Prime Video, Guesswork Television, and Ok Great Productions today announced that Australian actor Luke Hemsworth has joined lead cast members Kate Box, Madeleine Sami, Nina Oyama, and Alicia Gardiner in Season 2 of the Prime Video global hit series Deadloch.

In the new season, Dulcie and Eddie are in Darwin investigating the death of Eddie’s former policing partner, Bushy. When a body is discovered in a remote town, they are flung into a new, sweatier, stickier investigation.

Luke Hemsworth has joined the cast of Australian cop comedy Deadloch‘s second season on Prime Video.

The actor has been filming in his native Australia, joining leads Kate Box, Madeleine Sami, Nina Oyama and Alicia Gardiner in the comedy series, which has been hit for Amazon’s streaming service.

Hemsworth will play Jason Wade, creator and star of ‘Jason Wade’s Adventures Down Under’ and the owner of ‘Jason Wade’s Land of Crocs and Other Animals’ Wildlife Park.

The show follows Dulcie (Box) and Eddie (Sami), a pair of mismatched detectives. In the new season, they are investigating the death of Eddie’s former policing partner, Bushy. When a body is discovered in a remote town, they are flung into a new sweatier, stickier investigation.

Filming has wrapped in the croc-infested waters of the Northern Territories and moved to Brisbane’s studios in Queensland.

Prime Video, Guesswork Television, and Ok Great Productions, with the support of Screen Queensland and Screen Territory, today announced that production has started on Deadloch Season 2. Filming on the six-part season is currently taking place in the Northern Territory, including Darwin and surrounds, before production moves to Brisbane, Queensland.

While a premiere date has not been announced yet, Deadloch Season 2 will launch globally on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories.

Created and written by powerhouse comedy minds Kate McCartney and Kate McLennan, the second season features the return of lead stars Kate Box and Madeleine Sami in their roles as detectives Dulcie Collins and Eddie Redcliffe, along with Nina Oyama as Abby Matsuda and Alicia Gardiner as Cath York.

Deadloch Unlocked

Production has begun in Darwin, Northern Territory, on season 2 of Prime Video’s Australian comedy series “Deadloch.” Filming will later relocate to Brisbane, Queensland.

The first season saw two very different female detectives thrown together to solve the murder of a man and was set in Tasmania. While the second season sees the return of Kate Box and Madeleine Sami as detectives Dulcie Collins and Eddie Redcliffe, they are joined by Steve Bisley (“The Great Gatsby”), Shari Sebbens (“The Sapphires”), writer Jean Tong (“Heartbreak High”) and in their acting debut role, Genevieve Morris, Byron Coll, Nikki Britton, Anthony J Sharpe, Blake Pavey, Damien Garvey, Ngali Shaw, Bev Killick, Ling Cooper-Tang, Ursula Yovich, Syd Brisbane, Ines English and Lennox Monaghan.

“Deadloch” S2 is created and written by Kate McCartney and Kate McLennan who also serve as executive producers alongside Kevin Whyte and Tanya Phegan from Guesswork Television. Andy Walker is the producer.

Deadloch is heading north. Amazon Prime Video Australia’s hit comic murder mystery drama has begun production on its second season, and relocates the action from Tasmania to the sweltering heat and humidity of the Northern Territory.

In June, it was revealed that Amazon had renewed Deadloch. On Friday, the streamer offered up more details including a first-look production image and casting news for season two, which sees Detective Eddie Redcliffe (Madeleine Sami) and Senior Sergeant Dulcie Collins (Kate Box) travel to Darwin to investigate the death of Eddie’s former policing partner, Bushy. However, Eddie and Dulcie are drawn into a bigger mystery when the body of a local icon is discovered in a remote town right in the middle of croc country.

NBCUniversal’s Joe Exotic series will carry an Australian flavour that goes beyond its Queensland shoot.

Aussie actors Will McNeill (Rams), Jack Scott (Hardball), Nic English (The Tailings), Benedict Hardie (The Invisible Man), Shereena Clanton (Wentworth), Alexandra Jensen (My Life is Murder), Anthony J. Sharpe (Miss Fisher & the Crypt of Tears) and Aliandra Calabrese (Perfect Messy Love) have been added to the supporting cast for the production, which is currently filming.

The series will feature English as the titular character’s first husband Brian Rhyne; Scott as Exotic’s political campaign manager Joshua Dial; Calabrese as Lauren Lowe; Jenson as Exotic’s niece Chealsi; Hardie as Agent Thomas; Sharpe as zookeeper Erik Cowie; McNeill as Big Cat Rescue volunteer Tyler; and Clanton as Susan.

Studiocanal’s road rage thriller Unhinged was the top choice again for cinemagoers in its second weekend while R&r Films’ Black Water: Abyss, director Andrew Traucki’s sequel to his 2007 cult-horror Black Water, opened on limited screens in Oz and the US.

Starved of new, wide releases, the market had to rely on holdovers as well as two French specialty films, Palace’s We’ll End Up Together and Umbrella Entertainment’s Deerskin.

The top 20 titles generated $2.1 million, 4 per cent up on the previous frame, according to Numero.

Directed by Derrick Borte and starring Russell Crowe and Caren Pistorius, Unhinged rang up $701,000 on 193 screens, easing by a mere 12 per cent, upping the total to $1.7 million.

The combination of claustrophobia, darkness, murky water and one big crocodile adds up to a decently scary time in “Black Water: Abyss,” Andrew Traucki’s belated followup to the abyss-less 2007 original he co-directed with David Nerlich. This time, the tasty humans are trapped in an underground cavern during a flash flood, making for a situation that’s unpleasant even before they discover they’ve got reptilian company.

While perhaps not as memorable as some of the movies it might remind you of (like “The Descent” and “Pitch Black”), this is still a tense thriller that nicely exploits a formulaic nature it doesn’t quite transcend. One of the first rollouts in several countries’ newly re-opened theaters abroad, “Abyss” will be releasing to U.S. drive-ins and on demand as of Aug. 7.

Screen Media has taken all North American rights to Black Water: Abyss, director Andrew Traucki’s sequel to his 2007 cult-horror Black Water.

The Queensland-shot survival thriller, starring Jessica McNamee, Luke Mitchell, Amali Golden, Benjamin Hoetjes and Anthony J. Sharpe, will get a day-and-date release August 7.

Written by John Ridley and Sarah Smith, the plot revolves around a group of friends who explore a remote cave system deep in the forests of Northern Australia when a tropical storm hits. As rising floodwaters trap them deep below the surface, something even deadlier emerges from the darkness – killer crocodiles.

Neal Kingston, Michael Robertson, and Pam Collis are the producers, with the deal negotiated between Screen Media senior vice-president of global acquisitions Seth Needle and Mike Runagall, managing director at sales agent Altitude Film Sales.

A sequel to the 2007 horror film “Black Water” about killer crocodiles has been acquired by Screen Media for theatrical and on-demand release day and date this August, it was announced Wednesday.

The North American rights for “Black Water: Abyss” were nabbed by Screen Media, a Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment company, and the movie will open on Aug. 7.

The original “Black Water” from 2007 became an underground hit, and the follow-up is a similar survival thriller about a group of friends who explore a remote cave system deep in the forests of Northern Australia when a tropical storm hits. As rising floodwaters trap them deep below the surface, something even deadlier emerges from the darkness – killer crocodiles.
