I work at home in my study, which is a beautiful room on the second floor of an old brownstone in Brooklyn. It looks out on our backyard, which is currently a wasteland of sand and weeds, but will eventually - somehow, possibly magically - turn into a magnificent garden. The great thing about my study is that it's connected by a secret passage to my bedroom, so in theory I could jump out of bed in the middle of the night and sneak into my study and write down brilliant ideas. Though, usually, I go the other way - I sneak out of my study into my bedroom and take a nap.
