Netflix's most-watched canceled show of 2024 deserved a second chance
Image
Netflix subscribers often question the how and why of the steamer's decisions to cancel or renew a series. It isn't as easy as it's a well-liked show. The streamer carefully weighs the performance of a new release against how much it costs to make it. One new series in 2024 was well received but sadly canceled, and we think it deserves a second chance. And that's Kaos starring Jeff Goldblum.

In October of that year just a couple of months later, Netflix announced that the series was canceled, much to the dismay of viewers who thoroughly enjoyed it.

If you do a quick Google search for Kaos, you will find many positive posts regarding the creative approach, the melding of dark comedy and mythology,...

Fans Lash Out After Netflix Cancels A-List Series After One Season
Image
Netflix is often accused of canceling popular shows before their time. One of the biggest complaints is that the streaming service often ends a show after three seasons, even if there is more story to tell. However, one recent show that premiered in 2024 has already been canceled after just one season. This is even despite it having a major star in the lead role.

Here is what show was canceled and what you need to know.

Netflix Cancels Fan-Favorite Series

While streaming services have been great in many aspects, especially in terms of creative freedom, sometimes, these services can be a little too eager to cancel shows before they truly have the chance to be fleshed out. This is exactly what happened recently with a show that people got hooked on.

Kao Creator Reacts To Netflix Show's Cancellation After 1 Season: "Please Keep Talking"
Image
Kaos series creator Charlie Covell thanks fans for their support amid its cancellation and hopes that the series can still resonate with viewers. The black comedy is a retelling of Greek mythology in a more contemporary setting, as a prophecy threatens to bring down the seemingly all-powerful gods who are desperate to cling to power. Kaos starred Aurora Perrineau as Eurydice, Killian Scott as Orpheus, Misia Butler as Caeneus, and Leila Farzad as Ariadne, while Jeff Goldblum, Janet McTeer, and Nabhaan Rizwan played the gods Zeus, Hera, and Dionysus.

While Kaos may have been cut short with Netflix's cancellation, Covell released their own statement on the show's fate through production company Sister's Instagram account.

While Covell did emphasize how unfortunate it was that the show was canceled, they urged viewers to focus on the good parts of its existence.

Fall of the Gods: How Kaos’ Cancelation Makes the Case for the Intentional Limited Series

It’s a running gag that powerhouse streamer Netflix loves to cancel its original series.

Very few TV Fanatics have escaped Netflix’s penchant for ax-swinging when it comes to some of our favorite series.

And now, the gods were not smiling down on the modern-day Greek mythology series, Kaos.

(Justin Downing/Netflix) Kaos Offered a Truly Unique, Refreshing Take on the Genre Series

There is nothing quite like Kaos currently on the air, and unfortunately, now there isn’t anything at all.

Kaos was a genuinely fun series, in many ways taking a similar approach as The Boys when tackling a specific genre that is either overfraught or not approached in unique ways.

10 TV Westerns That Should Have Been Longer
Image
Western-based series have been the cornerstone of TV since its inception, capturing the spirit of the American frontier. These shows present compelling stories of justice, survival, and moral dilemmas set against wild and lawless landscapes. However, many outstanding Western series have either been prematurely ended or been severely limited in their scope. Some of the best made for TV Westerns presented engaging plots and intriguing characters, and warranted longer durations to develop their themes and narratives fully. Whether they were canceled early or constrained by their format, each show left viewers wanting more.

Several of these shows constructed expansive worlds and introduced exciting and unique characters with the potential for growth over multiple seasons. The best Western TV shows thrive on gradual, paced storytelling, enabling exploration of frontier life, moral ambiguity, and deep character development. Kaos | Netflix cancels Jeff Goldblum show after one series
Jeff Goldblum and Janet McTeer in Kaos (2024)
Netflix has decided against making another series of Kaos, its new show starring Jeff Goldblum. More on it being cancelled here.

Before she created Kaos, which was revently released on Netflix, Charlie Covell wrote several terrific shows including Truelove, a dark drama for Channel 4 with a brilliant ensemble cast including Lindsay Duncan and Clarke Peters, and The End Of The F***ing World, about a teenager who believes himself to be a psychopath, which is now on Netflix and is well worth watching.

The synopsis for Kaos reads as follows:

Zeus (Jeff Goldblum) has long enjoyed his status as King of The Gods. Until he wakes up and discovers a wrinkle on his forehead. Neurosis sets in, setting him off on a dangerous, paranoid path. Kaos: Netflix Cancels Mythological Drama Starring Jeff Goldblum After One Season
Image
We had a feeling that this announcement was coming after star Aurora Perrineau shared and then deleted a cryptic social media post late last night, and Variety has now confirmed that Netflix has cancelled Kaos after a single season.

The black comedy drama, which stars Jeff Goldblum as the all-powerful King of the Gods, Zeus, only premiered on the streamer in late August. Though reviews were mostly positive (76% on Rotten Tomatoes), the 8-episode series arrived without much fanfare.

Though the show's viewership numbers were nothing special, they were far from disastrous.

Kaos appeared in Netflix’s top 10 charts for English-language series in each of its first four weeks on the streamer, topping out at No. 3 for the week of Sept. 2-8. It earned 14.9 million views (measured by total viewing time divided by running time) over those weeks.

Perrineau has since shared the following.

Can ‘Kaos’ Be Saved After Shock Netflix Cancellation? Fans React

Netflix viewers have descended into Kaos after it was announced that the well-received and deeply ambitious series was canceled after just one season. Written and created by The End of the F***ing World’s Charlie Covell, the eight-part comedy was released on the streaming platform in late August. The star-studded cast included Jeff Goldblum as Zeus (in a tracksuit), Janet McTeer as Queen Hera, Nabhaan Rizwan as their rebellious son Dionysus, Aurora Perrineau as Eurydice, Cliff Curtis as Poseidon, David Thewlis as Hades, Rakie Ayola as Persephone, Killian Scott as Orpheus, Debi Mazar as Medusa, Billie Piper as Cassandra, Stephen Dillane as Prometheus, Steven Dillane, and Fady Elsayed. Netflix cancels Kaos (and my confidence in the platform) after one season
Image
Tell me if you've heard this one before: barely a month after a new show premiered its first season on Netflix, the streamer has decided to unceremoniously cancel it and chuck it in the bin. In this case, the show is Kaos, a series about Greek mythology set in the modern day, with characters like Zeus (Jeff Goldblum) and Hera (Janet McTeer) lording over Greece while mere humans scramble to worship them. Or at least that's what the humans are supposed to do; Kaos is all about what happens when that system goes off the rails, thanks in no small part to an unhealthy dose of paranoia and broken promises from the gods in charge.

Variety reports that Netfix has decided not to renew Kaos for a second season. It debuted on the platform on August 29, which means this decision comes just over five weeks later. That's a pretty short...

The decision comes about six weeks after the dark comedy, based on Greek and Roman mythology and created by Charlie Covell (The End of the F***ing World), made its debut on the streamer. Kaos appeared in Netflix’s top 10 charts for English-language series in each of its first four weeks, topping out at No. 3 for the week of Sept. 2-8. It earned 14.9 million views (measured by total viewing time divided by running time) over those weeks, a middling number by the streamer’s standards.

In the United States, the show had 3.34 million views as of Sept. 8, according to Nielsen’s streaming ratings (viewing totals for subsequent weeks aren’t yet available).

Netflix continues to clean house as the streamer evaluates which shows they opt to continue making. Earlier, That 90s Show fell victim to cancellation. Now, according to Deadline, Netflix has decided not to renew the Jeff Goldblum high-concept series, Kaos. It had been confirmed by one of the show’s stars, Aurora Perrineau, in a now-deleted Instagram post.

In the deleted post, Perrineau said, “Well… this one hurts. I find explaining how I’m feeling to be really difficult, but I’ll try. When I started auditioning for this show, I knew it was special, mainly due to the fact that Charlie Covell’s scripts resonated with me in a way most things hadn’t. I knew all of these people, and I loved them all — every flaw, everything.”

She would conclude by saying, “Everyone was brilliant and uniquely themselves. Every performance surprised and excited me. I can’t believe...

15 Best Comedy TV Shows Of 2024
Image
The best comedy TV shows of 2024 are a combination of new gems and follow-up seasons of existing favorites. Most comedies embody a hyphenated genre, merging elements of drama, action, music, sport, and even documentary with humor. End-of-year awards like the Emmys have a category problem, leaving many viewers wondering, "Wait, that was a comedy?" or "Surely, that was too dark to be a comedy." While these blurred lines also make it harder to demarcate the genre, they mostly make comedies all the more enjoyable.

The best comedies can evoke amusement alongside fear, dismay, and shock, among other emotions. Among the best comedy TV shows of 2023, for instance, the debut of the inventive murder mystery comedy Poker Face and the impossible-to-define thriller comedy Beef, the farewell to the classic feel-good comedy Ted Lasso, and the continued excellence of comedy dramas like The Bear, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and The Great. 25 Best TV Shows About Greek Mythology
Image
Greek mythology shows have been popular across various genres for decades, with the epic myths and legends of the ancient civilization recreated for the small screen, or even simply inspiring new stories for the modern era. Greek mythology is regularly adapted for the small screen due to how poetic, tragic, and philosophical it can be. That has allowed it to be relatable for fans of everything from romantic stories to high drama to superhero tales. There are even some Greek mythology shows that hide their inspiration by the myths and legends of Ancient Greece so well most viewers have no idea they're based on millennia-old source material.

Whether it's epic heroes or the gods on Mount Olympus themselves, Greek mythology is notorious for how wild and unpredictable it can be, making it the perfect source material for thrilling TV shows. Even something as seemingly harmless as having an illegitimate child...

Does Killian Scott Really Sing As Orpheus In Kaos?
Image
In Kaos, Killian Scott plays Orpheus, the legendary musician from Greek mythology, which has prompted many viewers to wonder if the actor is really singing Orpheus' songs. Created by Charlie Covell (The End of the F***ing World), Kaos centers on the all-powerful Zeus (Jeff Goldblum), who fears there's a conspiracy to overthrow him. Three mortals are also tied to Kaos' prophecy, as well as the conspiracies the Greek gods wage against each other. With a literal pantheon of figures to choose from, Kaos' cast of characters includes many big-name mythic figures, but Orpheus stands out.

In Greek mythology, the poet and musician is most well-known for failing to rescue his lover, Eurydice, from the Underworld. Kaos' very first episode introduces viewers to Eurydice, or Riddy (Aurora Perrineau), and Killian Scott's Orpheus. After a mysterious woman tells Kaos' Eurydice she should leave Orpheus, her long-time partner, the not-so-in-love Riddy learns about Zeus' prophecy.

‘Kaos’ Creator Gives Season 2 Update For Netflix Greek Mythology Series: “Would Love To Do More”
Image
By the power of Jeff Goldblum, Kaos might just reign once again.

Although Netflix has yet to renew the series for Season 2, creator Charlie Covell (The End of the F***ing World) said the streaming platform has “been very supportive” of the show, which puts a contemporary spin on the classic tales of Greek mythology.

“I think anything is possible,” Covell told Cosmopolitan UK. “My dream was three seasons. I’ve got many ideas and a strong sense of what I’d want to do with it.”

They added about the potential for a sophomore season, “There’s definitely more. I also didn’t want to do an ending that was a total cliffhanger. I hope that it feels satisfying as a season one in its own right, and there’s always hope for the more. Because I really would love to do more and work with those actors and that team.

Kaos
Image
Streaming on: Netflix

Episodes viewed: 8 of 8

For those who want something a little more adult than Percy Jackson, but slightly less dark than American Gods, Kaos may be the modern mythological reimagining you’re looking for. It’s a darkly comedic, rambunctious family affair from creator Charlie Covell (The End Of The F**king World), whose irreverent take will have you falling for gods and mortals alike.

Jeff Goldblum is in his element as Zeus, the king of the gods, playing him as notoriously unstable and self-obsessed. It seems that all of his family have left him alone on Mount Olympus, with the exception of his wife, Hera (Janet McTeer), and his son, Dionysus (Nabhaan Rizwan). When an unknown group of mortals hijack Olympia’s offering to the gods with a literal pile of shit, Zeus is forced to face the fact that his family is falling apart, and people...

Here's Why Prometheus Kills [Spoilers] In Kaos Netflix
Image
Prometheus personally killed someone very close to him in Netflix's Kaos, but there was a notably good reason why he did that.

The newly released Netflix series takes a unique spin on Greek Mythology. Not only does the show take place in the modern day, but it is also set in an alternate future where the stories of Greek Mythology have yet to fully play out—–with a key example being that of Eurydice (Aurora Perrineau) and Orpheus (Killian Scott).

Narrating the tale is Stephen Dillane's Prometheus, who also happens to be the same one who sets things into motion to take down Zeus once and for all.

Kaos Season 2 Gets Promising Update From Creator
Image
The article contains spoilers for Kaos season 1.

Kaos season 2 gets an optimistic and detailed update from creator Charlie Covell. Consisting of eight episodes and debuting on Netflix in late August, Kaos has a dual focus. On one side, there's Zeus (Jeff Goldblum). He's paranoid, beginning to fear the end of his reign as he grows more vengeful towards humanity. It also centers on three humans who discover their connection to an ancient prophecy while battling the corrupt gods of classical mythology.

In an interview with Cosmopolitan UK, Covell was asked about the chances of Kaos season 2. The show creator, writer, and executive producer mentioned his hope that the first season could be satisfying in its own right. But he also revealed his hopes for the show's future and noted that Netflix has supported the fantasy series even though a season 2 renewal is not confirmed yet, quoting: "Not yet, but they've been very supportive of it.

Kaos, Netflix's hit dark comedy about modern-day Greek gods, has viewers wondering where the series was filmed and Kaos' cast of characters, led by Jeff Goldblum's Zeus, actually traveled to Greece to shoot the series on location. Kaos Season 1 Review — Jeff Goldblum Dazzles in a Stellar Performance!
Image
The mythological dark comedy Kaos is a new Netflix series that could have easily collapsed under the weight of its highly stylized showcase. The series might have even lost itself within its own snide and manipulative, soapy family drama while only dipping its toe in mortal waters with themes the gods would never bother with.

However, series creator Charlie Covell finds something deeply moving and human beneath all of that expressionistic imagery and performances that revel in morally ambiguous roles. Bursting with creativity and a cynical black wit, Kaos is an undeniably entertaining series and a showcase for its star, Jeff Goldblum.

Kaos TV Review
Image
Plot: Having long enjoyed his status as King of The Gods, Zeus’ reign has never been truly threatened. That is until he wakes up one morning and discovers a wrinkle on his forehead. Believing it to be the harbinger of an ancient prophecy which foretells his destruction, neurosis sets in: Zeus becomes convinced his fall is coming. As his paranoia takes hold, the God of Gods – seeing signs everywhere – starts to dangerously self-destruct. And he’s right to be worried. Zeus’ one time friend and now prisoner, Prometheus, is orchestrating a plan to bring him down. The plan involves three disparate humans, all of whom are totally unaware of their cosmic significance or the part they must play in saving the world. No pressure. (Some pressure).
