Even After 7 Years, How To Get Away With Murder's Biggest Death Still Shocks Me
Image
How to Get Away with Murder shocked audiences with Wes' death, a bold move that reignited the show's creative direction. Killing off Wes in season 3 allowed the series to focus on other characters' depth and storylines, refreshing its narrative. The risky decision to kill off a key character like Wes saved the show from creative stagnation, leading to a more engaging plot.

How to Get Away with Murder never shied away from big twists, and I still can't believe the series went through with killing off a member of the Keating 5. How to Get Away with Murder worked well since each season had a central mystery focusing on a murder. By the time season 3 hit the air, the storylines started to stall, and I recall wondering how the show could bounce back creatively. TV shows are often afraid of alienating audiences by killing off beloved characters, but How to Get Away with Murder...

Hollywood Stars Who've Donated $1M+ Each To Support Actors Strike Revealed: Jackman, DiCaprio, Oprah & More
Image
A-list actors like George Clooney, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Meryl Streep have generously donated $1 million or more to the SAG-AFTRA Foundation's Emergency Assistance Program. The donations will provide financial support to entertainment professionals who are currently without income because of the strike, helping them with essential expenses such as rent and food. This solidarity among actors demonstrates their commitment to securing fair compensation, reasonable streaming residuals, and regulation of artificial intelligence in the entertainment industry.

A-list actors have donated large sums to entertainment professionals during the SAG-AFTRA strike. The Screen Actors Guild went on strike beginning July 14, when negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) stalled and failed to produce a new contract that secured fair compensation, reasonable streaming residuals, and regulation of AI. This was followed by actors joining the picket lines alongside the Writers Guild of America (WGA), who have been on strike since...

Netflix Slammed By Orange Is The New Black & Gilmore Girls Actors Over Poor Residuals

Stars from both the Orange is the New Black and Gilmore Girls casts are not holding back in their frustrations with Netflix amid the ongoing actors strike. Netflix is one of the many streaming platforms under target from both SAG-AFTRA and the Writer's Guild of America in the ongoing actor and writers strikes, calling for fairer wages, namely in regard to the residuals they receive from projects on said streamers. Both guilds are also raising concerns over increasing use of artificial intelligence in regard to production and losing their jobs.

"I Kept My Day Job": Orange Is The New Black Stars Open Up On Being Underpaid By Netflix
Image
Orange Is the New Black stars are opening up about how they were underpaid by Netflix. Released from 2013 to 2019, the Netflix original series follows a diverse cast of female inmates in a minimum-security federal prison in Upstate New York. Though Orange Is the New Black was one of Netflix's most-watched, widely acclaimed, and longest-running original series, it appears some of its cast members weren't always compensated fairly for their work.

A decade after the series first premiered, several members of the Orange Is the New Black cast are opening up about being underpaid by Netflix. Kimiko Glenn recently reposted a video on Instagram highlighting the issue, which earned several supportive responses from her former castmates:

‘Orange Is the New Black’ Supporting Cast Say They Were Never Fairly Compensated for Netflix Hit
Image
Orange Is the New Black helped put Netflix on the map. Now, several of the supporting stars on the trailblazing prison dramedy are looking back on the show’s breakout and continued success to ask why they weren’t fairly compensated.

Their questions, coming as the Jenji Kohan-created series celebrates the 10-year anniversary of its July 11, 2013, premiere, surfaced in a New Yorker story published ahead of SAG-AFTRA announcing an actors strike after the union failed to reach a deal with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) group of studios and streamers. And many of the Oitnb castmembers’ woes reflect the issues at heart of the tense negotiations between SAG and the AMPTP.

Ten Oitnb recurring stars (some who were later upped to series regulars) — including Kimiko Glenn, Alysia Reiner, Beth Dover, Emma Myles, Diane Guerrero, Taryn Manning and Lea DeLaria — spoke with writer Michael Schulman about...

How To Get Away With Murder: Who Are The Keating 5, Explained
Image
Shonda Rhimes's legal drama How to Get Away with Murder has twists throughout all six seasons, and the Keating 5 are caught up in the show's central mystery. Annalise Keating (Viola Davis) chooses the members each year from her law class at Middleton University. Bonnie Winterbottom (Liza Weil) was once part of this group and is now Annalise's assistant. It's an honor to be asked, and it doesn't appear that anyone ever turns down the opportunity. While it appears that Annalise picks people based on intelligence, there are more riveting and powerful reasons why these students make it.

The Keating 5 wind up in trouble when they kill Annalise's husband, Sam Keating (Tom Verica), after it comes out that he was unfaithful and dated Lila Stangard (Megan West). “Archive 81” will not receive a second season on Netflix, TheWrap has learned.

The series, from creator Rebecca Sonnenshine, starred Mamoudou Athie as video archivist Dan Turner, who was restoring tapes in the present, originally shot by Melody Pendras (Dina Shihabi) in 1994 at the mysterious Visser apartment building.

‘Archive 81’ Star Dina Shihabi on That Family Secret, How Melody and Dan Could Connect in a Season 2
Image
Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched the finale of Netflix’s “Archive 81.”

Melody Pendras (Dina Shihabi) spends the majority of the first season of Netflix’s “Archive 81” separated from the show’s other key characters, given that the camcorder-toting Visser resident’s story takes place in the ’90s and her work is being studied in the present day by archivist Dan Turner (Mamoudou Athie).

But in the final moments of the “Archive 81” Season 1 finale, Melody becomes a literal blast from the past, as she is dragged through a portal from The Otherworld dimension she has been trapped in for decades by cult-leader Samuel (Evan Jonigkeit) and falls out in front of her long-lost mother, Julia Bennett/Bobbi (Jacqueline Antaramian), and Dan’s best friend, Mark (Matt McGorry). “The Witcher,” “Stay Close,” “Cobra Kai,” “Emily in Paris,” and “Manifest” all retained their dominion on Netflix’s English-language TV Top 10 list for the second full week of 2022, while the sixth season of makeover show “Queer Eye” fell through the cracks, leaving room for newcomers “Cheer” (Season 2) and “Archive 81” to join the ranks.

“Cheer” was No. 5 on the list with roughly 29.1 million hours viewed, and horror drama “Archive 81,” from showrunner and executive producer Rebecca Sonnenshine, landed in the seventh slot with 22.2 million hours viewed. On their way out, Dan was shoved back into the post-Visser-apartment-building-fire timeline in 1994 New York City, while Melody was dragged by cult-leader Samuel (Evan Jonigkeit) through the present-day door Dan had entered.

And yes, Dan really has been blasted into the past, and is not trapped in The Otherworld being fooled with another one of Kaelego’s close-enough-to-reality fantasies, according to “Archive 81” showrunner Rebecca Sonnenshine.

“I can tell you that he is in the ’90s,...

‘Archive 81’ Trailer: Netflix Horror Series Asks ‘What Is Going on in This Building?’
Image
When it comes to living in New York City, few things are as scary as real estate. But in Netflix’s “Archive 81,” premiering January 14 on the streamer, it’s not the rent or the rodents that terrify. It’s “pioneers of the imagination,” according to the trailer.

At least, that’s the impression given in the series’ first trailer. Based on the three-season podcast of the same name, the upcoming horror thriller finds a video archivist Dan (Mamoudou Athie) attempting to restore VHS tapes damaged in a fire. And as everyone from “The Ring” to “V/H/S/” knows, there’s nothing more frightening than what lies on analog.

Sure enough, Dan is able to restore some tapes just enough to become enmeshed in documentarian Melody’s 1994 exploration of a NYC apartment building, where some very strange things are happening, including mask-wearing, modern dance, and some very scary tenant meetings. Not...

Archive 81 Spins a Compelling Tale in First Trailer
Dina Shihabi and Mamoudou Athie in Archive 81 (2022)
Archive 81 looks set to thrill viewers this January.

Netflix on Wednesday unveiled the full-length trailer for the series that follows an archivist restoring a collection of damaged tapes from 1994.

There are thriller elements peppered throughout the trailer as the man tries to find out the truth about what really happened.

Here is the official description from Netflix:

Archive 81 follows archivist Dan Turner (Mamoudou Athie), who takes a job restoring a collection of damaged videotapes from 1994.

Reconstructing the work of a documentary filmmaker named Melody Pendras (Dina Shihabi), he is drawn into her investigation of a dangerous cult at the Visser apartment building.

As the season unfolds across these two timelines, Dan slowly finds himself obsessed with uncovering what happened to Melody.

When the two characters form a mysterious connection, Dan becomes convinced he can save her from the terrifying end she met 25 years ago.

An original story loosely...

‘Archive 81’ Trailer: Netflix Series Tells a Chilling Horror Story Across 2 Timelines
Dina Shihabi and Mamoudou Athie in Archive 81 (2022)
Netflix has unveiled the official trailer for the upcoming horror series “Archive 81,” which draws upon nostalgia for the videotape era of the 1990s to weave a chilling tale that plays out across dual timelines.

Loosely inspired by the podcast of the same name, “Archive 81” begins in present day with a character named Dan (Mamoudou Athie) being hired by a shadowy organization to restore video tapes that were damaged in a fire 25 years ago. As Dan restores the tapes in a remote location (“for his security” he’s assured), he witnesses the story of a woman named Melody (Dina Shihabi) who begins videotaping residents of an odd apartment building to create an oral history, only to discover something incredibly strange about the building and its inhabitants.

“I’m obsessed with mystery box shows, the kind that lead us down a rabbit hole into a strange, dark world,” showrunner, executive...

Reese Witherspoon, Kerry Washington & Alyssa Milano Among More Than 100 Stars Expressing Outrage Over Texas Abortion Law
Image
After the U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday night denied a request to issue emergency relief blocking Texas’ new law that bans abortion at six weeks and, say opponents, effectively eliminates access to abortions statewide, some big names in entertainment expressed their opinions about the legislation.

A group of prominent actors, musicians and other artists and companies swiftly responded to the news on social media. Reese Witherspoon, Alyssa Milano, Dua Lipa, Kerry Washington, St. Vincent, Eva Longoria Baston, Bad Robot and P!nk were among them. Many shared an image with the text, “I stand in solidarity with Texans & people everywhere seeking reproductive freedom.” The full list of the celebrities who support that sentiment is below; the vast majority of the signatories are women.

Washington also shared a link to a Planned Parenthood petition which, among other things, maintains that “health care — including safe, legal abortion — is a human right.

LAPD: Videos Surfaces Confirming Protesters’ Allegations Police Hit Them With Clubs During Fairfax Demonstration in L.A.
Image
On June 3, Deadline published an article that included first-hand accounts of the protest that occurred in the Fairfax district of Los Angeles on May 30. That article included firsthand accounts from protesters who said things turned violent when police officers began getting physically aggressive with the crowd.

Now, video footage originally taken by How to Get Away with Murder actor Matt McGorry on the day of the protest has been posted online showing LAPD officers using billy clubs to strike protestors who clearly have their hands up. The footage corroborates what the protestors said they witnessed and experienced.

In the video, we can see protestors standing while LAPD officers approach them. The scene takes a turn for the worse when one of the officers starts hitting the protestors with his baton and others follow. In addition, shots are fired but it is unclear whether the ammunition is rubber bullets, with which...

Emmy spotlight: Viola Davis’ stunning turn in ‘How to Get Away with Murder’s’ series finale is to die for
Image
Viola Davis has accrued four Emmy nominations in Best Drama Actress for her portrayal of Annalise Keating on ABC’s “How to Get Away With Murder” — of which her first translated into a win — and one in Best Drama Guest Actress (2018) for bringing Annalise to “Scandal.” On May 14, “Murder” ended its six-season run with “Stay” — or as I prefer to call it, the episode that will help Davis get away with her sixth Emmy bid.

Since the finale, Davis has moved up from 10th to seventh place in our combined odds, where, as of this writing, she trails Olivia Colman (“The Crown”), Laura Linney (“Ozark”), Jennifer Aniston (“The Morning Show”), Jodie Comer (“Killing Eve”), Elisabeth Moss (“The Handmaid’s Tale”) and Nicole Kidman (“Big Little Lies”). Among those forecasting a nomination are Gold Derby editors Chris Beachum, Marcus James Dixon and Zach Laws; Emmy experts Thelma Adams (Gold Derby), Tim Gray...
