark Tournament saga is sort of merged into the Yukina rescue arc.

Netflix’s Yu Yu Hakusho keeps the essence of the anime characters but makes significant changes to Yusuke's story. Yu Yu Hakusho, which started as a manga by Yoshihiro Togashi in 1991, received an anime adaptation in 1992 and went on to become one of the most influential shonen stories of all time. From the Yu Yu Hakusho characters to the incredible fights, Netflix’s new live-action anime adaptation had big expectations to meet.

Considering that the live-action Yu Yu Hakusho only has five episodes and tries...

Yusuke Urameshi In Netflix’s ‘Yu Yu Hakusho,’ Explained: Will Yusuke End Up Like Toguro?
Image
I was told that Netflix had a tendency, or habit if you’d call it that, to ruin live-action anime adaptations, as seen with Death Note, Bleach, and others. However, after seeing One Piece, I thought that time had passed, and to be honest, this was the only reason I picked up Yu Yu Hakusho, but with a pinch of salt. The live-action adaptation of the highly successful manga didn’t disappoint. The series chronicles the story of one Yusuke Uremeshi (Takumi Kitamura), a high school student who, for his blunt attitude, always ends up in brawls, which he always won, by the way. Yusuke was the type of person who’d not even explain his stance, even if he was right. Why? He thinks it’s too much work. In one instance, he was mistaken for a bully stealing money from a student, but Yusuke didn’t even defend...
