AGC acquires international sales on upcoming TIFF world premiere ‘Ick’

AGC International has acquired international sales on upcoming Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) Midnight Madness world premiere Ick.

Joseph Kahn’s sci-fi creature feature stars Mena Suvari and Brandon Routh in the tale of a washed-up jock turned high school science teacher who teams up with a class of rebellious teens to overcome an invasive infectious substance.

The cast includes Malina Weissman, Harrison Cone, Taia Sophia, Zeke Donovan Jones, and Debra Wilson with Jeff Fahey. Ick premieres on September 7.

Kahn directed from an original screenplay he co-wrote with Samuel Laskey and Dan Koontz. He won the 2017 TIFF People’s Choice Award: Midnight Madness for Bodied.

Place of Bones trailer: Heather Graham stars in action-packed horror Western

I always enjoy seeing the horror and Western genres get mixed together, so as soon as I saw that the upcoming film Place of Bones is being described as “action-packed horror Western,” I was sold on checking it out. I didn’t even have to watch a trailer to know I want to see how the movie has turned out – but distributor The Avenue has unveiled a trailer for Place of Bones, and you can check it out in the embed above. The film is set to receive a theatrical and digital release on August 23rd.

Audrey Cummings, who credits include the films Tormented, Darken, and She Never Died, as well as episodes of the TV shows The Haunted Museum, Ginny & Georgia, and Astrid and Lilly Save the World, directed Place of Bones from a screenplay by Richard Taylor, whose credits stretch back to the 1978 car chase flick Stingray...

International and indie film distributor Well Go USA Entertainment has acquired North American rights to western heist film “The Last Stop in Yuma County.”

The debut feature from writer-director Francis Galluppi bowed at Austin’s Fantastic Fest before heading to Sitges. XYZ Films and UTA are co-representing North American sales. The acquisition was negotiated by Brennan Lane on behalf of Well Go USA and by John McGrath (UTA) and Pip Ngo (XYZ) on behalf of the filmmakers.

The film follows a traveling knife salesman in 1980s Arizona. Stranded and forced to wait at a rural rest stop, he suddenly finds himself in the middle of a violent hostage situation upon the arrival of two bank robbers who are on the run after a recent heist.

Screen Media Acquires Mystery Comedy ‘Helen’s Dead’, Sets Day-And-Date Release

Exclusive: Screen Media has announced its acquisition of all North American rights to Helen’s Dead, a mystery comedy starring Dylan Gelula (Dream Scenario), Emile Hirsch (Into the Wild), Tyrese Gibson (Fast X), Annabelle Dexter-Jones (Succession), and Oliver Cooper (Red Oaks). Set to hit theaters in at least the top 10 markets, the film will open day-and-date on November 3.

The flick directed by K. Asher Levin follows the story of Addie (Gelula), who, after a terrible breakup with her boyfriend, goes to confront her best friend about cheating allegations and accidentally steps into a murder scene.

Amy Brown Carver penned the script based on her story written with Levin. The film is produced by Levin, Daniel Cummings, Robert Dean, Roy Scott MacFarland, and Todd Lundbohm.

Janus: Slash teams with Paranormal Activity producer for horror film

On July 11th, a horror film called The Breach – which was executive produced by legendary musician Slash, who also co-produced the score – will be getting a VOD and digital release in the United States. And Variety reports that Slash has already lined up his next horror project: he’s teaming with Steven Schneider of Room 101, Inc. and Spooky Pictures – a producer whose genre credits include Paranormal Activity, Blair Witch, and Old – for a film called Janus.

Jason Zada (The Forest) will be directing Janus from a screenplay he wrote with Nate Atkins. The story centers on three band members seeking refuge in an old farmhouse where they encounter a woman harboring an unspeakable secret.

Alex Neustaedter (American Rust), Natalie Alyn Lind (Big Sky), Jack Kilmer (Lords of Chaos), Grace Van Dien (Stranger Things), and M.C. Gainey (Con Air) have already been cast in the film.

‘Paranormal Activity’ Producer Steven Schneider Sets Horror Projects With Slash, Malkier Studios (Exclusive)

Prolific genre producer Steven Schneider of Room 101, Inc. and Spooky Pictures, is teaming with Malkier Studios on a slate of horror films.

Schneider’s credits include “Paranormal Activity,” “Blair Witch,” and M. Night Shyamalan’s “Old.”

Producing alongside Schneider will be D.C. Cassidy, Michael Fisk and Julia Wang Zhu under the newly formed Malkier Studios production company that will focus on creating IP driven horror, animation and thriller content.
