One Chicago Star’s Underrated Crime Thriller Enjoying Second Life After Finding New Streaming Home
Image
Five years ago, Monica Raymund departed One Chicago and headed to Starz's Hightown, which is enjoying new life on streaming. Created by Rebecca Cutter, the series centered on troubled federal agent Jackie Quiñones as she became part of a murder investigation that expanded to local organized crime and opioid epidemic.

Having garnered rave reviews from critics, with season 1 holding an 80% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, Hightown was only a modest performer in its ratings. Nonetheless, the strong reviews earned it season 2 and 3 renewals, with the latter serving as its final season.

However, just over a year after the show came to an end, ithas landed on Netflix as of July 23, and Hightown has already landed the No. 8 spot in Netflix's Top 10, per Tudum. Between July 27 and July 30, the series rose from the No. 9 to the No. 8 spot, having since gone back to the No. 9 spot.

You Need To Watch This Underrated 5-Year-Old Crime Drama Now That It’s Blowing Up On Streaming
Image
One of the best ways to pass the time is to get wrapped up in a tense, atmospheric crime drama TV show, and Hightown is the perfect choice. Hightown is a TV show that deserves a second chance on Netflix, as it was cut short too soon, despite its compelling story and strong ensemble cast led by Monica Raymund as Jackie Quiñones.

Now that the Starz series is streaming on Netflix, it's already becoming a hit for the streamer, scratching the same itch as some of viewers' favorite crime dramas. Hightown works because it's about much more than the narrative's central mystery, leaning into the ups and downs of Jackie's personal issues and her struggles with addiction.

5 Years Later, Hightown Is Still a Step Above Most Crime Dramas Hightown Is More Than A Run Of The Mill Crime Show

Netflix's New 'Reacher' Replacement Became an Instant Streaming Hit in America
Image
Less than 48 hours after debuting on a new streaming home, this Monica Raymund-led crime drama immediately found success, ranking among the top titles. From Starz to Netflix, Hightown is one of those shows that just can’t be missed thanks to its electric storyline. The series follows Raymund’s character, Jackie Quiñones, a National Marine Fisheries Service Agent in Provincetown, Massachusetts, who suffers from addiction and obsessive behavior. She finds her life turned upside down when she’s pulled into criminal investigations in her community, clashing with a disgraced narcotics sergeant as both struggle with mounting personal and professional turmoil.

About a year after Hightown was unexpectedly removed from Starz, it found a home on Netflix, where it debuted all three seasons on July 23. Now two days later, FlixPatrol reports that the series is #5 on Netflix in the U.S., a spot it has held since yesterday. Other titles...

Hightown Netflix Series: Cast, Seasons, Plot
Image
In Hightown, nothing is as it seems. That’s certainly true for hard-partying National Marine Fisheries Service agent Jackie Quiñones (Monica Raymund) when, after a wild night out, she discovers the body of a young woman washed up on the beach. As an investigation ensues, Rhode Island state troopers link the case to a string of opioid-related crimes, and Jackie finds her small-town Providence life upended — all while struggling with her own addictions and a murky past that refuses to remain hidden.

Hightown was created by Rebecca Perry Cutter, whose latest show, The Hunting Wives, recently debuted on Netflix’s Top 10. The series stars Monica Raymund in her first role post–Chicago Fire, in which she played the beloved Gabby Dawson. She’s joined by Luis Guzmán, who plays a next-level psycho on par with his Narcoscharacter Gacha.

Netflix Revives 80% Rated Crime Drama That You Can Binge After Eric Bana’s Untamed

FandomWire’s Untamed review places Eric Bana’s wilderness thriller as a must-watch on Netflix. If crime thrillers like this chart-topping series are your go-to, we’ve got some good news for you. Netflix just dropped three whole seasons of Hightown, a critically acclaimed crime show that originally aired on Starz (via The Mirror).

With multiple episodes packed with similar mystery-fueled, gritty themes as Untamed, Hightown is being touted as the perfect follow-up to the latest crime drama. The shows share a central theme of troubled protagonists navigating complex investigations.

While Bana’s Kyle Turner stumbles upon a dead body as a National Park Service Isb Agent, Hightown follows Jackie Quiñones, where she discovers a dead body as a National Marine Fisheries Service Agent. ‘Dexter: Resurrection’ Opens to Solid Ratings, Building on ‘Original Sin’ Prequel
Image
The Dexter franchise continues to deliver audiences for Showtime and Paramount+.

The latest iteration of the saga, Dexter: Resurrection, brought in 3.1 million cross-platform viewers over the show’s opening weekend from July 11-13. The series follows the title character (Michael C. Hall) — who, as it turns out, did not die in the finale of Dexter: New Blood, hence the Resurrection part of the new show’s title — to New York City.

The 3.1 million cross-platform viewers (calculated by dividing total viewing time worldwide by run time, what most of the rest of the industry calls views rather than viewers) is a considerable improvement on the premiere of the most recent Dexter series, the prequel Original Sin, in December 2024. Original Sin premiered to about 2.1 million viewers over its first three days.

As is usually the case with premium cable shows, the vast majority of Dexter: Resurrection’s audience came via streaming. Same-day...

Chicago Fire star's canceled Starz show finally finds home at Netflix
Image
Chicago Fire might not be coming back with new episodes until this fall, but Netflix is about to serve up the perfect show to help pass the time as we wait for season 14!

In announcing its July slate, Netflix has confirmed it will soon be adding all three seasons of Hightown. The complete series will be coming to Netflix on July 23, giving fans the chance to enjoy all 25 episodes of the Starz original series starring former Chicago Fire star Monica Raymund.

The dark crime drama followed Jackie Quiñones (Raymund) on her journey to sobriety as she becomes entangled in a murder investigation set against the backdrop of Cape Cod. The series debuted on Starz in May 2020, and wrapped with its third season in March 2024 amid a wave of cancellations at Starz.

Adding insult to injury, shortly after the show’s series finale, Starz pulled the show from its streaming platform.

July Will Be a Fantastic Month for Fans of Starz’s Critically Acclaimed Crime Drama
Image
2020 will always be that year for fans of this acclaimed Starz drama that has unfortunately been unavailable on streaming for a while. Debuting on the network on May 17, 2020, Hightown concluded its three-season run on March 8, 2024, and has failed to appear on any subscription service ever since it was abruptly removed from Starz. That’s about to change, as What's on Netflix reports that the crime series has now found a new streaming home on Netflix, where it will be available to watch in the U.S. starting next month.

On Wednesday, July 23, Netflix will add seasons of Hightown, which stars Monica Raymund as Jackie Quiñones, a National Marine Fisheries Service Agent in Provincetown, Massachusetts, who is the primary focus of the series. The character, who suffers from alcoholism, drug addiction, and obsessive behavior, finds her life upended when she’s pulled into criminal investigations in her beach community, clashing with...

Hightown finally gets second life on Netflix this summer after Starz removal
Image
If you’re missing Hightown on Starz, there’s excellent news for where you can now find the underrated crime drama!

One of the biggest annoyances of streaming channels is the tendency they have to remove shows, often with little to no warning. It’s complex due to rights issues, licensing fees, and other factors, which is why places from Netflix to Tubi can often have shows vanish and later return or move to another streamer.

It’s easy to think that a show made for a specific channel would always stay on that channel/streamer. That’s not the case, as some streamers and cable channels have taken to dropping shows so they won’t have to pay off licensing rights. That means channels like HBO Max or Disney+ can drop several of their original series and leave them in limbo for watchers.

Such a case has been Starz.

'Hightown' Creator's New Show Finds a New Home After Leaving Starz
Image
After Hightown ended abruptly on Starz, its creator, Rebecca Cutter, was set to continue her relationship with the network with a new show, The Hunting Wives. It has been in development since 2023, but after production wrapped up, there was no news. Deadline reports that The Hunting Wives is now moving from Starz to Netflix and will premiere in the US on July 21. The decision was informed by Starz's ongoing decoupling process from Lionsgate Television, with whom they had partnered as their production studio. Starz has been on a quest to become profitable, like many other networks, and part of that process includes creating its own shows instead of licensing them from a production company. Lionsgate Television believed that The Hunting Wives would run longer if it were on another streaming platform, contrary to what Starz had initially planned.

Netflix has acquired a one-year license for the US, with Lionsgate TV...

Michael C. Hall in Dexter: Resurrection (2025)
Star-Studded Serial-Killer Circle Haunts Trailer for Dexter: Resurrection
Michael C. Hall in Dexter: Resurrection (2025)
Paramount+ has fixed 11 July 2025 for the two-episode launch of Dexter: Resurrection, dropping a trailer that opens with Michael C. Hall’s anti-hero jolting awake in a Miami hospital and ends with him boarding a bus to New York City. The streamer will pair the digital debut with a linear rollout on Showtime two days later, then release eight weekly installments through early September.

Set weeks after Harrison shot his father in Dexter: New Blood, the revival finds a guilt-stricken Dexter tracking the runaway teenager while Miami Metro veteran Angel Batista closes in on proof that the Bay Harbor Butcher never died. Showrunner Clyde Phillips told fans during a March Reddit Ama that Hall himself pushed hardest for the comeback, arguing the original character arc “never reconciled father and son.” Phillips added that the writers’ room built season one to stand alone yet “left doors open” for additional chapters.

Michael C. Hall in Dexter (2006)
Dexter: Resurrection gets a premiere date and a trailer!
Michael C. Hall in Dexter (2006)
For eight seasons and 96 episodes, from 2006 to 2013, the series Dexter ran on Showtime, telling the story of Dexter Morgan, a blood spatter analyst for the Miami Metro Police Department who is also a vigilante serial killer. Clyde Phillips was showrunner on Dexter for the first four seasons, and in 2021 he and Showtime brought us the revival series Dexter: New Blood… which, for a time, also seemed to be the end of it all. But that’s not the case. Showtime has tasked Phillips with continue to build up the Dexter franchise, with the prequel series Dexter: Original Sin premiering back in December and a New Blood follow-up called Dexter: Resurrection, which heard was heading for a June premiere date. It’s actually going to miss June by a handful of days, as Showtime has revealed (and trades like The Hollywood Reporter have confirmed) that Dexter: Resurrection is going to premiere with two episodes on Friday,...

Chicago Fire Won’t Be the Same Without Darren Ritter – And That’s a Disservice to Fans
Image
Chicago Fire is tightening its belt ahead of Season 14, and in the process, it’s cutting loose Darren Ritter. For longtime fans, that’s not just disappointing — it feels like a gut punch.

Ritter, played by Daniel Kyri, made his first appearance back on Chicago Fire Season 7 Episode 2, and from the jump, he brought a fresh energy to Firehouse 51.

The production team’s decision to bring him in when they did was smart, especially as the show was adjusting to Gabby Dawson’s (Monica Raymund) departure to pursue community work in Puerto Rico.

(Peter Gordon/NBC)

But now, after seven seasons of growth, camaraderie, and heart, Ritter’s run is ending — and fans weren’t even given the courtesy of a proper send-off.

Stellaride's adoption was almost derailed by this forgotten Chicago Fire storyline
Image
Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) and Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) have been together for a long time, and they are finally taking the next step in their lives as a couple. They are going to adopt a newborn as their own. This emotional season 13 arc would not have been possible, however, if a forgotten arc during the show's first and second seasons had gone a bit differently.

Severide has had several romances over the course of Chicago Fire, so it can be hard to recall the details of all of them. Instead of building up to a place where Severide felt ready to become a dad, though, the series nearly dropped a child onto his lap during the season 1 episode "A Hell of a Ride."

Real Reason Why Hightown on Starz Won’t Return for Season 4
Image
Some shows just get done dirty, and Hightown is one of them. Starz pulled the plug after Season 3, and honestly, it stings. It was gritty, intense, and full of messy, real people trying to make sense of their lives, whether they were cops or criminals.

And let’s be real, the cast carried the hell out of every episode. But instead of letting it ride out with one last season, Starz hit us with the classic “this is the end” routine and called Season 3 a wrap. The problem? That finale wasn’t an ending, it was a setup. A juicy one. So if you’re sitting there wondering why Hightown won’t be back for Season 4, you’re not alone. Let’s break down what happened and why...

Walker left as a series regular, occasionally popping in to reprise his beloved role as Chief Boden, whose shoes were filled by Dermott Mulroney’s Chief Dom Pascal. In contrast, Sardarov was written out of the show permanently, his character dying during the shocking Season 8 premiere after fighting wounds from the Season 7 finale's mattress factory fire plotline. "Thank you for the greatest 7 years of my life... #ChicagoFireForever," Sardarov captioned a Sept. 26, 2019, Instagram...
