TV Line reported Friday that producers had exhausted all avenues, and the show will not be returning in any capacity.

It's a tough blow for fans of the drama series, but at least we know that there was a push to get more episodes from the cast and creatives.

Walker, which premiered on The CW in August 2021, is a reboot of the Chuck Norris series Walker, Texas Ranger and stars former Supernatural star Jared Padalecki as Cordell Walker. In October 2022, the network premiered Walker: Independence, a prequel series following Walker's ancestors two centuries earlier.

Per Deadline, Justin Johnson Cortez - who plays Abby Walker's (Katherine McNamara) Indigenous ally Calian on the prequel to the Walker, Texas Ranger reboot - will appear on an upcoming episode of Walker season 3. This news comes just a few weeks after Padalecki made a cameo appearance on Independence. Cortez will play Sonny Alcala, a homicide detective who has worked with Cordell previously and brings him in on a mysterious new case.

The CW has set its midseason lineup and announced premiere dates for returning shows including both Walker series, The Winchesters, and Kung Fu. The network’s also confirmed return dates for Criss Angel’s Magic With The Stars, World’s Funniest Animals, All American, All American: Homecoming, Penn & Teller: Fool Us, and Whose Line Is It Anyway?.

In addition, The CW will air the 28th Annual Critics Choice Awards live on Sunday, January 15, 2023. Chelsea Handler will handle hosting duties as the Critics Choice Association honors the best in films and television of 2022.

Katherine McNamara is no stranger to worlds far removed from our reality, having starred in sci-fi fantasy series “Arrow” from The CW and Freeform’s “Shadowhunters.” Her role in “Walker: Independence,” the 1870s-set prequel series to The CW’s “Walker” starring Jared Padalecki, is akin to her previous portrayals — in heart and strength — even if she’s trading leather jackets for corset dresses.

“Abby is very much a woman who has agency in a time when a lot of women didn’t,” McNamara told TheWrap in an interview, “and a woman who’s thrust into a situation she wasn’t prepared for and into a world that she knows nothing about and has to find her way and make a family and build something out of a tragedy.”

The apple truly doesn’t fall far from the Hoyt Rawlins tree on Walker Independence.

In the prequel spinoff (premiering this Thursday at 9/8c on The CW), Matt Barr stars as a charismatic outlaw who crosses paths with Katherine McNamara’s Abby Walker in the 1800s Western frontier town of Independence, Texas. The role marks an unexpected return to the Walker universe for Barr, who previously played Hoyt’s descendent — also named Hoyt Rawlins — on the mothership series until he met a tragic end in Season 1.

The CW’s Walker prequel, Walker Independence, is set to premiere on October 6, 2022 at 9pm Et/Pt. The new series takes place in the 1800s but shares a character – and actor – with the original show. Matt Barr stars in Walker Independence as Hoyt Rawlins, an ancestor of the Hoyt Rawlins he plays in Walker.

Speaking to TVLine, Barr described his Walker Independence character as made of the same DNA and heart as Walker‘s Hoyt. “But [Walker‘s] Hoyt was more of a talker, and this guy is a man of action. He’s a little more dangerous,” said Barr.

Katherine McNamara stars as Abby Walker, Justin Johnson Cortez plays Calian, and Katie Findlay is Kate Carver. Lawrence Kao is Kai, Philemon Chambers stars as Augustus, and Greg Hovanessian is Sheriff Tom Davidson.

Season one episode one was written by Seamus Kevin Fahey and directed by Larry Teng.

Starring Matt Barr and Katherine McNamara, Walker Independence, written by Seamus Fahey based on a story by him and Anna Fricke, and directed by Larry Teng, is set in the late 1800s. It follows an affluent Bostonian named Abby Walker (McNamara), whose husband is murdered in front of her while on their trek out West. Consumed by a need for vengeance, Abby crosses paths with Hoyt Rawlins (Barr), described as a “lovable rogue in search of a purpose” in the logline.
