John Wick star Donnie Yen does what he does best in last year’s action thriller The Prosecutor, with the movie now receiving an exciting release update that will allow more fans to watch the action icon deliver justice both in and out of the courtroom.

The Prosecutor has now been picked up for distribution by Signature Entertainment, with the intention of releasing the action outing in the United Kingdom and Ireland on digital from June 16 and on Blu-ray on June 23. This latest update regarding Donnie Yen’s latest thriller comes following the news that the movie is now all set to land on 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray in the United States later this month on May 27, 2025.

“Donnie Yen has time and again proven himself to be the ultimate action master of our time,” said Signature Entertainment’s acquisitions and development executive Max Hart following the acquisition of the action movie from Mandarin Motion Pictures.

U.K. production, sales and distribution outfit Signature Entertainment has acquired the U.K. and Irish rights to the action thriller The Prosecutor, directed by and starring Hong Kong superstar Donnie Yen (Ip Man), from Mandarin Motion Pictures.

The feature, produced by Yen and Raymond Pak-Ming Wong (Ip Man franchise) and written by Edmond Wong (Ip Man franchise), is also directed by Yen. The film stars Yen, Julian Cheung (The Grandmaster), Francis Ng (Infernal Affairs II), Kent Cheng (Why Me?), Michael Hui (Teppanyaki), and Kong Lau (Hard Boiled).

The action movie, inspired by an actual legal case in Hong Kong, follows a man who pleads guilty to drug trafficking after being framed. “Despite the confession, the veteran policeman-turned-prosecutor handling the case is convinced of the man’s innocence and pursues his own investigation, risking both his career and his life to bring the real perpetrator to justice,” according to a plot synopsis.

Throughout the "Ip Man" franchise's run, there's been an awkward question plaguing the popular film series. The Donnie Yen-led action movies have proven incredibly successful in their native Hong Kong and mainland China, also managing to gain fans internationally. Combined, the four movies have earned almost 422 million at the global box office, telling an exaggerated and often downright fabricated version of the life of the eponymous Wing Chun grandmaster.

Since "Ip Man" released in 2008, Yen, along with his director Wilson Yip and producer Raymond Wong (both of whom are Hong Kong natives), have returned time and time again to the story of the real-life Ip Man as inspiration for their fantastical retelling. As Yen said when promoting "Ip Man 3" in 2016, while his character is "based on a real person," he and the production team "didn't want to make a documentary," instead aiming to "create a new type of hero on film.

Line-up includes 10 docs and 11 fiction films, mostly from Asia, with several European productions and co-productions.

New works from filmmakers including Chang Tso-chi, Huang Ji, Pierre Sarraf, Tan Chui Mui and Jessey Tsang are among the 21 projects selected for the Work-in-Progress section (Wip) of this year’s Hong Kong Asia Film Financing Forum (Haf).

The Wip projects will be presented online alongside the main programme of Haf (March 15-17) and Hong Kong Filmart (March 15-18). Most are at the post-production stage, with several currently in production. The line-up includes 10 documentaries and 11 fiction films, mostly from Asia, with several European productions and co-productions.

Flat-footed storytelling meets fleet-footed choreography and sumptuous production values in the untaxingly fun “Ip Man 4: The Finale,” the last installment of director Wilson Yip and producer-star Donnie Yen’s glossy mythmaking tetralogy about the famous Wing Chun master.

The insistent subtitle is there for a reason: everyone, Yen included, thought that “Ip Man 3” would be his last time donning Ip Man’s priestlike tunic. Then again, after “Ip Man 2,” still the best in the franchise, Yen was also reportedly reluctant to return. Ip Man 2, from Cine Asia, is a semi-biographical martial arts film loosely based on the life of Wing Chun grandmaster, Ip Man. The film was directed by Wilson Yip and Sammo Hung, produced by Raymond Wong, written by Edmond Wong, and stars martial arts legend, Donnie Yen, who reprises the leading role.

This sequel continues on from events in the first Ip Man film, and covers Ip Man’s life in Hong Kong, which was at the time under British colonial rule, and recovering from the Japanese invasion of China. Ip Man’s main hurdles are his reduced circumstances, British oppression, and rivalry from other martial arts practitioners, including the local Hung Ga master Hung Chun-nam, as played by Sammo Hung.

Korean actor Lee Min-ho will star in the upcoming movie ‘Bounty Hunters’ alongside Wallace Chung (Monster Hunt), Tiffany Tang (East Meets West), and Karena Ng (Ip Man 3). ‘Bounty Hunters’ is one of a growing list of big-budget joint ventures between Chinese and Korean production companies to be released in 2016.

According to Filmcatalogue.com, the movie centers on a team of bounty hunters gathered by an FBI agent to capture a wanted man. Filming began in August 2015 and features locations in Asia such as South Korea, Hong Kong, China, and Thailand.

Korean director Shin Terra (My Girlfriend is an Agent) is at the helm of this action-adventure film and Edmond Wong of the Ip Man film series penned the script.

Dynamic, relentless and funnier than its predecessor, Ip Man 2 is the flashier, hipper and better looking of the first two films about the life of the Wing Chun grandmaster Yip Man. That said, the original Ip Man is in my opinion the better film and one of my favourite martial arts movies of all time. Now the question is, how will Ip Man 3 do?

Exclusive: Latest instalment of biopic action franchise sells to Well Go USA.

Well Go USA has snapped up North America and a slew of other territories on Pegasus Motion Pictures’ Ip Man 3, an ambitious 3D installment in the biopic action franchise starring Donnie Yen.

Well Go has also bought France, Germany, UK, Benelux, Nordic territories and Latin America on the $36m film which reunites Yen with producer Raymond Wong, director Wilson Yip and writer Edmond Wong.

Production is scheduled to start in early 2015.

“This film focuses on the master-student relationship between Ip Man and Bruce Lee,” said Edmond Wong. “It also portrays Ip Man at a stage when he is searching for the real meaning in life.”

In this biopic, Donnie Yen is Ip Man, one of the earliest Wing Chun martial arts exponents and the man credited to have elevated its popularity in the early parts of the 20th century. Best known for his role as Bruce Lee’s first mentor, Ip Man is godlike amongst martial arts fans. As far as biopics goes, Ip Man isn’t really award-winning material. The picture takes plenty of liberties with the facts of the legendary practitioner of the Southern Chinese fighting style. I couldn’t believe my eyes when i first seen that Donnie Yen will be returning to the Ip Man series, this time the movie will be shot in 3D. To see this on the big screen in 3D would be amazing, so i’m hoping this will get a world wide release (One can dream i guess).

Ip Man 2 is the latest DVD release from Cine Asia, and is a semi-biographical martial arts film loosely based on the life of Wing Chun grandmaster, Ip Man. The film was directed by Wilson Yip & Sammo Hung, produced by Raymond Wong, written by Edmond Wong, and stars martial arts legend, Donnie Yen, who reprises the leading role.

This sequel continues on from events in the first Ip Man film, and covers Ip Man’s life in Hong Kong, which was at the time under British colonial rule, and recovering from the Japanese invasion of China. Ip Man’s main hurdles are his reduced circumstances, British oppression, and rivalry from other martial arts practitioners, including the local Hung Ga master Hung Chun-nam, as played by Sammo Hung.

Before I say anything about IP Man 2, you simply must see IP Man first. Why? Because it is a blast that has a lot of heart, even if it takes extreme liberties with the history of Ip Man and the rise of the Wing Chun fighting style. When one of his greatest pupils happens to be the legendary Bruce Lee, you know the fighting style is something to watch. In order to enjoy IP Man 2, you don’t have to see the first, but since you have time between now and the early 2011 theatrical release by Well Go USA, you might as well. The fights in IP Man 2 are some of the best by fight choreographer Sammo Hung, who faces off against Donnie Yen as both choreographer and opponent for the first time. Released in 2008 the first Ip Man film was a critical and box office hit. Part of a recent wave of high budget martial arts films coming out of Hong Kong and China that draw on the wealth of talent that the countries have to offer, often casting big stars from the late eighties/early nineties who are a little older now but can still pull off some impressive stunts and martial arts moves. One such actor is Donnie Yen who stars in Ip Man 1 and 2 as the titular hero.

Beginning in 1950 the film picks up the story of Ip Man as he attempts to open a martial arts club in Hong Kong. Here he is met with opposition from rival club masters and their leader Hung Jan Nam, played by martial arts legend Sammo Hung. Ip Man 2 is not about ass-kicking Sifu (Master) Ip Man showing Westerners who's boss. It's not even about proving oneself in the face of adversity. At the core, the film advocates spirit, self-cultivation, and foremost, respect among people of all races and backgrounds. But don't let that scare you away--while the message seems preachy, the visually stunning fight sequences, paired with witty characters and relatable relationships, will have you at the edge of your seat, believing every word and teaching Master Ip has to offer.
