Truthfully, the writing had been on the wall for some time.

All Rise Season 3 Episode 10 aired a year ago, and the series has been on hiatus ever since -- never a good sign for any series.

In March, Deadline reported that the entire cast had been released, meaning that new deals would have to be reached if negotiations got underway for a fourth season.

The cabler picked up the legal drama when it was canceled after two seasons at CBS amid shake-ups that saw several writers resign and showrunner Greg Spottiswood fired for misconduct.

“I thought we were over,” said current showrunner and executive producer Dee Harris-Lawrence, who took over after Spottiswood’s exit.

“There’s not that many shows like our show that tell these type of stories. So I’m excited to continue them at OWN,” she said during a Television Critics Association panel on Wednesday, in which she gushed that 80% of the staff are back for the series’ new beginning.

All Rise‘s court may be back in session! Warner Bros. TV, which produced the cancelled CBS legal drama, is in very early negotiations with OWN for a possible third season, our sister site Deadline reports.

While talks have not yet reached the final stage and nothing is official yet, Warner Bros. TV is taking steps to secure the cast, whose options expired at the end of June. Negotiations have begun with series lead Simone Missick, while other cast members — including Wilson Bethel, Jessica Camacho and J. Alex Brinson — have been approached.

The recently cancelled All Rise wrapped up its run on Monday night with a de facto series finale full of career transitions and romantic shakeups.

Updated with tweets from Simone Missick: The fashionable crew of judges, lawyers of CBS’s All Rise will not return for a third season. After CBS revealed on Saturday that it has cancelled the Simone Missick-fronted legal drama after two seasons, co-showrunner Dee Harris-Lawrence, writer Lucy Luna, cast members Missick, Marg Helgenberger and Lindsey Gort celebrated their time on the series on social media.

“My admiration, love and respect to this hardworking cast, crew & badass writers of @AllRiseCBS this season,” Harris-Lawrence tweeted. “Determined to tell impt & impactful stories through a pandemic, with a diverse cast, headed up by a Blk Female Judge. The 1st on CBS.”

Created by Gregg Spottiswood, All Rise followed the chaotic, hopeful and sometimes absurd lives of its judges, prosecutors and public defenders, as they work with bailiffs, clerks and cops to get justice for the people of Los Angeles amidst a flawed legal process.

Two days after CBS cancelled All Rise, several of the show’s stars took to Twitter on Monday to express their gratitude for the legal drama’s storytelling.

“Hand over my heart, #thankful to our amazing #risers who watched, rewatched, tweeted, DMd, and shared with us all the ways @AllRiseCBS touched them from week to week,” star Simone Missick (aka Judge Lola Carmichael) tweeted. “Let’s enjoy these last 2 episodes. I am certainly proud to say the least.”

All Rise‘s court proceedings will not reconvene at a later date: CBS has cancelled the legal drama after two seasons, TVLine has learned.

The season (and now series) finale is slated to air Monday, May 24. CBS also cancelled the Walton Goggins comedy The Unicorn after two seasons.

Some potentially good news for Mark and Amy’s romance on All Rise: The CBS legal drama has promoted Lindsey Gort, who recurred during the freshman run, to series regular for Season 2, our sister site Deadline reports.

Gort plays private defense lawyer Amy Quinn, who began a romantic relationship with Deputy District Attorney Mark Callan (Wilson Bethel) during the first season. In May’s pandemic-set finale, the couple decided to take a big step and quarantine together. On the career front, the character joined Mark and Judge Lola Carmichael’s law school buddy Rachel Audubon at her new firm.

Exclusive: We’ll be seeing more of Amy Quinn in the second season of All Rise. Lindsey Gort, who recurred as the character in the first season of the CBS courthouse drama, has been promoted to series regular for Season 2.

Gort’s Amy Quinn is a private defense lawyer who recently joined forces professionally with legal powerhouse Rachel Audubon to start a new firm that takes on controversial cases. Meanwhile, Amy’s joined personal forces with Deputy District Attorney Mark Callan (Wilson Bethel) after having decided to self-quarantine together when the Covid crisis hit. Amy brings her wry humor, sharp mind and fierce passions to everything she does – making waves all over the Hall of Justice.
