House Of The Dragon Season 3 Casts Annie Shapero As One Of The Saga's Fiercest Warriors, Alysanne Blackwood
Image
HBO announced that filming is officially underway on the third season of House of the Dragon back in April, and we now have some fairly late casting news that fans of George R.R. Martin's Fire and Blood have been eagerly anticipating.

Deadline reports that Annie Shapero will play Alysanne Blackwood, aka Black Aly, in season 3. In the source material, Blackwood is a mighty warrior who ends up siding with Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) in the Dance of the Dragons before marrying Lord Cregan Stark (Tom Taylor.)

In the season 2 finale, Rhaenyra and Daemon (Matt Smith) put their differences aside and joined forces as they prepared to launch a full-scale attack on King's Landing.

We'll be meeting quite a few new faces in season 3, with James Norton (Happy Valley) previously joining the cast as Ormund Hightower, along with Tommy Flanagan as Ser Roderick Dustin, aka "Roddy the Ruin," and...

'House of the Dragon' Season 3 Finally Casts Alysanne Blackwood
Image
House of the DragonSeason 3 has finally cast one of the "most fierce" warriors from George R. R. Martin's best-selling work. As filming for the highly-anticipated third season of the Game of Thrones prequel continues, it has now been revealed who will be playing a legendary character from the saga.

Deadline reports that Annie Shapero (Red Skies) has been cast as Alysanne Blackwood in House of the Dragon Season 3. She will not be a series regular, but is expected to appear in five episodes of the upcoming season. The character plays a key role in Fire & Blood, so fans of the book have been waiting for the casting for quite some time. Details remain scarce on the upcoming season, but Shapero will make her debut as Alysanne when House of the Dragon returns to HBO sometime in 2026.

Alysanne "Black Aly" Blackwood is an important character from Fire & Blood, and could...

Tom Glynn-Carney promises an unpredictable arc for Aegon in House of the Dragon season 3
Image
King Aegon II Targaryen was my favorite character from the second season of House of the Dragon. He was the screw-up king, a callow layabout hopelessly unprepared for the huge responsibility thrust upon him after the death of his father, King Viserys Targaryen. Yes, he's done bad things, but it was hard not to feel for him, especially after his power-hungry younger brother Aemond blasted him out of the sky on dragonback. Last we left Aegon, he was a wounded shell of a man fleeing King's Landing before Aemond could finish the job, aided by Larys Strong (Matthew Needham).

Even before he was wounded, Aegon was always "frail," as actor Tom Glynn-Carney put it to Awards Radar. "I don’t think there was ever a part of him that was strong," Glynn-Carney said. "He might’ve looked strong with a crown on his head, but I think he’s always been fragile.

“Kind of Momentous”: ‘House of the Dragon’ Star Reveals Why It’s So Important That Rhaenyra & Daemon Have Each Other’s Backs
Image
Heavy lies the head that wears the crown. This is most definitely true of Queen Rhaenyra (Emma D'Arcy) in the HBO series, House of the Dragon. Queen Alicent's (Olivia Cooke) mistake has set off a chain of events that have since brought Rhaenyra and Aegon (Tom Glynn-Carney) to blows as the contest for the Iron Throne continues. Aegon sees little need for proper counsel, a flaw that is evident in his erratic decision-making. Meanwhile, his half-sister values counsel, albeit some she doesn't always agree with. This brings her into conflict with the men on her council, even with her King-Consort, Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith). In the aftermath of one of those explosive verbal confrontations where Rhaenyra finally tells Daemon that she can't trust him, he departs for Harrenhal and remains there for a greater part of Season 2.

After several unnatural sightings and a vision of the future in the godswood...

"She Fundamentally Can't Survive": 'House of the Dragon's Emma D'Arcy Explains Rhaenyra and Mysaria's Unique Relationship
Image
In war, it's hard to know who to trust. In a civil war, it's even harder as the standoff is between previous allies. Queen Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) and Aegon II Targaryen's (Tom Glynn-Carney) claims to the Iron Throne have brought the realm to its knees in House of the Dragon. The Targaryen civil war will ultimately cripple the most powerful house in Westeros, but before we get there, its key players must take advice from their most trusted councilors. While Aegon has Lord Larys (Matthew Needham) to count on, Rhaenyra, in Season 2 of the prequel series, depends on Mysaria (Sonoya Mizuno), aka the White Worm, for counsel while on Dragonstone.

Mysaria is the woman Prince Daemon (Matt Smith) used as a pawn in his stunt to get his brother's, King Viserys (Paddy Considine), attention years ago. Daemon's trickery and manipulation was a shared experience for both women, and one they could bond over.

'House of the Dragon' Season 3 Casts 'Andor' Star Joplin Sibtain
Image
Disney+'s Andor recurring co-star, Joplin Sibtain, who played Brasso, is taking a trip to Westeros in House of the Dragon. His character in the science fiction series, which is part of the Star Wars franchise, was Cassian Andor's co-worker and friend. After having a devastating role to play in a Season 2 episode, the actor is now joining the cast of George R. R. Martin and Ryan Condal's series.

According to Deadline, Sibtain recently snagged a role in Season 3 of House of the Dragon. He's among a few new cast additions to the fantasy drama, which debuted in 2022 on HBO. Sibtain will play Ser "Bold" Jon Roxton, and Tom Cullen will play Ser Luthor Largent. Meanwhile, Barry Sloane, who played Aiden Mathis in 43 episodes of ABC's Revenge, will play Ser Adrian Redfort. As House of the Dragon continues to grow in popularity, even more new additions are being announced.

“The Show Has to Match That”: House of the Dragon Season 3 Is Ready to Rectify Its Worst Mistake After George R.R. Martin’s Explosive Rant
Image
When dragons take flight, kingdoms burn. And House of the Dragon Season 3 is fanning the flames for what might be its most explosive chapter yet. Fire, blood, betrayal—it’s all brewing into a full-blown Targaryen inferno. Though it started slower than a raven in winter, HBO’s first Game of Thrones spin-off has found its fire. House of the Dragon has gone from cautious political plays to fiery clashes, with fans once again rallying under the banners of George R.R. Martin’s epic world.

And if whispers from the realm are true, Season 3 could rival the best of Thrones—think “Battle of the Bastards” level mayhem with dragons added to the mix.

For the uninitiated, House of the Dragon draws from Martin’s Fire & Blood, set 200 years before Game Of Thrones. It’s the rise and fall of House Targaryen.

Aegon II Targaryen has "one of the best stories" in House of the Dragon season 3
Image
It's been a good week to be a House of the Dragon fan. On Monday, HBO confirmed that the third season of its Game of Thrones prequel series had begun filming. At the same time, two new cast members were announced: Tommy Flanagan as Roderick Dustin aka Roddy the Ruin, and Dan Fogler as Lord Torrhen Manderly. And on top of that, showrunner Ryan Condal sat down with Entertainment Weekly to discuss everything from the Battle of the Gullet to George R.R. Martin's critical blog post of last year. It's been a busy few days!

We're still poring through Condal's words about season 3, and today it's time to shine the light on none other than King Aegon II Targaryen, played by Tom Glynn-Carney. Aegon was one of the surprise breakout characters of season 2; I never particularly liked him in Martin's book Fire & Blood, but Glynn-Carney infused the conflicted king with a sense of tragedy,...

“He’s a Big Feature”: Ryan Condal Teases Prince Daeron's Arrival in ‘House of the Dragon’ Season 3
Image
Finally. There is some hope regarding when we might return to Westeros to watch the Targaryen civil war continue to unfurl. Accompanied by a new look at Emma D'Arcy's Rhaenyra Targaryen, it has been announced that House of the Dragon Season 3 is officially in production. Showrunner Ryan Condal will be returning to help bring to life, as authentically as possible, the events in George R.R. Martin's Fire & Blood. The coming season will most likely take on a more brutal face, as the Dance of Dragons gets ever more intense. This means the arrival of new characters to help drive the narrative further, and one of those new characters is Prince Daeron Targaryen, the third son and youngest son of King Viserys I Targaryen (Paddy Considine) and his second wife, Queen Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke).

Daeron will be arriving from Oldtown to join his brother and mother in their...

HBO has announced that filming is officially underway on the third season of House of the Dragon, and the show's social media accounts have shared a behind-the-scenes look at star Emma D'Arcy calling action while in-costume as Rhaenyra Targaryen.

In the season 2 finale, Rhaenyra and Daemon put their differences aside and joined forces as they prepared to launch a full-scale attack on King's Landing.

We'll be meeting some new faces in season 3, and following the recent news that James Norton will play Ormund Hightower, EW is reporting that Tommy Flanagan has joined the cast as Ser Roderick Dustin, aka "Roddy the Ruin," along with Dan Fogler as Ser Torrhen Manderly.

“I don't want to say much because I think this is one of those truly memorable Game of Thrones characters, and I'm very excited to bring him into the fold,” showrunner Ryan Condal says of Roddy. “But he is a fixture in Fire & Blood,...

House of the Dragon is the second series in the adaptation of George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire franchise and the first Game of Thrones spin-off. The HBO fantasy drama serves as a prequel to Game of Thrones, and it's loosely based on the 2018 novel Fire & Blood, set a couple of centuries before the events of the original series. House of the Dragon Showrunner Responds to George R.R. Martin's Criticism of the Show
Image
House of the Dragon marked the first spin-off in the Game of Thrones franchise, and the series received positive reviews. However, author George R.R. Martin criticized the changes in Season 2.

Although Martin praised House of the Dragon Season 2's "magnificent" beginning, the author later posted a blog review in late August 2024 to address "everything that's gone wrong with House of the Dragon." He published a follow-up several days later in early September, criticizing the adaptation and the character omissions and changes. In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, House of the Dragon showrunner Ryan Condal addressed his criticism for the first time.

"It was disappointing," Condal admitted about Martin's words. "I will simply say I've been a fan of A Song of Ice and Fire for almost 25 years now, and working on the show has been truly one of the great privileges of, not only my career as a writer,...

Production of ‘House of the Dragon’ Season 3 Has Officially Started, New Cast Members Confirmed
Image
House of the Dragon began in 2022 and after two seasons, it has received praise for its production, story, and cast performances. And while not every moment from the series has been universally lauded, HBO can still consider this series a hit.

A spin-off coming from George R.R. Martin’s Game of Thrones universe, House of the Dragon currently has 18 episodes as of the time of writing, but more are to come in the near future.

Namely, we know that the series has been renewed for a third season, but we can now confirm that production on that third season has started, and that some new cast members have been added.

A third season of House of the Dragon is on the way, with another spinoff, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, set to debut on HBO this year. There have been a number of Game of Thrones projects that have been scrapped, including a Jon Snow series, which Kit Harington has said is now on the shelf. “Currently, it’s off the table, because we all couldn’t find the right story to tell that we were all excited about enough,” Harington said. “So, we decided to lay down tools with it for the time being. There may be a time in the future where we return to it, but at the moment, no. It’s firmly on the shelf.” Although the Jon Snow spinoff is no longer in development, HBO’s Casey Bloys said he would be open to revisiting it down the line.

Tommy Flanagan has joined the cast of HBO’s fantasy drama series House of the Dragon for Season 3 in a key role.

Based on Martin’s Fire & Blood and set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon tells the story of House Targaryen.

Flanagan joins the previously announced new cast member James Norton, who will portray Ormund Hightower in the new season. In Martin’s books, Dustin and Hightower eventually face off on opposing sides of the battle. Dustin is also known as “Roddy the Ruin.”

House of the Dragon leak hints this character could return from the dead
Image
Earlier this week, House of the Dragon cast member Steve Toussaint, who plays Corlys Velaryon, sat down to read through the upcoming third season along with his castmates...and posted a list of every character appearing in the fourth episode. The list may not spoil much, but it does tell us a few important things, like that Alicent Hightower's youngest son Daeron Targaryen will officially be part of the cast. I understand why Toussaint didn't think posting something so small would give anything away, but he may have underestimated how wonderfully obsessed this fandom is; he quickly took the post down.

Anyway, the list featured characters both old and new. Some of them are drawn from the pages of George R.R. Martin's book Fire & Blood and some are original to the show. One of the new characters is simply named "Tom." At first, I assumed Tom was just some random supporting character.

Blade Runner 2099: Tom Burke says the Prime Video series is closer to the aesthetic of the original film than to 2049

Last year, the Prime Video limited series Blade Runner 2099 – which is, of course, a continuation of the franchise that began with the 1982 Ridley Scott film Blade Runner and then got a long-awaited follow-up called Blade Runner 2049, which had Denis Villeneuve at the helm, in 2017 – made its way through production. House of the Dragon season 3 adds the first major new character
Image
With production on House of the Dragon season 3 underway, the creative team is hard at work in putting the pieces in place for the highly anticipated next season of HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel and, in doing so, they’ve officially cast the first major new character for the season!

As first confirmed by Variety, actor James Norton has joined the season 3 cast of House of the Dragon in the role of Ormund Hightower, a character who was previously referenced during the show’s second season but had previously never appeared on-screen. Ormund is the nephew of Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans) and cousin to both Alicent (Olivia Cooke) and Gwayne’s (Freddie Fox) cousin.

If his last name and family ties weren’t enough of a context clue, you can very much expect Ormund to be part of Team Green and he’s very much in opposition to Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy). In Fire & Blood,...

Image
“House of the Dragon” has found its Ormund Hightower.

Variety has learned exclusively that James Norton will join the HBO show’s upcoming third season as Ormund.

The official description for the character states that he is “Otto’s (Rhys Ifans) nephew, Alicent (Olivia Cooke) and Gwayne’s (Freddie Fox) cousin, and the Lord of Oldtown. He is presently leading the Hightower host in a march on King’s Landing to support his house against Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy).”

King Aegon II Actor Tom Glynn-Carney Explains Big 'House of the Dragon' Season 3 Tease
Image
House of the Dragon star Tom Glynn-Carney, the actor who gives life to Aegon the usurper, aka King Aegon II, has revealed a few details about what fans can expect from his character in Season 3 of the Game of Thrones prequel series. While he remained vague about the finer details of what could happen to Aegon, the actor teased some changes for the character, who didn't actually have a great time during the Dance of Dragons.

Season 2 of House of the Dragon ended a few months ago, and to call its ending a cliffhanger is an understatement. The shift in terms of character is inevitable for Aegon. He's now a victim of his greed and his lack of skills. In Season 2, he had to get some respect. Season 3 will see him trying to simply survive as everyone in the Targaryen clan, the one in King's Landing, sees Aemond as the new leader.

10 Deadliest House of the Dragon Characters, Ranked By Kill Count
Image
House of the Dragon is a show about the divide of House Targaryen and its power struggles after the death of King Viserys Targaryen. Given House Targaryen's reputation for making irrational decisions and exhibiting violent tendencies, it should come as no surprise that civil war is one of the bloodiest events in the history of Westeros.

However, when it comes to the deadliest characters in the show, not all of them are of the ruling house. Some of these characters know how to use others to commit violence in their name, while others do the deed with the help of their dragons, but all of them have a long list of victims.

House of the Dragon Season 3 Gets Filming Update From Emma D’Arcy
Image
Golden Globe nominee Emma D’Arcy has shared a brand-new update about the current status of House of the Dragon Season 3. In the HBO series, D’Arcy portrays the leading role of Rhaenyra Targaryen, whose rightful claim to the throne is challenged by those who don’t believe that Westeros should have a queen.

During a recent interview with Collider, D’Arcy admitted that they haven’t read the scripts for House of the Dragon Season 3. However, they’re excited about what’s in store for the next installment, as the cast and crew are expected to return to the set in "early next year." "No, I haven’t, is the truth," D’Arcy revealed. "But soon, I hope. Was 'House of the Dragon' Season 2 Snubbed at the Golden Globes?

Quick Links The Sophomore Slump Hurt 'House of the Dragon' Do the Golden Globes Matter for 'House of the Dragon?'

It hasn’t exactly been a good week for fans of Westeros. A few days ago, George R.R. Martin seemingly confirmed a fear fans have had for years now: it’s unlikely that he’ll ever finish the last two books of A Song of Ice and Fire. But an even bigger surprise came during the Golden Globe nominations, which House of the Dragon had handily dominated two years before. Despite mixed reviews for its sophomore season, critical reception has never stopped any Westeros-set series from having guild support. Even the maligned final season of Game of Thrones got (at the time) a record number of Emmy nominations and won Best Drama Series.

Instead, House of the Dragon only earned a single Golden Globes nod for...

Plenty of long-running shows currently on the air are not only exiting gracefully but are completing their planned arcs. By having a confirmed end date, these shows get to carefully orchestrate a conclusion that will successfully bring the character development and story full circle, which always satisfies fans. As difficult as it is to say goodbye to such high-quality shows, it's good to know they won't suddenly be canceled at their peak.

There's hope that these series will join the ranks of fantasy TV shows with almost perfect endings since having a definitive conclusion is often better than going on for too long. When a fantasy TV show continues for too many seasons, it taints the legacy of the series, making the case that...

Game Of Thrones Characters Are Replaced With Minions In Weirdly Disturbing Video
Image
New AI-generated art turns beloved Game of Thrones characters into minions. The acclaimed HBO series, based on the spectacular books by visionary George R. R. Martin, is rated as one of the best television shows. The series was so successful, despite its heavily criticized last season, that it spawned spinoffs like House of the Dragon and the upcoming A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Game of Thrones, and A Song of Ice and Fire, the series it's based on, were lauded for their strong and thoroughly fleshed-out characters, who have become prominent figures in pop culture.

A post on X, from user @pabloprompt, transforms many key Game of Thrones characters into minions, and the result is kind of disturbing. To make the crossover even funnier, the videos soundtrack is a minion rendition of the iconic Game of Thrones theme. Each minion rendition has key features and accessories of each character,...

HBO Boss Reacts to George R. R. Martin's House of the Dragon Complaints
Image
George R.R Martin's complaints about the television adaptation of House of the Dragon caught the attention of HBO execs. While his grievances have not been addressed directly, Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO of HBO and Max Content, recently touched on the topic.

Martin's comments came up when Deadline asked Bloys to share his thoughts about House of the Dragon's Emmy Award chances since Season 2 divided some fans. "Well, I'm not sure that the fans were divided over Season 2," the HBO exec said before the publication mentioned the acclaimed author by name. "Yes, maybe one fan was. But no, the show did really, really well. I expect that will be in competition," he added.

Larys & Aegon's Escape in 'House of the Dragon' Season 2 Has a Deeper Meaning
Image
House of the Dragon Season 2 had many twists and turns, but perhaps the biggest took place at the end when Alicent (Olivia Cooke) and Rhaenyra (Emma D'Arcy) strike a bargain, only for Aegon (Tom Glynn-Carney) and Larys (Matthew Needham) to escape King's Landing, setting up complications for Season 3. The scheming Master of Whisperers used his talents to gain favor with Aegon, rising in the ranks quickly, but their rushed escape makes little enough sense. Alicent may have sold Aegon out, but no one knows that. In fact, Larys initiates his plan before Alicent ever sees Rhaenyra. The speed at which he smuggles the King out of the city is suspicious, especially with all the advanced planning required for such a task, suggesting that the cliffhanger is a calculated move on Larys' part.

House of the Dragon Fans Should Be Worried According to George R.R. Martin
Image
Spoiler Alert: Possible spoilers follow for future seasons of House of the DragonSomething is rotten in the state of Westeros. After promising last week to talk about his dissatisfaction with parts of House of the Dragons second season, franchise maestro George R.R. Martin made good on that promise on Wednesday in a now-deleted blog post. Specifically, he detailed the changes to the season premieres Blood and Cheese plotline, which controversially removed Queen Helaenas youngest son, Prince Maelor. Since Helaena no longer had to willingly sacrifice Maelor (only for Blood and Cheese to kill Jaehaerys instead), fans felt this lessened the emotional impact of the scene. While Martin praised the season as its own entity, he clearly sides with the fans.

As he explained, his bigger concern is the repercussions that Maelors exclusion from the show would have going forward (Spoiler Warning Ahead). In the book Fire and Blood, Maelor is...

George R.R. Martin 'Spoils' Major Character Death for House of the Dragon Season 3

This article contains Potential Heavy Spoilers for an upcoming season of House of the Dragon.

Fans praised House of the Dragon even if it changed storylines in the source material. George R.R. Martin revealed a key character from his novel will never be introduced in the TV show.

George R.R. Martin asserted (in a now-deleted blog post) that Maelor Targaryen will be written off of House of the Dragon. Martin also revealed how the character's arc was supposed to be depicted in the show, which since Season 1 has proven capable of crossing moral taboos. "If you have never read Fire & Blood, maybe it does not matter, because all I am going to 'spoil' here are things that happen in the book that may Never happen on the series," he wrote. "Starting with Maelor himself. Sometime between the initial decision to remove Maelor, a big change was made. The prince's...

George R.R. Martin Spoils House Of The Dragon Season 3 Death In Since-Deleted Post; HBO Responds
Image
Last week, George R.R. Martin took to his “Not a Blog” to hint at some significant grievances with the recent sophomore season of HBO's Game of Thrones prequel series, House of the Dragon, promising to go into more detail soon.

The writer has now done just that, with a lengthy post outlining why he felt one particular character omission in the season premiere could have a "butterfly effect" on later seasons of the show.

He also spoils a significant season 3 death - at least for those who haven't read the book.

In the show, King Aegon and Queen Helaena have two children (Jaehaerys and Jaehaera), but in Martin's Fire and Blood, the twins have a younger brother, 2-year-old Maelor. The infamous “Blood and Cheese” sequence in the series shows the hired thugs kill Jaehaerys in front of his mother, but the events of the book are quite different - and a lot more disturbing.

'I Hated to Lose That': George R.R. Martin Criticizes House of the Dragon's Blood and Cheese Changes
Image
George R.R Marin has been pretty vocal about what he loved about House of the Dragon. However, the acclaimed author recently took issue with how the series portrayed Blood and Cheese and the death of Prince Jaehaerys.

"I still believe the scene in the book is stronger," Martin wrote in a Sept. 4 post on his Not a Blog website. "The readers have the right of that. The two killers are crueler in the book. I thought the actors who played the killers on the show were excellent. But the characters are crueler, harder, and more frightening in Fire & Blood. In the show, Blood is a gold cloak. In the book, he is a former gold cloak, stripped of his office for beating a woman to death. Book Blood is the sort of man who might think making a woman choose which of her sons should die is amusing, especially...
