Prime Video signs deal with Nordisk Film; invests in 18 local productions

The three-year deal will give streamers exclusive access to Nordisk Film titles

Amazon Prime Video has signed an exclusive multi-territory three-year deal with Scandinavian film studio Nordisk Film.

Starting next year, customers in the Nordic region will be able to stream Nordisk Film titles in addition to the streamer’s international slate.

Upcoming Nordisk Film releases include Billie August’s The Kiss from Denmark; Mikal Hovland’s Skomakergata and Bamse from Norway; and Christian Ryltenius’s animation The World’s Smallest Adventure from Sweden.

‘And Then We Danced’, ‘Aniara’ lead winners at Sweden’s 2020 Guldbagge awards

Levan Akin’s Cannes 2019 title And Then We Danced and Pella Kågerman and Hugo Lilja’s Toronto 2018 film Aniara led the winners at the 2020 Guldbagge Awards, held on January 20 in Stockholm, Sweden.

Both films picked up four awards each. And Then We Danced took best film, best actor for Levan Gelbakhiani, best screenplay for Akin, and best cinematography for Lisabi Fridell; while Aniara received best director, best actress for Emelie Garbers, best supporting actress for Bianca Cruzeiro, and best visual effects for Arild Andersson, Per Jonsson and Andreas Wicklund.

Stockholm-based Sf Studios is starting pre-sales in Cannes for Pelle No-Tail.

In a further sign of its international ambitions, Stockholm-based Sf Studios is starting pre-sales in Cannes for Pelle No-Tail, its first animated feature that will be dubbed into an English-language version in addition to its original Swedish.

Screen can exclusively reveal a first image from the film above.

Sf Studios is selling world rights, excluding Scandinavia, to the animated family feature based on the classic Swedish children’s novels by Gösta Knutsson.

Christian Ryltenius to direct the family feature, which will be released for Christmas 2019.

Sf Studios is starting production later this year on animated feature Pelle No-Tail.

Sf will handle local distribution as well as international sales.

Christian Ryltenius will direct, reuniting him with Sf Studios after previously collaborating on two box office hits, Bamse And the City of Thieves (2014) and Bamse And The Witches Daughter (2016).

The film is based on the popular stories by Gösta Knutsson (which were first published in 1939 and are still popular) about a good-hearted kitten and is scheduled for a Christmas 2019 theatrical release.

Swedish major Svensk Filmindustri is to acquire 90% of Tre Vänner, the Stockholm-based production outfit behind the smash hit Snabba Cash franchise.

As part of the deal, Tre Vänner managing director Jonas Fors will become CEO of Svensk from Oct 1, replacing Rasmus Ramstad.

The agreement unifies a film and TV conglomerate founded in 1919, with subsidiaries in Norway, Denmark, and Finland, and a production company set up in 1995 by three scriptwriters, with the aim to make films with a local and Nordic flavour as well as international potential.

Tre Vänner’s latest feature, Jens Jonsson thriller Livet De Luxe (Life Deluxe) concludes the Snabba cash (Easy Money) trilogy from author Jens Lapidus’ Stockholm Noir series. It opened last week at the top of the Swedish box office with 85,000 admissions over the weekend.

Swedish production powerhouse also planning autumn shoot for heist film Mastermind.

Swedish outfit Tre Vänner, producer of the hit Snabba Cash trilogy, will next shoot The Boy With The Golden Trousers, a family adventure movie based on the classic Swedish novel.

The story of a young boy who finds a pair of trousers with magical money-giving pockets, the film will start shooting in Sweden in early September with Ella Lemhagen (Patrik, Age 1.5) directing. It is a Swedish-Danish co-production with Cosmo Film.

In early October Tre Vänner will also start production on Mastermind, a heist film about a criminal about to pull off a big bank job with some of the best criminals in Sweden. The director and cast will be announced shortly.
