Image
The ending of Game of Thrones shocked more than just the fans, it also took the cast by surprise. Emilia Clarke, who played Daenerys Targaryen, opened up to Entertainment Weekly about how she felt when she first read the final season’s script.

The fate of her character upset many viewers, and Clarke admitted that she had a hard time accepting it herself.

When Clarke learned that Daenerys would attack King’s Landing, killing thousands of civilians, and then be killed by Jon Snow, she couldn’t believe it. She had to read the script seven times before it sank in.

After that, she broke down and cried. She even went for a long five-hour walk to process what she was feeling. Clarke said, “What, what, what, What!? Because it comes out of f**king nowhere. I’m flabbergasted. Absolutely never saw that coming. […] I cried. And I went for a walk.

The Epic Production Behind Francis Ford Coppola's $14M Sci-Fi Flop Revealed In New Documentary Trailer
Image
The new trailer for a raw documentary about Francis Ford Coppola's self-financed passion project, Megalopolis, reveals the epic production behind the 2024 flop. The five-time Oscar winner spent $120 million to fund the movie that took him over 40 years to make. With an idea first conceived in 1977, the Godfather filmmaker began writing the script in 1983, but it wasn't until last year that the movie finally made it into the theaters.

Megalopolis' star-studded cast features Adam Driver, Nathalie Emmanuel, Aubrey Plaza, Giancarlo Esposito, Laurence Fishburne, and many others. However, despite the star power and Coppola's reputation, the movie faced a series of challenges in marketing and only grossed around $14 million against a massive budget.

Now, Utopia has released a new trailer for Mike Figgis' documentary, titled Megadoc, teasing a never-before-seen look at Coppola's journey in shaping the world of Megalopolis. From unfiltered interviews to a close-up view of Coppola's process, the documentary...

This Fantasy Epic Ended Too Soon—But Netflix Fans Still Can’t Get Over It 5 Years Later

Netflix Fans Still Mourn This Epic Fantasy Series 5 Years After Cancellation ( Photo Credit – Netflix )

Fans still bring up The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance like it never left even five years after Netflix pulled the plug. This fantasy series, despite being cancelled in 2020, has not slipped out of people’s top picks. For some, it is right up there with Dark and Stranger Things, mentioned in the same breath and remembered just as vividly.

What is Netflix’s The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance About?

The story, which is set on the planet Thra, zooms in on three young Gelflings who uncover the ugly truth about the Skeksis, the ruling class feeding off life itself. The three, Rian, Brea and Deet, try to rally scattered clans to fight back. It might sound a simple enough idea on paper but what the show pulled off was anything but ordinary.

First Teaser for 'Megadoc' on the Making of Coppola's 'Megaflopolis'
Image
"The magic and making of Francis Ford Coppola's epic Megalopolis." Utopia has revealed the first look teaser trailer for a new making of documentary film titled Megadoc, from director Mike Figgis. This mega documentary is trying to be the Hearts of Darkness (which was a look at Coppola's troubled Apocalypse Now set) for Megalopolis, which opened in theaters last year. The only problem is that Megalopolis not only flopped big time, but it's just not a good movie by any measure, and Coppola needs to accept this. I get that he spent tons of money on it, and he's trying to be bold and provocative again, but it's a complete mess and most people don't care about it (unlike with Apocalypse Now). This Megadoc features appearances by Francis Ford Coppola (but of course!), Adam Driver, Aubrey Plaza, Nathalie Emmanuel, Dustin Hoffman, Giancarlo Esposito, Chloe Fineman, Shia Labeouf, Laurence Fishburne,...

‘Megadoc’ Teaser: Francis Ford Coppola Directs ‘Megalopolis’ for ‘Fun’ in Mike Figgis’ Behind-the-Scenes Documentary
Image
After receiving Academy Awards and becoming an icon of Hollywood, Francis Ford Coppola just wants to have “fun.” The auteur’s version of playing around? Directing a self-funded $120 million epic.

The making of Coppola’s controversial “Megalopolis” is captured in documentary “Megadoc” by filmmaker Mike Figgis (Figgis previously helmed the Oscar-nominated “Leaving Las Vegas” and is known for directing episodes of “The Sopranos” and “The Affair.”) “Megadoc” is billed as an “unfiltered” look into Coppola’s “Megalopolis” and his creative process as a whole. The official synopsis for “Megadoc” reads: “A raw, fly-on-the-wall documentary about Francis Ford Coppola’s decades-long journey in creating his self-financed passion project, ‘Megalopolis.’ The bold and unrelenting epic returns in Mike Figgis’ portrait of Coppola’s creative process – weaving together archival material, unfiltered cast interviews, and a close-up view of how the legendary filmmaker drew from Roman history, political allegory, and his own singular vision...

"I Used My Last Hundred Million Dollars": Francis Ford Coppola Reveals Financial Challenges For His Next Movie After $14M Sci-Fi Disappointment
Image
Francis Ford Coppola has explained the impact Megalopolis is having on his next movie. Self-financed by the five-time Oscar winner, the 2024 sci-fi thriller is the director's passion project, retelling the Catilinarian conspiracy in an alternate New York and drawing parallels between the fall of the Roman Republic and the future of the United States.

The movie has a stellar cast, featuring Adam Driver as Cesar, a genius architect, Nathalie Emmanuel as Julia Cicero, Aubrey Plaza as Wow Platinum, and Giancarlo Esposito as Franklyn Cicero. But despite being fueled by star power, it struggled to find a distributor to cover the production costs and marketing. Marred by controversy, Megalopolis polarized critics and grossed only $14.3 million against a massive $120 million budget.

During an interview with Deadline, Coppola talked about how his last movie got him in a bit of trouble financially. The filmmaker revealed that he had already finished the script for...

Francis Ford Coppola on Why His 2024 Flop Isn't on DVD: 'I Didn't Make the Movie [So] People Can Own It'
Image
Legendary filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola explains exactly what he wants to accomplish with his Megalopolistour.

Speaking to Deadline, Coppola opened up about his decision to take Megalopolis on the road rather than make it available on DVD or any other form of home media. "I didn’t make the movie available anywhere where people can own it or have a DVD or all that because I wanted to keep the hope of a theater experience going," Coppola said. "So because of that, there are a lot of people who said to me, well, 'How come you can’t get it on all the normal ways?"

"I said, well, because I'm going to go and bring it in a public way at first to prime the pump," Coppola continued. "Where I'll talk about the movie at the end, or rather illustrate some of where the movie could take you if you...

‘Megadoc’ First Look: Mike Figgis Captures an ‘Unfiltered’ Understanding of Francis Ford Coppola’s Making of ‘Megalopolis’
Image
Francis Ford Coppola’s controversial “Megalopolis” production is now being given the documentary treatment. Mike Figgis directs “Megadoc” about the making of Coppola’s self-funded $120 million epic. While the buzzy cast included a slew of “canceled” actors as well as beloved stars, the feature was plagued with allegations of wild on-set antics and unwanted advances against extras (Coppola has denied the claims.) Figgis, meanwhile, was on set to capture it all.

“Megadoc” is billed as an “unfiltered” look into Coppola’s “Megalopolis” and the auteur’s creative process as a whole. The official synopsis for “Megadoc” reads: “A raw, fly-on-the-wall documentary about Francis Ford Coppola’s decades-long journey in creating his self-financed passion project, ‘Megalopolis.’ The bold and unrelenting epic returns in Mike Figgis’ portrait of Coppola’s creative process – weaving together archival material, unfiltered cast interviews, and a close-up view of how the legendary filmmaker drew from Roman history,...

Coppola Isn’t Done: ‘Megalopolis’ Is Getting Recut, and the Director Promises It’s Going to Be Even Weirder
Image
A year ago, Francis Ford Coppola, the legendary director behind classics like “The Godfather” and “Apocalypse Now,” released his sci-fi epic “Megalopolis.”

The film, which tells the story of a visionary architect fighting a corrupt politician to rebuild a city after a disaster, didn’t get the warm welcome Coppola hoped for. Despite spending $120 million of his own money, the movie struggled to find an audience.

Coppola premiered “Megalopolis” at Cannes, hoping for a big success, but the reaction was mostly confusion. Lionsgate later picked up the film and released it in theaters in May 2025, where it ran for 138 minutes.

Unfortunately, it only made about $7 million. After that, Lionsgate pulled the film from theaters, gave the rights back to Coppola, and no streaming or Blu-ray releases followed. The movie can’t even be rented on Amazon anymore, with the listing showing “rights expired.”

But Coppola isn’t giving up. At 85 years old,...

Francis Ford Coppola Teases a ‘Megalopolis’ Recut to Make the Film ‘More Weird’: I ‘Can Do Anything I Want’
Image
Francis Ford Coppola is already planning to re-release “Megalopolis.” The auteur has famously recut a slew of his most iconic features, including “Apocalypse Now.” Soon, “Megalopolis” will also be revisited in the edit room, with Coppola teasing that the proudly Razzie award-winning epic will be “more weird” with the recut.

“It was [originally] more weird,” Coppola said during the New Jersey leg of his tour for the 2024 film (via the World of Reel). “I own the picture, I can do anything I want with it.” The recut will include added deleted dream sequences that will make the film “weirder.”

Coppola said that he cut certain sequences from the final film “because already people were saying this film was so weird.”

“Megalopolis” stars Adam Driver as architect Cesar Catilina, who strives to create a utopian city while battling Mayor Franklyn Cicero (Giancarlo Esposito). Nathalie Emmanuel, Jon Voight, Laurence Fishburne, and Aubrey Plaza...

Jason Statham and Alan Ritchson Stole the Show in This $714 Million Action Blockbuster That’s Climbing the Streaming Charts
Image
Starz subscribers cannot get enough of the latest installment in the Fast & Furious franchise. Fast X, the tenth mainline entry in the fan-favorite action series, is currently charting on multiple Top 10 streaming lists around the world.

Per Collider, Fast X is currently available to stream on Starz in the United States and for purchase via iTunes in most international territories. During its theatrical run, the action sequel failed to gross over $1 billion worldwide like its predecessors, Furious 7 and The Fate of the Furious, earning $714 million at the box office, an amazing amount that any studio wouldn't have scoffed at. Unfortunately, Fast X had a reported production budget of $378 million, meaning that Universal barely made any profit on the movie. However, two years later, audiences are either discovering or rewatching Fast X on streaming, leading it to become one of the few movies that is charting globally right now,...

Utopia Acquires ‘Megadoc’ On Making Of Francis Ford Coppola’s ‘Megalopolis’
Image
Utopia has acquired North American rights to Megadoc, a new documentary on the making of Francis Ford Coppola’s epic Megalopolis, which premiered a year ago at Cannes before going on to a nationwide theatrical release via Lionsgate.

The doc, from Oscar-nominated filmmaker Mike Figgis (Leaving Las Vegas), will be released in theaters this fall.

The making-of project emerged from a chance encounter, sparked by an email between two old friends, with Coppola inviting Figgis to the Megalopolis set in the lead-up to the first day of principal photography and granting him permission to document whatever he wished. Armed with a small camera and crew throughout the entire shoot, Figgis’ unrestricted access to the production gave way to Megadoc, a unique look into the creative process of one of the most revered directors of all time, and behind the curtain of the most ambitious film of his career.

Francis Ford Coppola Is Keeping His ‘Megalopolis’ Doc All in the Family
Image
Auteur Francis Ford Coppola has landed his second making-of documentary and, despite its pun-ny title, “Megadoc” is billed as a serious look into the controversial and convoluted production of Coppola’s recent feature “Megalopolis.”

The $120 million self-funded (and Coppola-described Roman epic) premiered at Cannes 2024. The long-gestating film went on to “win” two Razzie awards, inspire a slew of GIFs with Adam Driver demanding to “go back to the club,” launch a questionable ad campaign that was rumored to be created by artificial intelligence, and arguably help usher in the era of Jon Voight being a Trump-appointed ambassador to Hollywood.

Nathalie Emmanuel, Giancarlo Esposito, Aubrey Plaza, Shia Labeouf, Laurence Fishburne, Chloe Fineman, Kathryn Hunter, Dustin Hoffman, D.B. Sweeney, Jason Schwartzman, Baily Ives, Grace Vanderwaal, and James Remar also star.

While there were claims of inappropriate behavior on set by Coppola (who has refuted all of the allegations) and a loose style of filming,...

Image
Francis Ford Coppola explained why Megalopolisstill isn't on any streaming platforms or available on digital nearly eight months after its initial release. The story of Coppola's most recent movie follows the leading figures in the fictional city of New Rome in an alternate version of the United States. The film depicts a utopian future, and features an all-star cast, which includes Adam Driver, Aubrey Plaza, Nathalie Emmanuel, Giancarlo Esposito, and Shia Labeouf. However, ever since its release, reviews for Megalopolishave been mixed, and some have called it one of Coppola's worst movies.

Even though Megalopolis was a much-talked-about film leading up to its release, its underwhelming reviews led to it bombing at the box office. Despite this, the film is still not available to stream anywhere and cannot be purchased on digital. In a recent interview with GQ, Coppola explained why he has not released Megalopolis on streaming and on digital yet.

Megalopolis is a topic we’ve covered extensively here, and we’ve written a lot about the movie’s production process, the horrible reviews, as well as how it flopped completely at the box office, meaning that Coppola won’t be able to get his personal investment back.

But, Coppola is adamant in defending his movie, and while confirming that it is now selling out screenings, he also discussed the movie’s home release, which still hasn’t happened, despite there seemingly being no valid reason for that.

'I Don't Want Anyone to Own It': Francis Ford Coppola on Why His 2024 Flop Still Hasn't Hit Streaming or Blu-ray
Image
Acclaimed filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola says he doesn't "want anyone to own" Megalopoliswhile it's still in theaters.

Per Deadline, Coppola noted that the reason Megalopolis has yet to be released via major streaming platforms or physical media is "because the film is still being shown in theaters. I don't want anyone to own it." Coppola continued, "After the election, people are selling out screenings of Megalopolis—the way it was intended to be seen."

"Being that it was so prophetic or prescient to say America is like Rome—it’s going to maybe lose its republic—now people are rushing to see it in theaters," Coppola explained. "We sold out three screenings in Boston recently, in Detroit, and people are really lining up. It’s just like what happened with Apocalypse Now. Apocalypse Now was a big flop, it got terrible reviews, everyone said it was the worst movie ever made.

Why you can’t watch Francis Ford Coppola’s ‘Megalopolis’ at home
Image
Audiences hoping to plow through the riches of Francis Ford Coppola’s Emersonian mind from the comfort of their own homes are out of luck.

According to sources close to the Oscar-winning legend, Coppola’s ill-fated box office calamity Megalopolis will never become available to stream, rent, or purchase on physical media. “He wants it to play in theaters, the way it was intended,” one unnamed source told The Hollywood Reporter.

In some ways ,it could be argued that Megalopolis is the last movie of its kind. Coppola used $120 million of his own fortune to produce the passion project independently and premiered the work at the Cannes Film Festival last year to mixed responses. Roughly one month after the Cannes premiere, Lionsgate purchased the distribution rights with a promise to release Megalopolis in theaters and on premium large format (Plf) screens later in the fall while Coppola retained the project’s ownership.

Four Fanboy Flicks Bomb Out In Deadline’s 2024 Most Valuable Blockbuster Tournament
Image
As Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster tournament comes to a close, with the two most profitable movies of 2024 unveiled Thursday, we look at the movies that didn’t work. Streaming continues to be a wildcard: While traditional motion picture studios such as Disney, Warner Bros, Sony, Paramount and Universal rely on lucrative pay two and pay three streamer deals to catapult their slates into the black, those streamers who’ve embraced theatrical (specifically Amazon MGM Studios and Apple Original Films) have a clandestine metric as to how they evaluate a movie’s post-cinema success. By traditional studio P&l standards, some of those releases would be considered flops. Given that, Apple and Amazon are excluded from this year’s survey.

Francis Ford Coppola Announces ‘Megalopolis’ Graphic Novel
Image
Francis Ford Coppola isn’t done with “Megalopolis.” After Quentin Tarantino wrote a novel version of his “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” feature (which is now getting a sequel from David Fincher), Coppola has announced that he is turning his 2024 film “Megalopolis” into a graphic novel.

The book will be written by Chris Ryall, who has adapted Stephen King, Clive Barker, and Harlan Ellison’s works as well. Coppola explains that while it’s inspired by the film, it will be much more than that.

“I was pleased to put the idea of a graphic novel in the competent hands of Chris Ryall with the idea that, although it was inspired by my film ‘Megalopolis,’ it didn’t necessarily have to be limited by it,” Coppola said in a statement to THR. “I hoped the graphic novel would take its own flight, with its own artists and writer so...

Francis Ford Coppola Unveils ‘Megalopolis’ Graphic Novel (Exclusive)
Image
Megalopolis was one of the big swings of 2024, with Oscar-winning filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola putting decades of his life into its development and betting tens of millions of his own money on a project that he hoped would become an enduring part of his legacy.

It told the story of an obsessive architect Cesar Catilina (Adam Driver), who wanted to create a utopian city, but finds himself at odds with Mayor Franklyn Cicero (Giancarlo Esposito). The film was polarizing, to say the least. It failed to light up the box office and earned mixed reviews, but it certainly sparked conversation, becoming one of the most talked about movies in Hollywood last year.

Now, the Godfather filmmaker’s work will get a re-interpretation with Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis: An Original Graphic Novel.

Writer Chris Ryall penned the book, after building a career adapting the works of authors such as Stephen King,...

MCU Casting Rumors Heat Up After 2 Surprise Stars Appear at Thunderbolts Premiere
Image
Two major movie stars made a surprise appearance at the premiere of Thunderbolts*, leading many to speculate that they both could be debuting in the MCU at any time. The world premiere of Thunderbolts* recently took place, and attendants were treated to seeing multiple stars from the film on the red carpet, such as Florence Pugh, David Harbour, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus. However, some surprise guests who were not cast in the film (or the MCU) also made appearances.

Hollywood stars Nathalie Emmanuel (Game of Thrones) and Jodie Turner-Smith (Queen & Slim) surprisingly attended Thunderbolts* world premiere in London, England on Tuesday, April 22, despite not being in the film or the MCU. This led to many fans speculating on whether Emmanuel and Turner-Smith will be cast in the MCU at some point in the near future, as they were the only non-mcu cast members at the premiere. The two actresses joined other...

Have Jodie Turner-Smith & Nathalie Emmanuel Joined The MCU? Speculation Mounts After Thunderbolts* Premiere
Image
Marvel Studios held the world premiere of Thunderbolts* in London last night, and the stars of the latest MCU movie were in attendance - along with a few familiar faces who aren't in the movie.

Pedro Pascal (The Fantastic Four: First Steps) and Simu Liu (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) walked the red carpet, along with Jodie Turner-Smith and Nathalie Emmanuel.

This wouldn't be the first time someone attended the premiere of a movie they didn't appear in, of course, but we have seen actors show up to Marvel Studios screenings in the past who would later be confirmed as cast members in upcoming projects. The fact that Turner-Smith and Emmanuel were the only non-mcu actors on the Thunderbolts* red carpet has led to speculation that they may have joined (or are in talks to join) the franchise in undisclosed roles.

It might be a stretch, but...

Ranking All 10 Fast and Furious Movies, Worst to Best
Image
If there’s one thing the Fast and Furious franchise has mastered, it’s reinvention. What started in 2001 as a movie about street racing and DVD player heists somehow morphed into a billion-dollar saga where cars fly, submarines chase Lamborghinis, and Vin Diesel defeats helicopters with a pair of Dodge Chargers. Over 10 movies (and counting), we’ve seen everything from rooftop chases in Rio to family barbecues that feel just as intense as the action scenes.

And through it all, Dom Toretto has reminded us, repeatedly, in case we forgot, that nothing is more important than family.

Of course, not every Fast & Furious movie is a nitrous-fueled masterpiece. Some entries turned the franchise into cinematic gold, while others, well, let’s just say they were running on fumes. The early movies were all about the underground racing scene, but as the franchise grew, so did its ambitions. By Fast Five,...

‘The Killer’ Blu-ray Review
Image
Stars: Nathalie Emmanuel, Omar Sy, Sam Worthington, Diana Silvers, Saïd Taghmaoui, Eric Cantona, Tchéky Karyo | Written by Brian Helgeland, Josh Campbell Matt Stuecken | Directed by John Woo

By all accounts, revisiting a classic is a gamble, especially when that classic is 1989’s The Killer, the film that not only defined John Woo’s career but helped reshape the language of action cinema. When I heard that Woo himself was helming a remake, more than three decades later, my curiosity was mixed with apprehension. Would this be a faded echo of a once-thunderous roar, or could the master still orchestrate balletic violence with operatic soul?

To my surprise and immense relief, Woo’s 2025 reimagining of The Killer is not just a respectful tribute to his original; it is a bold, resonant remix, made with the fire of an auteur who hasn’t lost his edge.

This time, the assassin with a...

Harlan Coben’s Next Netflix Crime Series With Sam Worthington Finally Gets an Update
Image
Harlan Coben’s next adaptation with an Avatar star just got a major filming update. It was announced earlier this month that Sam Worthington would lead Harlan Coben’s next project, but details about the rest of the cast are being kept under wraps. Worthington is best known for playing Jake Sully in James Cameron’s Avatar franchise, a role which he will reprise later this year in Avatar: Fire and Ash. Worthington is also known for starring as Marcus Wright in Terminator Salvation and for playing Perseus in Clash of the Titans. During a recent interview with Variety to talk about his projects past and present, Coben provided a thrilling update on the series, revealing that it plans to begin filming much sooner than we thought:

“Production is also about to start in two to three weeks on the feature 'I Will Find You' with Sam Worthington for Netflix U.

“I would’ve loved some more scenes”: Emilia Clarke’s Only Game of Thrones Regret Is Valid, and ‘The Winds of Winter’ Should Solve That
Image
George R.R. Martin’s The Winds of Winter is nowhere near finished, but there is one thing that fans can look forward to based on Emilia Clarke’s comment on the final season of Game of Thrones. It is universal knowledge that Season 8 ended on a depressing note, but we are hoping that the upcoming sixth novel will do some major damage repairs.

The actress, who portrayed Daenerys Targaryen in the show, remained unfazed by her character’s villain transformation; however, she wished to have shared more quiet moments with her best friend as well as confrontations with her enemy.

Game Of Thrones: Every Main Character Ending, Ranked
Image
Not everyone agrees that the final season of "Game of Thrones" is an absolute stinker — and by that, I mean some of my esteemed colleagues here at /Film think it's not so bad — but there's no denying that some of the show's characters fared better than others. Throughout eight seasons and ten years of the massively popular HBO fantasy series based on George R.R. Martin's novel series "A Song of Ice and Fire," it's also safe to say that said characters endure a lot of trauma, from losing loved ones to facing violent assaults ... so does anyone really get a happy ending in Westeros?

Yes and no. Obviously, there's not enough time to rank every single character's ending here. Some people, like Missandei (Nathalie Emmanuel) and Ser Jorah Mormont (Iain Glen), don't make it to the series finale "The Iron Throne," so their endings aren't chronicled here (though it's...

'Madame Web' Wins the Razzie for Worst Picture, Beating 'Joker: Folie à Deux' and 'Borderlands'
Image
With the 97th Oscars just days away, celebrating the best movies and performances of 2024, the 45th Razzies is highlighting the worst of the worst. Among the films nominated for Worst Picture, Madame Web took home the top prize.

Among the other films nominated for the Golden Raspberry for Worst Picture were the highly anticipated sequel (and highly disappointing), Joker: Folie à Deux; Francis Ford Coppola's bizarre Megalopolis; big-budget (and bigger bomb) video game adaptation, Borderlands; and the Reagan biopic with Dennis Quaid. But it was Madame Web that came out as the winner. Or would that be the loser?

RelatedIs Madame Web So Bad It's Good, or Just Bad?

Madame Web has become a hit on Netflix, so is the film so bad it's a good camp classic, or is it just another bad movie?
