This review contains Spoilers for all five episodes of The Walk-In
Any drama that has a first episode including the line ‘Where Hitler went wrong is he showed mercy’ is going to be a difficult watch, and ITV’s true-crime offering The Walk-In certainly goes in hard from the off. Its very first scene depicts a brutal 2015 terrorist attack – white nationalist Zack Davies storms into a Welsh supermarket to attack dentist Dr Sarandev Bhambra with a machete while screaming ‘white power’ – effectively establishing how unflinchingly this series will deal with its central theme.
Screenwriter Jeff Pope’s latest drama tells the true story of how – as part of his work with advocacy group Hope Not Hate – Matthew Collins (played by Line of Duty and This Is England‘s Stephen Graham) infiltrated UK far-right terrorist groups in order to stop a plot to murder a second MP following the attack on...

That jeopardy is on full display in ITV’s five-part true crime thriller, The Walk-In, a look at the rise of the National Action terror group in the wake of the murder of MP Jo Cox. Thankfully, this gritty, disturbing drama manages to squeeze pathos out of one of the most troubling stories in recent British history.
Is there a better actor working in British television, right now, than Stephen Graham? After last year’s one-two punch of Time and Help (not to mention The North Water and Peaky Blinders), Graham returns to screens as Matthew Collins, a far-right activist turned antifascist campaigner and journalist. After last year’s one-two punch of Time and Help (not to mention The North Water and Peaky Blinders), Graham returns to screens as Matthew Collins, a far-right activist turned antifascist campaigner and journalist. There is always a danger when television executives – who live, predominantly, in four-bedroom London townhouses, picking up oat milk flat whites before electric bicycling their way into Soho – decide to depict the lives of working-class northerners.

On 1 July 2017, Jack Renshaw walked into a Wetherspoons in Warrington, sat down and told his friends he was going to assassinate an MP.
Then aged 22, he was part of neo-Nazi terrorist group National Action and wanted to seek fellow members’ opinions on his planned attack.
Renshaw told them how he would murder Rosie Cooper, his local Labour MP, with a machete and then take hostages.
He wanted to lure in a police officer who had been investigating him for child sex offences, murder her in revenge and force armed police to shoot him dead.
Among the six other National Action members listening was Robbie Mullen. Unknown to Jack Renshaw and the rest of the terrorist group, he had already turned informant for counter-extremism organisation Hope Not Hate.
“I was saving myself in a way, I knew something was going to happen eventually,” he tells The Independent. “Things were just getting strange – with Jack especially.

I can’t remember watching a home invasion horror movie for a long time and then two come along at once. First, I watched By Night’s End and then The Owners comes along… I wouldn’t say it’s a sub genre I love but it has produced some really great movies – the likes of The Strangers, You’re Next, Don’t Breathe, Inside and Hush are all highly entertaining.
There is a tendency for lower budget home invasion offerings to go down the same path and stick to ideas that have been used time and time again. Meaning that many feel very samey. The Owners, at the very least, does try to do things a little bit different. So much so, that at about the...

Selection by Frightfest is a pretty good recommendation for a horror film. This one promises crime as well, and a tense stand-off with the promise of action - but let's face it, that's not why most people will watch it. Its biggest selling point is that people want to see who will win in a fight between Doctor Who and Arya Stark.
Seventh Doctor Sylvester McCoy plays Richard Huggins, the local Gp in a small English town, who lives in a handsome detached house with his beloved wife Ellen (Rita Tushingham), who is beginning to succumb to dementia.. Game Of Thrones alumna Maisie Williams plays Mary, a local girl whose only mistake is having become attached to low quality boyfriend Nathan (Ian Kenny) when, to be fair, there probably aren't many good quality boyfriend candidates around. Certainly not his friend Terry (Andrew Ellis) who was married to her twin sister.

Writer/director Julius Berg's feature film debut is an unexpectedly fun thriller that bucks expectations.
The Owners stars Jake Curran, Andrew Ellis and Ian Kenny as Gaz, Terry and Nathan, a trio of friends who hatch a plan to break into the home of a local wealthy doctor, crack the safe and get away with the loot. It's a full-proof plan: they know when the doctor and his wife will be way, they know where the safe is and they have a safe cracker but the plan starts to fall apart almost immediately. Mary, (Maisie Williams), Nathan's girlfriend, comes looking for him and causing all sorts of trouble, the safe isn't the type that the crew came prepared to crack and just as the would-be thieves come up with a new plan to get the loot, they're faced with the fact that the meek docto...

"I've told you a thousand times... shoes off at the door!" Rlje Films has released the trailer for a horror thriller titled The Owners, marking the feature directorial debut of French filmmaker Julius Berg. A group of friends think they find an easy score at an empty house with a safe full of cash. But when the owners, an elderly couple, come home early, the tables are suddenly turned. Conceptually this looks like the typical rob-a-big-house-that-looks-empty horror concept mashed up with The Visit. This nice elderly couple are actually maniacs who are going to torture you! Watch out, they are not so nice after all... The Owners stars Maisie Williams, with Sylvester McCoy and Rita Tushingham as the charming Huggins, plus Ian Kenny, Jake Curran, Andrew Ellis, and Stacha Hicks. This definitely looks creepy! But mostly for horror fans. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Julius Berg's The Owners,...

It has to be said that 2017 hasn’t been the best year when it comes to feeling good about the world. When everybody seems to be against helping out others, it seems timely that a film about two cultures coming together should at least raise a smile, and Dough manages this.
When aging Jewish baker Nat Dyan (Jonathan Pryce) takes on young Muslim Ayyash (Jerome Holder) as apprentice in his shop, at first, they don’t get on. When Ayyash accidentally drops cannabis into the bakery’s dough the bakery becomes very popular, building a bond between the two.
Dough walks a well-trodden path of movies where two people with differences are brought together when prejudices are taken away and friendship blooms.

Dough walks a well-trodden path of movies where two people with differences are brought together when prejudices are taken away and friendship blooms.

This is the end of This Is England - and bringing his powerful working-class saga to a close would seem no mean feat for series mastermind Shane Meadows. Both the original movie and its TV spinoffs have been of a spectacularly high quality, Meadows' truthful scripts and the scarily authentic performances of the cast fostering our deep investment in the characters.
That said, last week's episode was a devastating outpouring of emotion that set the stage superbly for this grand finale, with Milky (Andrew Shim) plotting revenge on Combo (Stephen Graham) - the reformed thug who once viciously assaulted him.
In its final TV outing, This Is England finally addresses that brutal moment from the '03 film - something that until now it's always danced around. There's a feeling of coming full circle that permeates this finale from the off, Meadows opening with one last example of his trademark montage.

Last week, This Is England '90 served up a comparatively breezy opener - the calm before the storm, as actor Andrew Shim (Milky) remarked of Shane Meadows' work: "There's always going to be a dark day coming at some point."
Episode two again opens with a comic sequence; the charismatic Harvey - now Woody's replacement as the group's de-facto leader - pokes fun at the hapless Gadget, and there's some laugh-out-loud delivery from the show's secret weapon, Michael Socha ("There's a f**king bag within a bag here, dude!").
It's the summer of love, 1990, and rave culture is sweeping the nation - again, Meadows delivers more sunshine and happiness than we're accustomed to, and is still aiming for big, broad laughs with the continued presence of Flip and Higgy (even if Joe Dempsie's underplayed idiocy remains more effective than Perry Fitzpatrick's more excessive antics).
But that sickening...

Stephen Graham is set to make his anticipated comeback as the incarcerated Combo in Shane Meadows's This Is England '90.
The British actor - who has just teamed up with co-star Thomas Turgoose to raise money for Stand up to Cancer - revealed to Digital Spy that Combo will return as a "reformed figure".
The Channel 4 series is writer and director Meadows's final follow-up to 2010's This Is England '86 and 2011's This Is England '88 - all of which were off-shoots from the 2006 movie This Is England.
The first episode surprised fans with its unexpectedly sunny and laugh-out-loud start for the gang - which includes Gadget (Andrew Ellis), Shaun (Thomas Turgoose), Milky (Andrew Shim), Lol (Vicky McClure) and Woody (Joe Gilgun).
But Graham gave us a resounding "no" when we asked if it was going to stay that way.
"It's what Shane [Meadows] does," the Boardwalk Empire star explained.

"De-de-de-ding-ding / dig-a-dig-a-ding / a-flinky-flonk / wanky-shank ding-dong."
So this is England, 1990 - and Shane Meadows' latest follow-on from his 2006 film appears, on the surface, to be the saga's sunniest outing to date.
Our first reunion with the gang - 2010's This Is England '86 - was perhaps the most bleak. Replete with rape, murder and betrayal, it was to be admired rather than enjoyed.
The following year's '88 didn't spare the heartbreak either, but ended on a more optimistic note - and the beginning of '90 follows through on that, kicking off with a more positive outlook.
First episode 'Spring' - the four episodes being divided into the four seasons - opens with some good-natured larks, as Gadget (Andrew Ellis), Shaun (Thomas Turgoose) and Milky (Andrew Shim) wangle a free school lunch off of dinner lady kitchen boss Lol (Vicky McClure).

It's 10 years since cameras started rolling on Shane Meadows' seminal This Is England and now the award-winning saga is about to draw to a close, with This Is England '90 launching on Channel 4 this Sunday.
The Berlin Wall and Margaret Thatcher have fallen, tie-dye and bowl cuts are in vogue and there's plenty of sex, drugs and all-night raves - but This Is England's final TV outing also explores how old friends grow apart over time.
"This series, as it unfolds, we start to look at the summer of love - and the drugs become more serious," says Meadows. "Things start to change - for the better for some, and for the worse for others."
For the cast, This Is England '90 brings to an end an epic journey they never expected to embark upon. "I don't think any of us ever thought that we'd do any sort...
