Glasgow Film Festival Industry Head Reflects On Latest Edition: “It’s The Busiest Year We’ve Ever Had”

While the Glasgow Film Festival wrapped a few weeks ago with more than 33,000 people in attendance at the 12-day event, the festival’s industry program saw a big boost in attendance this year, with numbers up 15% year-on-year.

It’s welcome news for Samantha Andie Bennett, who heads up the Gff Industry Focus section and its talent development labs as she and her team work to position the strand into a significant event on the festival calendar that can attract delegates from around the UK and beyond while, crucially, creating a pipeline to support new local talent.

Edinburgh Film Festival Unveils Full Lineup Led by Saoirse Ronan’s ‘The Outrun’

The 77th Edinburgh International Film Festival (Eiff) has launched its entire program for the Aug. 15-21 event, where it will screen 37 new feature films and 18 world premieres.

Ten world premieres will compete for the new Sean Connery Prize for Feature Filmmaking Excellence as the fest showcases talent from filmmakers in the U.K., U.S., Canada, Mexico, Norway, China, Kazakhstan, Belgium, Iran and beyond. Screenings will take place in the heart of Scotland’s picturesque capital at some of the city’s most iconic venues including Cameo Cinema, Summerhall, and 50 George Square.

Nora Fingscheidt’s The Outrun, starring Saoirse Ronan, was previously confirmed as the Fest’s opening night film, with the world premiere of Carla J. Easton and Blair Young’s documentary Since Yesterday: The Untold Story of Scotland’s Girl Bands set to close. Its Midnight Madness strand will close with the body horror The Substance, starring Demi Moore.

The Edinburgh International Film Festival has unveiled the Scottish selection for its 70th edition (June 15-26).

As previously announced, the festival will open with the world premiere of Tommy’s Honour, starring Peter Mullan and Jack Lowden, and will close with the world premiere of Whisky Galore!, starring Gregor Fisher, James Cosmo and Eddie Izzard.

Veteran actor Brian Cox has two features in the selection, János Edelényi’s comedy The Carer [pictured] and Jon Cassar’s western Forsaken, in which he stars alongside both Kiefer and Donald Sutherland.

Scottish actor Rose Leslie will star alongside Ray Liotta and Gina Rodriguez in family drama Sticky Notes, from director Amanda Sharp.

Angus Macfadyen, known for playing Robert the Bruce in Braveheart, makes his directorial debut with Macbeth Unhinged, a black-and-white...
