Image
The Bloody Disgusting-powered Screambox is home to a variety of unique horror content, from originals and exclusives to cult classics and documentaries. With such a rapidly-growing library, there are many hidden gems waiting to be discovered.

Here are five recommendations you can stream on Screambox right now.

Horror in the High Desert

One of the most fruitful uses of found footage in recent memory, Horror in the High Desert is a pseudo-documentary chronicling the bizarre events that stem from the 2017 disappearance of a hiker in the Nevada wilderness.

Writer-director Dutch Marich achieves verisimilitude with smart direction and authentic performances. In classic true crime doc fashion, information is strategically unveiled to maximize impact. The methodical pacing pays off with an incredibly unnerving final 15 minutes of found footage. You’ll immediately want to follow it up with the equally effective sequel, Horror in the High Desert 2: Minerva, also on Screambox.

‘Horror in the High Desert’ and ‘High Desert 2’ Bring Found Footage Terror to Screambox!
Heather Donahue in The Blair Witch Project (1999)
Found footage films are usually at their best when they keep the authenticity high and the complexity low, with the best of the best found footage movies favoring chilling simplicity above all else. The Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity are two of the all-time greats for a reason, both stripped down, low-budget found footage efforts that still terrify to this day.

Filmmaker Dutch Marich has been tapping into those vibes with his own bone chilling found footage franchise, which kicked off with Horror in the High Desert in 2021 and now continues this year with sequel Horror in the High Desert 2: Minerva. The unsettling found footage franchise delves into mysterious disappearances in the Nevada wilderness.

These deeply effective found footage movies bring maximum terror with their minimal approaches to the sub-genre, and they’re Both now streaming on Screambox today!

Some horror movies are built precisely on this aspect of the general design of horror. The more real, the better. And people are...
