He was born Cillian Murphy (not to be confused with Cillian Murphy), so he had to pick an alternative stage name. He changed the C to K for an extra difference.
Studied English and Philosophy at the University College Dublin before moving to London to study at the Drama Centre.
His brother is Fine Gael politician Eoghan Murphy.
