Arrow Video FrightFest announces August 2020 Short Film Programme
Image
The films may be short, but there is no shortage of scares as Arrow Video FrightFest 2020 announces its showcase of the best new short films from the UK and around the world, with six countries representing three continents. From under-the-bed monsters to monsters in front of your eyes, from the sinister and the creepy to the wickedly human and the not-so-human, this year’s selection shines a spotlight on upcoming filmmakers.

The UK is represented with a record eleven entries. There are world premiere screenings for Werewolf, where game night just got dangerous, A Bit Of Fun, where a girls’ night in brings out the dead and The Beholder, in which you’d be wise to beware the eyes of strangers…

Homeland talent is further highlighted with Flesh Control, which will surely bug you and in The Afterlife Bureau who says there is no paperwork when you’re dead? Staying...

Trailer for the sci-fi short Light Masters
Here is a production trailer for a cool sci-fi short called Light Masters, which was written and directed by Kelly Rigg. The short stars Teresa Decher, Clare Grant and Seth Green. It rips off a lot of style from the Matrix Trilogy, but it is still pretty cool and creative. For an indie short, the production value is pretty cool. How many shorts can say that they have Seth Green playing a Nazi psychic, not many!

Plot Description:

The forces of Evil have infected humanity with the fear virus, making us believe we are separate and alone. A savior has been born, she alone has the ability to crack the ancient code to start the cosmic download of the next level of consciousness. Her time is running out because the download is only possible when our Earth and Sun are in direct alignment with the Milky Way. This alignment only...

Harold and Kumar Get Superpowers — Er, I Mean, it’s Superseeds!
What if stoner buddies Harold and Kumar got superpowers? Well, they’d probably be a little like writer/director Kholi Hicks’ “Avery and Pete: Superspeeds”, an indie comedy/superhero movie with definite potential (stick with it, the trailer gets progressively better). The film stars Ricky Faust and Keye Dusan Chen as buddies who stumble across pills that grant them cool superpowers, and features Cody Deal (late of “The Almighty Thor”, not to be confused with that other Thor guy) as the sorta villain. The trailer features plenty of slick CGI, especially for the budget Hicks and company had to work with. According to producer/co-star Teresa Decher, they were working with a $17,000 budget. You could probably buy a bag of peanuts with that on a Michael Bay movie set. Set in an urban, modern-day, economic-distraught Los Angeles, Superseeds follows best friends and roommates Avery and Pete in a race to curtail disaster in their city.

Feature Film Online: Bob Moricz’s Bumps
Bumps, by Portland-based underground filmmaker Bob Moricz, is a brutally raw and honest fictionalization of the infamous “pregnancy pact” made by a group of teenage girls several years ago at Gloucester High School in Massachusetts. The film is a true collaboration between Moricz and his cast of six extremely talented, natural young actresses, all of whom share writing and directing credit with the filmmaker.

Actually, whether there ever was a real pregnancy pact made in Gloucester is up for debate. While several girls did get pregnant simultaneously at that high school, the idea that they did it in collusion may have just been a fever dream conjured up by the principal.

However, Moricz and his cast fiercely forge ahead as if the story is true and come up with a troubling tale of wayward girls gone wrong. I’m assuming the entire film was improvised through its painfully genuine and naturalistic overall feel.
