Michelle Williams Muses on the Real Love Story at the Center of ‘Dying for Sex’
Image
This isn’t Michelle Williams’ first Emmys rodeo. The golden laurel has taken residence in her home since 2019, when she won for outstanding lead actress in a limited series or movie for portraying Tony-winning actress and dancer Gwen Verdon in the FX biographical drama Fosse/Verdon. Now she’s back in the same race for Dying for Sex, also on FX, but that doesn’t make campaigning any easier.

“I get so nervous,” Williams, 44, confesses. “It’s a lot of adrenaline and I still have to keep taking my own advice, which is to try and stay in the moment and enjoy it because it’s all over so quickly.”

Williams is nominated for her portrayal of real-life podcaster Molly Kochan, who, upon a terminal cancer diagnosis in 2015, separated from her husband of 15 years and embarked on a journey of sexual exploration that included multiple casual liaisons with a variety of male suitors.

'Big Mouth' Season 8 was my new streaming favorite of the week
Image
The series presents a view of adolescence that is as accurate as it is rare.

There are some shows that I prefer to watch right away when a new episode debuts, and others that, for whatever reason, don’t prompt the same level of urgency. “Big Mouth” falls into the latter category; I’ve been a fan of the series for many years, but I don’t believe I’ve ever watched the show on its season premiere date. Season 8 of “Big Mouth” is no exception, and though I’m a few months late to the party, the show was nevertheless the best thing I watched this week.

Sign Up $7.99+ / month netflix.com

Let’s start with the obvious: “Big Mouth” is hysterical. The show centers on a group of teens who are working their way through adolescence, and the group of imaginary critters that accompany them through this journey.

‘The Holiday’ TV Adaptation in the Works at Apple TV+
Image
“The Holiday” is getting its own TV adaptation, TheWrap has learned.

A limited series take based on the classic Nancy Meyers movie is in development at Apple TV+, with “Sweetpea” writer Krissie Ducker and “Catastrophe” creator Rob Delaney set to adapt for television. Meyers is reportedly not involved with the new project.

The show would follow the same premise as the film, in which a single American and a single British woman exchange homes for the holidays and find love and shenanigans through the bold experiment. Casting is currently underway for the two lead female roles, with a greenlight from Apple expected upon securing the right well-known stars.

The 2006 film was a commercial success upon its release and is a beloved classic for the holiday season. It starred Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jude Law and Jack Black.

Delaney previously co-created and starred in “Catastrophe” alongside Sharon Horgan. He previously collaborated...

Much like other daily challenges, Framed offers a series of puzzles that must be completed in a set number of times – before it is game over. Unlike other puzzles, though, Framed has you choosing the correct name of the movie as your puzzle’s answer.

These puzzles can be a bit challenging at times, though. Fret not, as I will be listing the solutions for four of today’s Framed puzzles – along with a general breakdown of the whole puzzle.

Framed Classic Solution for Today Image Credits: Framed/FandomWire

Today’s Classic Framed puzzle has you guess the correct name of the movie from a total of 6 slides. These slides will be random stills from the movie in question, and you will have a total of 6 guesses before it’s over.

Today’s answer is ‘13 Going On 30,’ a 2004 romantic comedy starring Jennifer Garner, and has the following attributes:

First-Time Emmy Nominees Let Us in on Their Celebrations

What does it mean to you to be recognized by the Academy for your performance?

Jason Isaacs (The White Lotus) I never dream about it; I never think about it. I do it for the doing of it. I can’t pretend it doesn’t feel lovely, but I just don’t take it personally. I’m just a conduit for bringing these wonderful stories to life. … The one thing the 23 nominations [that The White Lotus received] have in common is three-dimensional, surprising characters. Watching the final show, I was blown away by everybody; the standards across the board are so extraordinary. That’s because of the writing ability and how it lifts everyone up and encourages them to go bigger and more truthful.

Cristin Milioti (The Penguin) You never know how these things are going to go, and I’m blown away by the amount of nominations we have and...

Image
“Zootopia 2” is heading to theaters on November 26, 2025, and fans are finally getting a look at what Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde have been up to since their first big adventure. Turns out, things between the bunny and the fox aren’t going as smoothly as you’d expect. In fact, they’re now in therapy. Yep, couples therapy… sort of.

The latest trailer shows the two police partners meeting with a therapist, played by Quinta Brunson. It’s not exactly romantic therapy, though. As Judy points out, they’ve only been official police partners for a week. Still, things are rocky enough that Chief Bogo (voiced again by Idris Elba) has forced them into partner counseling. If they don’t fix their issues, he’s ready to break up the team.

Judy and Nick are facing a new mystery involving a snake named Gary De’Snake. He’s voiced...

‘King of the Hill’ Announces Guest Stars, Recasting for Upcoming Hulu Revival
Image
Earlier this month, Hulu announced that the upcoming “King of the Hill” revival will see Ronny Chieng take over the recurring guest role of Kahn Souphanousinphone from the show’s original run. The decision meant that the Asian character, previously one of several parts voiced by Toby Huss, would be voiced by an Asian performer for the first time.

Now, IndieWire can exclusively reveal five new guest stars for the show’s long-awaited 14th season, several of which are similar recastings of old recurring characters with actors of color. In addition, Keith David and Anthony “Citric” Campos have joined the series as new characters.

David will play new character Brian Robertson, who rented the house of main character Hank (series co-creator Mike Judge) in between the events of the show’s original seasons and the revival, and integrates into Hank’s friend group. Campos will play Emilio, a chef at...

Is Being Fired by ‘SNL’ the Key to Awards Success?
Image
It seems as though Hollywood stars will do almost anything to win major acting awards that in no way resemble golden popcorn buckets.

In addition to going on media blitzes, attending gala events and straight-up suck-uping to voting bodies, one potentially unsung method of achieving awards recognition just might be getting shitcanned by Lorne Michaels.

Among the most recent crop of Emmy nominees is the great Jenny Slate, who was recognized for her work in Dying for Sex in the “Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie” category. Slate was famously let go after just one season on SNL (but not for dropping the F-bomb that one time as some folks mistakenly believe).

Obviously Slate is nominated because of her exceptional acting, but we can’t help but notice that she isn’t the first person who’s gotten recognition from the Television Academy after being fired by SNL.

Jenny Slate On Emotional Journey To First Emmy Nomination For ‘Dying For Sex’: “I Knew Enough About Myself To Let It All Go”
Image
On Emmy nomination morning, Dying for Sex star Jenny Slate was working up a sweat for totally normal reasons. In speaking with Deadline, the actor, nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie, shared that she had forgotten about the special day once she became immersed in her daily life with her daughter in tow. It wasn’t until after a yoga mat workout that she eventually checked her phone to find “many text messages rolling in.” Slate says, “Because I’m me, my first thought was that somebody in my family had some sort of accident, but in fact it was something really good.”

Based on the successful Wondery podcast of the same name, Dying For Sex follows the story of Molly Kochan (Michelle Williams), a woman diagnosed with stage IV metastatic breast cancer who leaves her husband of 15 years to explore her sexuality.

‘The Penguin’ marches into Emmys with 24 nominations: Here’s every category it landed — and where it slipped
Image
The Penguin is waddling its way all the way to the Emmys. The HBO limited series racked up 24 Emmy nominations on Tuesday, including Best Limited Series and Best Movie/Limited Actor for Colin Farrell.

Here are the categories The Batman spin-off landed in — and the ones it missed.

Best Limited Series: Nominated

Throughout the winter awards circuit, The Penguin faced tough competition from Netflix's breakout hit Baby Reindeer, which swept the top prizes at the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards after winning last year’s Emmy for Best Limited Series. However, the 2025 Emmys race has a fresh new batch of competitors. 2025 Emmy Nominations Are Here: See the Full List of Nominees

The 2025 Primetime Emmy nominations have been announced, and many fan favorites, returning series, and brand-new efforts have been recognized by the Television Academy. As IndieWire’s Marcus Jones predicted, the 2025 Emmys are one of the tightest races in recent years with a slew of returning winners side by side in competition with new buzzy series.

The Television Academy’s 24,000 members certainly have their work cut out for them as past Emmy winners like “Severance,” “The White Lotus,” “The Last of Us,” “Squid Game,” “The Handmaid’s Tale,” “Hacks,” “The Bear,” “Abbott Elementary,” “Only Murders in the Building,” and “What We Do in the Shadows” are all back in contention for more awards.

And that’s not even mentioning the slew of star-studded series that debuted this year: “The Pitt,” “Paradise,” “The Studio,” “Dying for Sex,” and IndieWire Honors-recognized “Adolescence” all have become critically acclaimed hits.

From Liza Colón-Zayas (“The Bear”) to...

Somehow, Chris Pratt’s $320M Sci-Fi Movie Looks Even More Disappointing After New Streaming Data
Image
After rising to fame with his lovable role as Andy Dwyer on NBC's Parks and Recreation, Chris Pratt has since transitioned into a major Hollywood star, especially within the science fiction genre. He became widely recognized for portraying Star-Lord in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy and Owen Grady in the Jurassic World trilogy, both blockbuster sci-fi franchises.

Despite his early success, Pratt's more recent ventures into sci-fi movies have been met with less enthusiasm. The shift began with Passengers, a film criticized for its problematic plot. Instead of elevating his status in sci-fi, it marked the start of a disappointing trend. Pratt's attempts to recapture his blockbuster success with similar films have generally failed to resonate with critics and audiences alike.

This pattern continued with streaming projects like Amazon's The Tomorrow War, which drew lukewarm responses for its clichéd plot and lack of originality, with critics...

Emmy Awards 2025 Predictions: Supporting Actress Limited Nominees, Front-Runners, and Who Will Win
Image
The Emmy Awards 2025 predictions for Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie are already heating up and this might be one of the most underrated bloodbaths of the season. With streamers packing their limited series with heavyweight ensembles, even the smallest supporting roles have become breakout moments.

From Adolescence to Sirens, and The Penguin to Dying for Sex, this year’s crop is stacked with scene-stealing powerhouses. The Supporting Actress race hasn’t always gotten the limelight it deserves, just ask the Ellen Burstyn controversy of ’06. But with rule changes now in place and the screen-time bar firmly set, the performances rising to the top in 2025 are the real deal.

Emmy Awards 2025 Predictions: What to Expect in the Supporting Actress Limited Category Race

With 105 submissions and only six slots up for grabs, this field is crowded, unpredictable, and more than a little ruthless. The thing that’s...

Emmy Awards 2025 Predictions: Best Lead Actress Limited/TV Movie Nominees, Front-Runners, and Who Will Win
Image
The 2025 Emmy race for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie is officially heating up and Michelle Williams might already be lapping the pack. With 54 submissions in total, only five women will make the cut, but insiders are already whispering her name as the “one to beat.”

This isn’t uncharted territory. Helen Mirren still reigns with the most wins (4) and nominations (10) in this category, while legends like Helen Hayes and Lee Remick hold the record for most nods without a win (5 each). A tight club, but a fierce one.

With limited series driving some of the best storytelling on TV right now, this year’s shortlist could be one of the strongest in recent memory. And while Emmy gold isn’t guaranteed, Williams’ performance might just make this race hers to lose.

‘Only Murders in the Building’ and ‘Dying for Sex’ Bosses Bond Over Not Playing It Safe | Visionaries
Image
For “Only Murders in the Building” showrunner John Hoffman and “Dying for Sex” boss Liz Meriwether, the fun of writing comedy lies in the unexpected, with both creators keenly attuned to the cathartic way comedy can interact with tragedy in their shows.

“I like the laugh that happens when you’re vulnerable and when you’re real and human and during the most sad situations,” Hoffman told Meriwether during a new installment of TheWrap’s long-form video series Visionaries. “Finding the connective laugh there will make me laugh in a way that is the only way I want to laugh.”

“It feels like a different kind of thing when you’re laughing in the middle of sadness, it feels like … therapy, it’s like catharsis, it’s a big laugh to me … an important laugh,” Meriwether said. “To be able to pull out a laugh out of real tragedy is great.

Michelle Williams On Why ‘Dying For Sex’ Was “A Perfect Thing”, Facing Mortality & Being “Free From Judgment”
Image
When Michelle Williams first listened to Molly Kochan’s podcast Dying for Sex, her reaction to the story of a woman choosing to begin a journey of sexual exploration after being diagnosed with terminal breast cancer took her by surprise. “This podcast was cracking me open in a way that is unusual for me,” she says. But as is the case with Williams’ selection process, it was the unsettlement that made the FX limited series adaptation so irresistible. “That’s really why you take a part, because you feel some deep connection, but also you are under the spell of its mystery and you go there to discover what it is that has moved you.”

Deadline: What was it about Molly Kochan’s journey that touched you on a personal level?

Michelle Williams: I really didn’t know at the time. I went back and I listened to it again,...
