Anyone familiar with the wild world of dating, parental expectations, and wedding planning knows all these aspects of amore can drive anyone up a wall. It’s impossible to please everyone while trying to accomplish what you want, and having people “looking out for your best interest” can act as salt in a wound. Simone Ashley’s character Pia of the film Picture This is well aware of all these things, but she’s doing her best with the circumstances. Thankfully, we’ve got Picture This director Prarthana Mohan and stars Simone Ashley, Hero Fiennes Tiffin, and Luke Fetherston to help shed light on navigating these pitfalls of the heart.
In Picture This, Pia (Simone Ashley), a struggling photographer, receives a prediction: true love awaits in her next five dates. With her sister’s wedding looming and her family playing matchmaker, her ex re-appears, throwing her love life into chaos.

If you're not familiar with Simone Ashley at the moment, you soon will be. The British actor who first popped as the Untouchable Olivia in the Netflix comedy "Sex Education" has rocketed to streaming stardom as Kathani in Chris Van Dusen's period romance "Bridgerton," also for Netflix. The entire (quite large) "Bridgerton" ensemble just earned a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama (losing to "Shōgun"), and Ashley has confirmed that she will return for season 4.
If that's all Ashley had going on in her life, that'd be more than enough to confirm that she is a star fast on the rise. She's also in the cast of this summer's highly anticipated Brad Pitt racing flick "F1" from "Top Gun: Maverick" director Joseph Kosinski, and is currently recording her first album with renowned producer/songwriter Fraser T. Smith. There's no guarantee that...

Spoiler Alert: This post contains mild spoilers for Prime Video’s Picture This.
In the Prarthana Mohan-directed romantic comedy film Picture This, adapted from the Australian film Five Blind Dates by screenwriter Nikita Lalwani, the first snapshots of Simone Ashley’s lead character Pia Jaswani are quite chaotic.
Absorbed in her passion and profession — photography, Pia has forgotten that she has an important appointment with her mother Laxmi (Sindhu Vee) and Sonal (Anoushka Chadha). She stumbles to change clothes and rushes out the door only to loose one of her sandals in her haste to catch the bus, making quite the impression on her mom and sister, who called that she was running late.
“I think her chaos and clumsiness [were things] that I didn’t relate to as much because I think I’m much more of an organized, grounded person,” Ashley told Deadline in an interview the day after...

Prarthana Mohan’s Picture This is a rom-com centered around second-generation Nri Pia, who we see struggling in her personal and professional life. Her analog photo studio business was barely making money, and she was not lucky when it came to love. After several failed relationships, she’d come to realize that the only person she’d ever truly loved was her childhood sweetheart, Charlie. But then again, she’d moved on in life and was comfortable with the idea of staying unmarried forever. Pia’s mother, Laxmi, refused to accept her daughter’s decision and insisted she aim for marital bliss. Even though Pia knew that the jewelry her mother had set aside for her wedding would help her pay the bills at the studio, she was not allowed to access it until she decided to get married. Her mother insisted her family priest read Pia’s future, and...

Are romantic comedies all the same or do they only subtly differ? Yes, with barely perceptible differences, romantic comedies seem to follow such a marked narrative path that they inevitably tend to look too much alike.
In this instance, we have a remake of the 2024 Australian film, transplanted to London, once again taking up the format of recent romantic comedies: a woman of a certain age (30) who hasn’t gotten married and sees time slowly passing by.
Starring Simone Ashley as Pia, a struggling photographer on the brink of personal and professional transformation, the film adopts a mystical approach to romance.
Directed by Prarthana Mohan and written by Nikita Lalwani, the film is based on the 2024 Australian romantic comedy “Five Blind Dates”. The production, a collaboration between Amazon MGM Studios and Ingenious Media, brings together a talented team including editor Gary Dollner and cinematographer David Higgs.

One year after the romantic comedy “Five Blind Dates” premiered on Prime Video, there’s already a remake landing on the same streamer. At first glance, that sort of redundancy might sound egregious, given both films are in the English language and feature the same general premise of a 29-year-old woman facing personal and professional crossroads. “Picture This,” however, more than proves it’s worth revisiting that subject. It’s rooted in the same heartrending themes about tapping into power through passion, but sets itself apart by exploring the story through the specificity of Indian culture. Sweet, silly and sincere, director Prarthana Mohan’s spin has a clear understanding of what makes its source material revelatory and resonant.
London-based photographer Pia (Simone Ashley) has always viewed life through an unconventional lens. She loves work and her independence. But her world is currently in chaos and about to get even more complicated.

"Are you ready to change your life?" Amazon Prime Video has unveiled the full trailer for a nice romantic comedy called Picture This, arriving for streaming worldwide in March in a few weeks. Made by director Prarthana Mohan (The Miseducation of Bindu) and shot mostly in the UK, this is also known as Five Blind Dates. In this heartfelt rom-com, struggling photographer Pia receives a prediction – true love and career success await her in the next five dates she goes on. With her sister's wedding looming and family playing matchmaker, her ex reappears, throwing both her love and professional life into chaos. Hmmm do you think she'll get back with her ex or not? Starring Simone Ashley, Hero Fiennes Tiffin, Sindhu Vee, Luke Fetherston, Nikesh Patel, Adil Ray, Anoushka Chadha, and Phil Dunster. This looks quite cliche & like every other romcom before it, but that's always what they're like and everyone still enjoys them anyway.

Earlier this summer, filmmakers Mark and Jay Duplass, alongside Seed&Spark, the film-focused crowdfunding platform with built-in distribution, announced a brand new initiative designed to find and bolster new filmmaking talent all over the country. Their Hometown Heroes partnership was designed to challenge “filmmakers from all over the country to tell stories that have never been told from wherever they are,” including a large-scale call for crowdfunding campaigns for narrative feature films on the Seed&Spark platform.
Submissions opened for the initiative in August and the rally launched on September 12, when the 73 participating films began their crowdfunding campaigns. All campaigns closed on October 13. More than $860,000 was raised across all rally projects, who also amassed a total of 63,000 followers in the 30-day period.

The 3rd annual Portland Oregon Women’s Film Festival (Pow!) has announced their full festival lineup, which includes 44 films from all over the world. The fest will run March 18-21 at the Hollywood Theatre.
Maybe this year, the Pow! fest will have something extra to celebrate if Kathryn Bigelow wins the Best Directing Academy Award on March 7th. Bigelow is the odds on favorite to take home the Oscar statuette this year for directing The Hurt Locker and, if she does, she’d be the first woman ever to do so. Actually, only four women have ever even been nominated: Bigelow, Lina Wertmuller, Jane Campion and Sofia Coppola.
