Peaky Blinders Movie’s Long Wait Addressed By Cillian Murphy
Image
Peaky Blinders star Cillian Murphy opens up about the long-awaited movie continuation. Steven Knight's hit BBC drama saw Murphy's World War I veteran Tommy Shelby establish a powerful criminal empire in 1920's Birmingham, where he faced rival crime families, authorities set on bringing him to justice, and fascistic movements. Peaky Blinders first aired in 2013 and ran for six seasons before ending in 2022 with a six-episode season.

While speaking to Rolling Stone about his acting career and upcoming role in Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer, Murphy was asked about his involvement in the Peaky Blinders movie. While the actor affirmed that he would still like to work with Knight on the series again, he stated that he did feel some trepidation about returning to the role after the show's six-season run, setting up some conditions for any further reprisal. Check out Murphy's full response below:

"If there’s more story there,...

Peaky Blinders: Cillian Murphy would love to do a movie
Image
Peaky Blinders came to a close last year after six seasons, but creator Steven Knight has been working on a movie that would continue the story. Cillian Murphy starred as Thomas Shelby in the series, and while speaking with Rolling Stone, said that he’d love to return for a Peaky Blinders movie but that it would have to be done right.

“If there’s more story there, I’d love to do it,” Cillian Murphy said of the Peaky Blinders movie. “But it has to be right. Steve Knight wrote 36 hours of television, and we left on such a high. I’m really proud of that last series. So, it would have to feel legitimate and justified to do more.” Murphy added that while he loved playing Thomas Shelby, he couldn’t be any different from the character in real life.

People expect this mysterious, swaggering… it’s just a character.

Cillian Murphy Says ‘Peaky Blinders’ Fame Can ‘Ruin Experiences’: ‘It Kind of Destroys Human Behavior’
Image
By the time Cillian Murphy brought war veteran and gangster Tommy Shelby to life on “Peaky Blinders,” he had already starred in at least one horror classic (“28 Days Later”), a Cannes winner (“The Wind That Shakes the Barley”) and four Christopher Nolan blockbusters (including key supporting roles in “Batman Begins” and “Inception”). And yet, it was Shelby and the British gangster drama that ran for 6 seasons and 36 episodes that turned Murphy into an international star, the kind that gets recognized everywhere he goes.

During a recent interview with Rolling Stone U.K., Murphy lamented over the explosive fame that “Peaky Blinders” ignited. The actor said such fame “can ruin experiences, because it fetishizes everything: you can be walking down the street and someone takes a picture like this is a fucking event. It kind of destroys nuance and human behavior, but that’s part and parcel of it. Fame evaporates with regularity.

Cillian Murphy Talks Longtime Collaboration With Christopher Nolan, Says ‘Oppenheimer’ Is “Best Script I Ever Read”
Image
Cillian Murphy takes on the role of “one of the most complicated and layered people” in history in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film, Oppenheimer.

The Peaky Blinders star will play J. Robert Oppenheimer, the father of the atomic bomb, in the famed director’s biopic, which follows the physicist as he works with a team of scientists during the Manhattan Project, as they develop the deadly weapon.

“It’s the best script I ever read,” Murphy told Rolling Stone UK. The story is told entirely in the first person from Oppenheimer’s perspective, which the actor appreciated. “I think the film is sensational. As a person who loves films — I’m not saying it ’cause I’m in the fucking thing, I hate looking at myself — but as a lover of film, as a cinephile, I’m a Chris Nolan fan.”

While the Batman Begins villain refrained from sharing too...

J.J. Abrams at an event for Star Trek Into Darkness (2013)
Jj Abrams on Screening Room: 'We have to adapt'
J.J. Abrams at an event for Star Trek Into Darkness (2013)
Jj Abrams on Monday evening hinted at his support for Screening Room as he collected the CinemaCon Showman Of The Year award from the very people who stand to lose the most should the disruptive distribution platform become reality.

The development at Caesars Palace during the Paramount Pictures presentation illustrated the relative impotence of the exhibition community faced with a tide of change that threatens to engulf the traditional releasing model.

Abrams had already made public his support for Sean Parker and Prem Akkaraju’s controversial proposal before CinemaCon and offered some insight when he took to the Colosseum stage.

“Much has been said of technologies that threaten the theatre experience — and I’m no expert, and I’m open to all points of view and good ideas to keep theatres thriving — but we need to do everything we can in this age of piracy, digital technology and disruption to be thoughtful partners in the evolution of this...
