India’s ‘most controversial tiger’ comes to theatres with ‘Tiger 24’

Mumbai’s AA Films has picked up India theatrical rights to Warren Pereira’s feature documentary ‘Tiger 24’. The film has been released in theatres and digital platforms in North America but now comes home to India to be released in a limited capacity starting first at the Jaipur International Film Festival on January 8, 2023, and then in Mumbai theatres soon after.

In Tiger 24, a wild tiger kills men who enter his territory, then being declared a man-eater and locked up in a zoo. This galvanizes massive social uproar and activists take their cause to the streets, online, on billboards and all the way to the High Court and Supreme Court.

Long-time Academy Museum of Motion Pictures executive Amy Homma was promoted to Chief Audience Officer Nov. 28, Director and President of the Academy Museum Jacqueline Stewart announced.

“Amy has proven herself to be a skillful, forward-thinking, and inspiring leader since she began at the museum in 2019, and I look forward to seeing her and her teams thrive in this new capacity,” Stewart said. “As a seasoned programmer, educator, and administrator who brings a deep knowledge of audience engagement and museology, Amy is the ideal person to steer our museum’s next chapter of external relations.”

Elevation Pictures Picks Up Warren Pereira’s Animal Rights Doc ‘Tiger 24’ Exec Produced By The Gotham Group

Exclusive: Toronto’s Elevation Pictures has picked up North American rights to Warren Pereira’s feature documentary Tiger 24, executive produced by The Gotham Group. The film has begun a limited theatrical release which includes a week’s run at the Laemmle’s Monica Film Center (Los Angeles), starting September 30. It will subsequently release on all transactional VOD platforms in North America on November 15.

Exclusive: Quiver Distribution has acquired North American rights to Nick Richey’s sophomore feature 1-800-hot-nite, slating it for release November 4.

The coming-of-age drama written and directed by Richey centers on Tommy (Dallas Dupree Young), whose world is turned upside down from the moment police break down his door and arrest his father. Faced with a parentless future, Tommy escapes child protective services’ custody with his best friends Steve (Mylen Bradford) and O’Neill (Gerrison Machado) into the L.A. streets—packed with men trying to rob them, cops chasing them, a python, a fist fight, a first kiss and phone sex. Throughout it all, Tommy keeps calling an 800 number, as he feels the woman on the line (Ali Richey) is the only adult he can confide in. By the end of the night, the boys’ brotherhood breaks down as they cross the threshold into adulthood.

The drama America’s Family had a strong showing at the 25th annual Dances with Films festival in Los Angeles, claiming the Grand Jury Award for Features as well as the Audience Award for Competition Features when the fest wrapped on Sunday.

The film from writer-director Anike L. Tourse watches as the Diaz family home is raided by Ice on Thanksgiving, with mother Marisol (Tourse) being put in detention, son Koke (Ricardo Cisneros) being deported and father Jorge (Mauricio Mendoza) fleeing for protective sanctuary. Marisol and Jorge’s two American-born children—young attorney Emiliano (Emmanuel López Alonso) and his disabled teen sister Valentina (Jailene Arias)—then scramble to reunite the family as their parents and brother fight to get home.
