Gerard Butler's career began in the mid-1990s with brief appearances in the James Bond movie, Tomorrow Never Dies (1997) and Tale of the Mummy (1998). During the early 2000s, Butler continued to star in franchise films, playing the eponymous role in Dracula 2000 and appearing in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life (2003).

Butler achieved major fame as King Leonidas in Zack Snyder's 300 (2007). Beginning in 2010, he voiced Stoick the Vast in the animated How to Train Your Dragon franchise and reprised the role in the recent live-action remake. The same decade, he starred as a Secret Service agent in three Has Fallen movies.

Butler continued building his action résumé with roles in Geostorm (2017), Den of Thieves (2018), and the disaster drama Greenland (2020). In 2023, he starred in the airborne thriller Plane, and now, one of Gerard Butler's action thrillers has gained unexpected popularity on streaming.

Kandahar is a spy action thriller film directed by Ric Roman Waugh from a screenplay by Mitchell Lafortune. The 2023 film is loosely based on true events, and it follows Tom Harris, a freelance undercover operative working for the CIA with his translator.

After their boat capsizes in the Mediterranean Sea, a group of refugees are rescued by rich Europeans who offer them shelter on an idyllic island. But the miracle soon becomes a nightmare when the saviours turn into ruthless manhunters. Filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj, who has recently collaborated with actor Ali Fazal for the spy thriller ‘Khufiya’, shared how he was fascinated by the latter’s previous performances, saying he was looking for an opportunity to work with him.

Ali is best known for his role of Guddu Pandit in the action crime thriller web series ‘Mirzapur’. Apart from Ali, it also stars Pankaj Tripathi, Shweta Tripathi Shamra, Divyenndu, Vikrant Massey, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Rasika Dugal, Harshita Gaur and Kulbhushan Kharbanda in pivotal roles.

The actor is also known for his work in projects like ‘3 Idiots’, ‘Fukrey’, ‘Sonali Cable’, ‘Milan Talkies’, amongst many others.

In the Vishal Bhardwaj directorial ‘Khufiya’, Ali plays the character of Ravi Mohan.

Talking about casting Ali in the film, the National Film Award-winning director told Ians: “I have been seeing him for such a long time. Everyone has seen his work in ‘Mirzapur’. Entire country loved his performance.

Mumbai, June 13 (Ians) The upcoming action-thriller film ‘Kandahar’ which stars Gerard Butler and Ali Fazal is set to release on Ott platform Prime Video on June 16.
