An Exclusive First Look At Skydance's Behemoth's Epic Graphic Novel
Image
Upcoming VR adventure game Skydance's Behemoth will receive a special graphic novel expansion. The recently announced collaboration with author Matt Forbeck brings new immersive lore to the game's canon. The graphic novel adds depth to the Forsaken Lands, Behemoths, & characters pre-game.

Skydances Behemoth is a new fantasy adventure title that pushes the limits of the latest generation of VR technology. The title comes from developer Skydance Interactive, which previously produced the well-received The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners series. This time, instead of taking down walkers, players will face Behemoths - large monsters that roam the Forsaken Lands, scaling the giant beasts in first person.

The game draws inspiration from games like Shadow of the Colossus and other monster fighting adventures while also cultivating its own identity - an identity which the team recently announced will be further cultivated by a special graphic novel companion. Since Behemoth drops players right into...

New ‘Halo’ Novel Picks Up Where ‘Halo 5: Guardians’ Left Off
“Halo: Bad Blood” is the latest original full-length novel to join the “Halo” expanded universe, and it’s available to purchase now. Written by bestselling author and game designer Matt Forbeck, it continues the storyline from “Halo 5: Guardians.”

Given that it’s going to be quite some time before we hear anything about the recently-announced “Halo Infinite,” this novel should help tie up some loose ends and offer a bit more insight into the world of “Halo” for fans. There are a purported two years that take place between “Halo 5: Guardians” and “Infinite,” after all. What ended up happening during that time?

The narrative follows the Spartans from Blue Team and Fireteam Osiris as they struggle to remain one step ahead of the rampant artificial intelligence Cortana. Spartan Edward Buck is the focal point of the narrative, taking on a secret mission to help reclaim some ground after Cortana’s devious advances.

Horror Comedy InSpectres Getting a Theatrical Release in September
What with today being Independence Day, we thought we'd take a moment to pass on some good news about an independent film that has landed exclusive theatrical distribution with Muvico - Reactor 88 Studios' horror comedy InSpectres.

The film will screen exclusively at Muvico locations, beginning with the world premiere on September 6th, 2013, in Rosemont, Illinois.

InSpectres' journey to the big screen has been a long one. Development began in late 2009 with all principal photography completed by October 2010. It was shot in the Midwest, mostly in the Chicagoland area where it will premiere. Based on the role-playing game by creator Jared A. Sorensen, the script was written by award-winning novelist and game designer Matt Forbeck and game designer J.A. Dohm. Press Release:

What happens when mystery, sorcery, different planes of existence, comic books, and trading card gaming collide? A brand-new Magic: The Gathering® miniseries, of course!

Continuing the blockbuster success of the eponymous first series, writer Matt Forbeck and artist Martín Cóccolo bring further adventures of Planeswalker Dack Fayden in Magic: The Gathering: The Spell Thief! “Dack is back!” says series writer Matt Forbeck. “And I’m thrilled that [series artist] Martin Cóccolo and I get to tell more of his story. He’s hot on the trail of Sifa Grent, the woman who destroyed his hometown, and it’s only a matter of time before the Multiverse’s greatest thief tracks her down—if he survives that long.” Forbeck laughs. “Poor Dack. Book Review: Carpathia By Matt Forbeck
I don’t usually read historical fiction or horror. So when an advanced copy of Carpathia by Matt Forbeck landed on my kindle, I wasn’t sure what to expect. But by the next morning, after barely sleeping a wink, I can honestly say I am now a fan of both historical fiction and horror, as long as Matt Forbeck is the author.

As the Titanic sinks into the icy depths of the ocean, desperate survivors are rescued by the ship Carpathia. The problem is, stowed away on Carpathia is a group of blood-sucking vampires! Stuck on a ship in the middle of the Atlantic, things go from bad to horrific for the harrowed survivors. But this isn’t just a one-dimensional tale about vampires versus humans. A power struggle builds within the vampire ranks between the wise Dushko and an upstart blood thirsty Brody over when dinner should be...

Matt Forbeck Wants To Write 12 Novels In 12 Months
Matt Forbeck, author of Amortals, Vegas Knights, and The Mutant Chronicles novelization, the Magic: The Gathering comic for Idw, and creator of the Brave New World RPG (with concepts that predated Marvel’s Civil War by years), is setting an ambitious goal for himself, and is asking for you to help torture him:

I’d like to write a dozen novels in 2012, and I want you to dare me to do it.

This is the first part of my 12 for ’12 project, a year-long challenge in which I plan to write a novel every month in 2012.

It may not be as insane as it sounds. By novel, I mean a work of fiction that’s at least 50,000 words, a bit shorter than most my novels, which tend toward 80,000 words. The Hugo, Nebula, and World Fantasy Awards each define a novel as anything over 40,000 words, but I want to be a bit more ambitious.

Book Review: Star Wars Vs. Star Trek: Could the Empire Kick the Federation’s Ass?
Star Wars vs. Star Trek

Could the Empire kick the Federation's Ass?

... and other galaxy-shaking enigmas

Paperback | Kindle

By Matt Forbeck

Adams Media

Release Date: May 18, 2011

I was really curious going into this book, mostly about how someone could write an unbiased novel on which school of sci-fi was better. As it turns out, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that Star Wars vs. Star Trek isn't a novel at all. Instead, author Matt Forbeck created what I consider to be a very nicely divided series of comparisons. Think of it as a sort of Celebrity Deathmatch in book form. I laughed, I cried, I rejoiced.

I'm a Star Wars fan, hands down. I waited in line in 1977 to see the first one and repeated that for every single movie thereafter (even the prequels). Heck, I even have a Stormtrooper tattoo and commonly quote Yoda. I always wanted to be Boba Fett growing up,...

This film completed earlier this month and already the film is slated to show in various cities. Check out the action in the trailer below.

Review: 'The Marvel Encyclopedia - Updated and Expanded'
The Marvel Encyclopedia, Updated and Expanded

400 pages, Dk Books, $40

These days, you can’t follow Marvel’s or DC’s continuities without a scorecard and thankfully more than a few reference sources have arrived to help out. The latest is Dk’s 70th Anniversary contribution, a revised version of 2006’s The Marvel Encyclopedia. What a difference three years can make to continuity.

The key difference in the editions is the addition of pages, bringing the total to a hefty 400 pages. Dk did everyone a favor and kept the cover price consistent at $40. Frank Cho’s cover is replaced with a Brandon Peterson piece that attempts to reflect the full history of the Marvel heroes. Matt Forbeck deftly took the original text, written by a quintet of experts such as Tom DeFalco and Peter Sanderson, and brought dozens of entries up to date in addition to adding entirely new ones where warranted.
