U.S.-based distributor Synkronized Distribution has acquired the world rights for the crime drama “The Vortex,” represented by Iuvit Media Sales at the upcoming European Film Market in Berlin.

The film is directed by Richard Zelniker (“As Night Comes”) and written by Steven Barr. It stars Billy Gardell, Jaina Lee Ortiz and Jamie McShane.

“The Vortex” looks at the tragic 1980 MGM Grand fire on the Las Vegas Strip, and tells the story of a Native American Paiute cleaning lady who enters the casino, setting off a chain of weird events and unexplained gambling wins.

The events center on the in-house comedian (played by Gardell), who is struggling with a gambling addiction, and plays shrink to a host of colorful characters and is forced to make a life-altering decision.

“The Vortex” is produced by Lucid Pictures, with the participation of Olliecorp. It is produced by Richard Zelniker, Adriana Rotaru, Callie Nguyen Zelniker and Justin Richards.

NBC’s Magnum P.I. said goodbye tonight and series star Jay Hernandez is opening up about how he feels about the ending and whether or not there are talks of continuing the story.

“I actually floated the idea of a standalone film. I suppose it’s still possible. If I’m being totally honest I didn’t love the show ending how it did,” Hernandez told a fan via Twitter who said they’d have liked to have seen the show continue.

Private investigation acquired a modern twist on Magnum P.I. Season 5 Episode 15.

Thomas and Juliet agreed to take on a missing person's case remotely from three clients scattered across North America.

The missing person was a gamer who played Battlecraft with them online.

A complicating wrinkle was that none knew the gamer's real name. But Higgins made short work of that problem, hacking his food-delivery account to establish his name and address.

They soon discovered that not only had Kilo, the gamer, been abducted, but that he had been taken for an insidious reason.

Kilo had worked at a fertility clinic, and his I.D. was used to gain entrance so the thief could steal frozen embryos to be held for ransom.

Kidnapping and theft soon escalated to murder with his discovery of Kilo's body. A couple of twists later, Katsumoto had the scheme's mastermind (using that term loosely) and her rogue accomplice in custody.

Tc (Stephen Hill) may not have been ready to see anyone while he was recovering after being shot — he didn’t even tell his mother what happened — but it’s time, on Magnum P.I., for him to deal with the consequences of that. On the list of people he wants to see now that he’s out of the rehab facility is Mahina (Emily Alabi), and TV Insider has an exclusive sneak peek of just that in the October 25 episode. With encouragement from Sham (Christopher Thornton) and armed with flowers (which he worries isn’t enough), Tc approaches Mahina at work. Regarding the return of Magnum P.I., it's a good news-bad news situation for fans.

Let's go with the good news first. Unlike many scripted programs, the second half of the NBC series' fifth season will return on Oct. 4, earlier than was previously announced.

The bad news is that these episodes are likely the end for the Magnum reboot. After saving the show following its cancellation by CBS, NBC managed to run it into the ground before canceling it yet again. Yup, it's been that kind of season for Magnum.
