The sequel to Edge of Tomorrow, titled Live Die Repeat and Repeat, has been a long time coming for fans of the sci-fi action flick that saw Tom Cruise caught in an infinite time-loop, fighting against an alien invasion. The project was initially announced in March 2019, but a series of delays have led to it being in constant limbo. This has been attributed to Tom Cruise's schedule, continued attention to the Mission: Impossible franchise and Emily Blunt also facing consistent scheduling conflicts. Director Doug Liman also spoke about not wanting to return to the project unless he was excited about the script.

On the corporate end, despite Edge of Tomorrow becoming a fan favorite, Warner Bros. considered the box office performance 'modest'; it earned $370.5 on a $178 million budget.

On December 2, 2024, Doug Liman announced plans to reunite with Tom Cruise for a supernatural thriller called Deeper. The announcement was made to 411Showbiz (via Deadline) during a screening of his documentary Gaucho, Gaucho, with Liman adding a few details about the upcoming "scary" movie. Of course, Tom Cruise has never made an outright horror movie, meaning the bankable movie star will break new ground for the first time in his career.

Liman and Cruise worked together on the 2014 sci-fi thriller Edge of Tomorrow, and have discussed working together again several times since. Fortunately, the superb actor-director has settled on a project seeing Tom Cruise exploring the deep sea. Although the supernatural thriller is in the early stages of development, here are all the crucial details known about Deeper thus far.

Edge of Tomorrow (2014) director Doug Liman will be collaborating with Tom Cruise once again on the new supernatural thriller called Deeper. Per Showbiz 411, Liman confirmed the plans at a screening of the Gregory Kershaw, Michael Dweck documentary Gaucho Gaucho.

Liman said he and the Mission: Impossible star, with whom he also worked together on 2017’s American Made, are planning to work on the movie soon. “I have never done one, and neither has Tom Cruise,” Liman said of working on the "scary" movie.

In addition to Edge of Tomorrow, which Liman produced, he also produced 2010’s Fair Game, which starred Naomi Watts and Sean Penn, and was an executive producer on the popular TV series, Suits. He also directed 1996’s Swingers, starring Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau, as well as 2024’s Road House, which starred Jake Gyllenhaal. No production date for Deeper has been announced.

Bullets is a female-led espionage and political thriller, focusing on young Finnish undercover cop Mari Saari (Kosonen). Soon it is clear that the main target behind the attack is a plan to destabilize the security of Europe. That sounds a lot like Finland's version of Olympus Has Fallen or White House Down. Mtg’s off-beat Nordic series set in the world of adult movies premiered at Miptv.

UK-based worldwide content distributor Drg has taken on sales of Nordic thriller Veni Vidi Vici, about a washed-up arthouse film director who gets caught up in the world of porn.

It is the latest Nordic series with international ambitions from Swedish production and distribution outfit Mtg Studios.

Both companies are owned by burgeoning digital entertainment company Modern Times Group (Mtg), but Mtg Studios does not automatically distribute its productions through Drg.

Its recent comedy series Swedish Dicks - co-starring Keanu Reeves and Peter Stormare - is being sold internationally by Lionsgate, for example.

Edge Of Tomorrow actor Dragomir Mrsic will star in Alex, a six-part Swedish thriller from Sf Studios that will premiere on Scandi broadcaster Mtg’s streaming service Viaplay.

The police TV drama, which airs in spring 2018, co-stars Rakel Wärmländer (Gåsmamman) and is based on an idea by Mrsic and Mikael Cross.

The main writers are Niklas Rockström (Before We Die) and Michael Hjorth (Sebastian Bergman).

The plot centres on a corrupt cop (Mrsic) who decides to leave his life of crime, but his darkest connections keep pulling him back.

Back in July, more than one full year after Edge of Tomorrow hit theaters in summer 2014, star Tom Cruise teased that a sequel may be in the works, having pitched an idea to director Doug Liman and screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie. We haven't heard anything official regarding this follow-up since then. The 2010 Swedish crime drama, adapted from a novel by Jens Lapidus, cast Kinnaman as Jw, an intelligent but misguided business student from the wrong side of the tracks who becomes a drug smuggler in order to afford the wealthy lifestyle of his upper-class peers. The diverse group of criminals he gets mixed up with includes Chilean Jorge (Matias Varela), Serbian Mrado (Dragomir Mrsic) and Lebanese Mahmoud (Fares Fares). I was already looking forward to Edge of Tomorrow, but now I can’t wait because the buzz has been ecstatic. Since it’s not based on well-known material (the source is the novel All You Need Is Kill), it was flying under the radar in a summer packed with sequels and name properties. Fresh off this morning’s behind-the-scenes featurette, Warner Bros. has released a fantastic new Edge of Tomorrow trailer for director Doug Liman’s upcoming sci-fi actioner. Tom Cruise plays a military officer who keeps being killed during a doomed combat mission to take down a hive-like alien race, only to wake up and relive the same day over and over again. In order to perhaps change his fate and save humanity, he works with a Special Forces warrior (Emily Blunt) to train himself to become a better soldier. The premise itself is fascinating enough, but this trailer shows more of the relationship between Cruise’s cowardly character and Blunt’s warrior as the two are in training, and it looks incredibly promising. I also really like the aesthetic that Liman has settled on for the film, and the set pieces look absolutely thrilling. Hit the jump to watch the new Edge of Tomorrow trailer.

Here’s a new trailer for the upcoming film Edge of Tomorrow starring Tom Cruise as a military officer who is killed within minutes of a doomed combat mission to take down a hive-like alien race. He wakes up and is forced to relive the day over and over again, allowing him to become a better soldier each time. It’s the Groundhog Day of sci-fi movies! The trailer shows a lot of action and finally some meat to the story which until now didn’t have me sold on this movie at all.

In the featurette, Blunt explains that her character once had the same ability, and while she eventually lost it, it allowed her to become a much better soldier. So maybe with all this becoming a better soldier message, the moral of the movie is going to be to keep on trying and you’ll become better at stuff.
